Review: The negative reviews here are symptoms of the age: Value as measured by the capacity to entertain, or more broadly, value as measured by utility. But Citizen Kane is not about entertainment or utility; it's about art, a profound exploration of the human condition. The negative reviews say everything about the reviewers and nothing about Citizen Kane; namely, they're a testament to their poor taste and overall flawed aesthetic judgment. It's funny that they think that they're being somehow revolutionary with these reviews when in fact they merely reveal their own common, plebian tastes. Notice the movies one of the negative reviewers lists: The Godfather, Schindler's List, Memento, Psycho, It's a Wonderful Life - all classics save one - the common denominator being that they all contain either loud crashes, loud blasts, screaming, speed, physical assaults etc. etc. This is totally consistent with the modern pop-sensibility which has no taste for anything quiet, though it's precisely in the softest whispers of our lives where the deepest profundity is found. Such a person, of course, would have no use for such quiet, slow moving classics as Persona, Wild Strawberries, The Seventh Seal, or Elvira Madigan - but would certainly consider the nihilistic likes of Kill Bill to be an instant masterpiece. (Quentin Tarantino: The most overrated director around. Nothing but a cheap, pandering nihilist. A friend of mine recently asserted that Pulp Fiction is the most important film of the '90s. This is true only as far as Pulp Fiction serves as a diagnostic tool for the physician of culture: It says everything about the 90s and little about the actual merits of Pulp Fiction). Summary: You don't understand, it really IS the best film ever made.
Review: People say it's an OK movie with a good plot and good acting, but its hardly the best ever made. Thats because all of the lighting and camera angles and other "risks" of the time were put to use in Citizen Kane. No other movive has broken so many standards in a single attempt. So do yourself a favor and put away the Matrix and Hollywood Homicide and treat yourself to some real cinema.

Review: A profound movie that will entertain you. There is not one dull moment, every family,man or women should watch this movie! there is allways that anigma that plays with your mind, wich intern makes it a masterpiece.

Review: I have had the displeasure of seeing this movie twice. It had no story, the acting was bad and it did not hold the viewer's attention in any way. The only people i recommend it to are insomniacs becuase this one's gonna put you to sleep quick. the ending is downright stupid, rosebud ooh a sled..oh no i ruined the ending..well i dont care, i did you all a favor by sparing you the agony of having to watch this piece of cinema filth.

Summary: TERRIBLE MOVIE
Review: Citizen Kane was a real disappointment. Totally unoriginal plot, bad lighting, cheesy sets. Boring too. And gosh, what is with that Rose Bud thing? That was freaky!!! Woah dude!!! Anyway this movie was whack & mad boring cause you don't even see the dude porkin' the girl, and she isn't even really hot anyway. It was a bummer too that it was in black and white and all the guys looked the same cause they all wore suits. The music was all weird and whack, yo. I didn't like it. It didn't have a good beat or dance rhythm section. But it was mad sweet, the dude's crib, but he just be pacing around like, whassup? I thought to my self how could u be so rich & be so messed up, yo?

Summary: Simply Remarkable!
Review: This is simply the greatest film of all time. A true original.
While it is true that some lighting techniques that are employed are dated and worn, you wouldn't have to go far (for instance the blockbuster Harry Potter films) to see that these techniques are still used OVER SIXTY YEARS LATER. The cast (especially Orson Welles) brilliantly portray very realistic feeling characters. The camera was used to enhance the story's changing moods and directions, but Orson Welles never gets caught up on making the picture so spectacular as to overshadow the plot. Through each and every scene the story becomes more involving, building a suspense that climaxes with the final shot.
This is the way movies should be done. So many movies in the past half century have tried to imitate the simple brilliance of Citizen Kane but have fallen short.

Summary: A groundbreaking movie
Review: There are two remarkable things about this movie: 1) Orson Wells was only in his mid-20s when he wrote, directed, and starred in the film, and 2) it used revolutionary filming techniques--non-chronological sequencing, special lighting effects incorporating shadow and darkness, unique camera perspectives from above and below--that have become a staple of the film industry. Clearly, hundreds of movies to follow were influenced by the new and daring strategies used by Wells; this special edition includes commentary from Hollywood insiders describing the exact extent of the impact the movie has made. That being said, however, what was once groundbreaking has lost some of its mystique given that so many modern films have surpassed the techniques used here--should Memento be considered one of the best movies of all time too? Yes, the story is engaging, the mystery intriguing, and the character of Charles Foster Kane compelling; combined with the filming methods, these characteristics truly make Citzen Kane a great movie. But although I would rank this film as one of the best ever made, I don't agree with bestowing on it the number one slot.

Summary: Get rid of the word "arguably"
Review: It seems that every review of this film calls it "arguably the best film of all time." Get rid of the first word and you have it right. Ironically, for all the emphasis on Welles' cinematic breakthroughs here, Kane is Welles' most accessible film - it should have been a populist hit - but was suppressed by William Randolph Hearst. Welles and company are young and appear to be having lots of fun with this. The DVD has exceptional extras as befits a film of this caliber.

Summary: Great Film, But Sad Outcome To The Story
Review: Obviously this film is a classic, so I don't expound upon that aspect. However, the plot itself was dismaying, it really left you in a down mood. The ruination of this man Kane over a "love nest" was absolutely unnecessary. Everybody does such things. It didn't really rise to the level of ending his career. It wasn't affecting his job performance at all, it was a private matter between him and his family. It was inflamed in the public's thinking by a lot of lies and hate talk, the politics of personal destruction, a vast conspiracy. They should have simply turned the page and moved on, since the affair rapidly became old news. Fortunately, our real-world society has advanced immeasurably since the days when this movie was made, and about half of us (per a poll November 2000) have no problems whatever with the sort of behavior exhibited by Mr. Kane, or even worse.

Summary: Best American Movie EVER
Review: Anyone who has told you that this movie is bad, is full of it. It is undoubtedly one of the greatest movies you will ever see. It is so good, that I would recommend buying it even if you haven't seen it, the extras are so good you will get atleast 10 hours of entertainment out of it.
