Summary: Best Movie Ever Made
Review: Anyone who can appreciate a movie for aspects like casting & mise-en-scene will love this one. I first saw this when I was 27 and at the time HATED black & white flicks just b/c of their lack of color. I couldn't relate to the time it was filmed at all. And now four yrs. later this is my all time favorite movie ever just because of the themes addressed. Rent this one and you won't be sorry.

Review: Start your classic movie collection with Casablanca. All the amenities of laserdisc and no side breaks! To the reviewer from Berkeley, this film has no widescreen version because it's original aspect ratio is 4:3, the same as a TV. Thus, the film is not a pan and scan.

Summary: A note on the format.
Review: This is just a quick message to point out that "Casablanca" was released in 1942, about a decade or so before the first widescreen films were produced. CinemaScope, I believe, was the first. Their are more in-depth articles in the past few issues of Widescreen Review that detail the first widescreen films and their release dates.This DVD version of "Casablanca", is not Pan and Scan but simply presented in 1.33:1, the way it was originally filmed. "Gone with the Wind" is another example of a classic film recently released on DVD in its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio.

Summary: A great version of a classic
Review: If you love the movie, BUY this disc. It's well worth it. The video is outstanding and the audio sounds crisp! The supplements are pretty good too. This is the best version out there of this timeless classic. To the reviewer that wrote that this movie is in the pan & scan format: You're wrong! Movies were not filmed in a widescreen format back in the '40s. This DVD preserves the proper aspect ratio. "Widescreen" movies didn't appear until much later.

Summary: Great film, bad format
Review: There should be no doubt in any one's mind that Casablanca is one of the best three films ever made. So owning this DVD should be a no brainer - a must-have in any collection. I am disappointed though in the screen format of this edition. It is the o' pan & scan that I am trying to get away from. There is nothing new in this DVD; it seems to be an exact copy of the anniversary VHS tape. I would really like to see this film in the wide screen format.

Summary: One of the great films!
Review: What can I say that hasn't been said before? A masterpiece that arose from chaos and confusion. Perhaps the best total cast of any film ever made! The DVD is so good one can see that many of Bergman's scenes were shot in soft focus to make her more beautiful - as if she needed that! I was more affected by the film watching it on DVD than at any other time - and when they start playng the Marseilles at Rick's Cafe - WOW!! A great documentary comes with it along with other trailers for other Bogart films.

Review: Better then a soap opera triangle is the love story of the ill fated lovers, Ilsa and Rick. I can't help but cry when Paul Henried leads the band in La Marsaiselles. Anyone who can keep a dry eye at this old love/war weepie is nuts.

Summary: Never Miss Seeing "Casablanca"!
Review: Said to be the most quoted movie of all-time, it is a love triangle that is too right to be wrong. Bogart is the cool Rick, and Bergman is the love of his life. The scenes showing their past in Paris add to the romance of the film, and how these two fell in love in such a short amount of time. You'll recognize much of the diaglogue as well. Perfect film for a man or a woman; there are trials of love and a war story to tie it all together. Also perfect if you are a "When Harry Met Sally" fan too. A must-see for anyone wanting to see THE greatest film of the twentieth century.
