Summary: How could you not like this?
Review: This is a revolutionary film! It is about corruption, love, disillusionment, mystery... and some things you just can't repeat, like never seeing the face of the reporter, or everything doing with Rosebud. My friends don't understand how I could like something not in color, or full of violence or white-hot stars. Well, this is a rich cinematic experience one can never forget.

Summary: The classic example of extraordinary American cinema.
Review: This film is timeless and one that all students of cinema should study. The first time the film is viewed, it makes an impact. The second time, one realizes that one missed a variety of key elements in the film. On third viewing, the film hits you - you realize all that it says and doesn't say. Moreover, the knowledge of what Welles went through to produce and, eventually, screen the film, is astounding and hard to believe for today's film student. This is a movie that can be watched repeatedly and each time, something different is seen and, more importantly at times, felt. Don't miss an opportunity to see "Citizen Kane" on the "big" screen, if you ever have the chance. It's a knockout.

Summary: Superb
Review: Live in this age, we may probably judge a film in a very different way, but to compare this film with Star Wars Series or Titanic or Saving Private Ryan, I can say only one thing: don't compare an art work to those commercial flyers. Those big hits, are just made for earning the viewer's money and tears, but I don't care what the heck they really are, cause Hollywood (Hollybooo) producers can only make worse than Citizen Kane. They have no standard of ciematogphy, and directing (some director I didn't include: Francis Ford Coppola, Tim Robins, Spike Lee, Clint Eastwood, Robert Alterman, and ....). This movie may not be the best of the American Film History, but it must be top ten. Let's see how many trashes the 100 great movies have. Star War Series? Jaws?? Rocky??? King Kong???? Oh! geez! should I name more? If a film is worthy because of its visual effects, then the film artists should all face the Pacific and finish themselve with sorrow. And I will also feel embarrassed to who may think deep impact, godzilla, or scream are better than Citizn Kane. This film is about a man who had very huge ideal to fight dark side of the society (govornment, capitalists). But that was not the thing he was able to do. He lost himself as he became famous, and powerful, he lost his friend Jed, and his wives. He needed to be loved by someone because his lacks of childhood and love from parents. That was why he looked for rosebud (the snowboard). It reminded him so much about where he used to live. So when we saw the guardian gave him a new snowboard as X'mas gift, he wasn't happy at all. Also his selfish really cause his lonely, because in his outcore, people saw his generosity, but the inner core was just so difficult for people to tolerate. So He said that, if he wasn't that rich, he might be a better person. That should be, because money and power degenerate someone. This is absolute an American Classic, Master Welles directed so marvelous, and the cinematography and Make up were just so brilliant. I really recommand this to artistic film lover, not to people who lower the standard of cinema.

Summary: BLAH BLAH BLAH
Review: I felt that this movie deserved less than a star, but I couldn't put any fewer than one. I felt this because the movie was quite long and very uninteresting. It had no color and was uterly depressing. The camera angles were ok, but the acting really wasn't too good. All the acters were always interupting themselves or each other and it just didn't flow very well in my mind.

Summary: You'll have to know to much about movies to say's the best
Review: Citicen Kane is not the best movie I've ever seen but we have to take under consideration in our times a long black and white movie do not impresses. For the times that Welles did it, it was a bomb and the little study I have about cinematographic techniques for that time this movie was just consider too much. Also considering Welles age at the time (25) was impressing. In my opinion it is not the best movie I've seen but considering time it shows how people at that time, in this case Welles, struggle to demonstrate through their movies something new and out of the rutine not like now it is more of the same.

Summary: Pure Hype!
Review: I couldn't wait to get this movie, really thought I'd been missing something for years. Then I saw it, didn't get it, didn't like it, but forced my way through the entire movie. Maybe you intellectual, artsy types go for this, but give me Star Wars any day!

Summary: Well worth a look
Review: This film is a remarkable achievement for a 26-year old Welles who had never picked up a camera before. The cinematography is gorgeous, and the plot weaves itself masterfully in a manner that is rare for something not based on any novel. Seldomly do we see such a film that doesn't insult our intelligence, or one that looks so cinematically beautiful.

Summary: Masterpiece
Review: Well, I've been reading some reviews of some people who wrote down here and I wonder, how can they say that Citizen Kane is bad, well I guess they don't know nothing about movies, Citizen Kane is a masterpiece and that is so clear as 1 plus 1 is 2.

Summary: The best film EVER?! Oh, please . . .
Review: This was one of the most boring classic films I've ever seen. Is the American Film Institute really saying that "Citizen Kane" was a better film than "Casablanca"? When I first saw "Casablanca", I was riveted to the screen at the end. By the end of "Citizen Kane", I didn't care who or what Rosebud was. I'm sure that fans of "The Godfather" and "Gone With The Wind" are just as bewildered by this choice as I am.

Summary: Film as an art form.
Review: Being a very cynical 18 year old back in the late 70s I had always thougt of a movie as nothing more than a place to take a date. A good film to me was lots of car chases and explosions. A great film was one with all of the the above aspects and sex... That is of coarse until I saw "Citizen Kane" for the first time. A girlfriend dragged me out to the university theater to see it in spite of a great deal of protest (black & white? are you nuts!!).

But, from just about the first frame I was engrossed. Wells did an amazing job of creating 3 dimentional characters. Interesting people that you loved or hated (including the main character). Kane himself, I liked, then hated, then felt pity for. Wells use of time sequences, aging the characters, the use of light and shadow, inovative camera angles were spectacular. Very unconventional stuff for a mainstream movie studio of that time. I am sure he drove the suits nuts... I sat there not beliveing that this film was made 4 decades before. The guy was a real rebel for his time. Truly this film is the yardstick that everyone should measure all serious films by.

It is the first time I ever thought of a film as a work of art. I have never looked at movies quite the same way since. Get it on video (it is a must). However if you ever get a chance to see it on the big screen it is well worth the price of a ticket.
