Rating: Summary: IT WAS MOST EMOTIONAL AND PWERFUL MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN Review: A FEW OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN REVIEWING THIS FILM ARE IGNORANT MORONS. IT WAS A WONDERFUL MOVIE. I WOULD SAY IT IS NOT A MOVIE TO ENJOY, BUT A MOVIE TO HELP PEOPLE REALIZE THE HORRORS AND TRAGIC EVENTS THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIVED DURING THE HOLOCAUST. iT SHOULD BE SHOWN IN SCHHOLS ACROSS THE WORLD. MANY CHILDREN I KNOW DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE HOLOCAUST IS. wE MUCH TEACH OUR CHILDREN SO THIS HORRIBLE EVNET IS NOT FORGATTON
Rating: Summary: Where are the Sub-Titles? Review: The answer is you don't need them becoue everyone speaks English. I was reminded of a movie I once saw in which Japanese speaking cowboys fought Japanese speaking Native Americans! But this was even worse. Good Guy Nazi Liem Neeson speaks English with a phony American accent while Bad Guy Nazi Ralph Fiennes speaks English with a phony German accent. It couldn't have been any more blatant if they had white hats and black hats. What upsets me is that these are great actors under the direction of a great director depicting actual events which should be shown with the utmost realism. What we have is Neil Armstrong stepping out onto the lunar surface and saying, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." But the words coming out of his mouth are Russian.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies I have EVER watched. Review: Schindlers List is an excellent movie that protrays many elements of the Holocaust in a truthful light. This is Spielberg's best movie.
Rating: Summary: Lest we forget... Review: Thought provoking and heart rending and much deserving of the Best Picture Academy award. Its also a film I could only watch through once, so real was its depiction of death and the cheapness of life in those horrible conditions and during that terrible time. The grainy b/w film with splashes of red also made a visual impact that was unexpected.Let us not forget and... ...No sequels ...please.
Rating: Summary: Easily the Greatest Movie of the Nineties Review: I think much of this film's favor can be attributed to its empathy and sentimentality, or even for its epic feel. But looking past Janus Kaminski's great cinematography, and looking psat the great performances, we are left with two things that all great movies are built on: great direction and a magnificent screenplay. Steven Spielberg has never made another film like this, and it's unlikely that he ever will again. The way he uses the camera so expressively is reminiscent of Welles and Cocteau; certainly this movie borrowed from Citizen Kane. The screenplay is both subtle and sublime, beginning with a great character and following the change in him. The three leads also deserve kudos for their staggering performances. Easily the best movie of the 90's, followed distantly by Demme's Silence of the Lambs.
Rating: Summary: A truly great film Review: Steven Spielberg brings the holocaust to life withbone-chilling reality as he tells the true story of Oskar Schindler, aNazi war profiteer. With the help of a Jewish prisoner, Izhak Stern, he builds a factory and employs 1100 Jews, thereby saving their lives. The only thing that I really wondered about (and this goes for many people) is "did Schindler know he would save their lives?" this is a question that will probably never be answered. I don't know why I like this film. It's not entertaining and wasn't meant to be. Maybe it's my Jewish heritage. Maybe it's my obsession with Spielberg and movies in general. Maybe it's the spectacular acting done by Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsle and Ralph Fiennes. Whatever it may be, this film is a truly disturbing and memorable one with one simple message (and I say this from the bottom of my Jewish heart) DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN!
Rating: Summary: Great!!! Review: This is the sadest movie you can see, BUT IS THE GREAT!!!! DONTMISS IT
Rating: Summary: one of the most horrible beautiful movies of all time Review: I know I am only fifteen, but for a long time I have been facinated with the holocauste because of the little attention given to it in my school. I found that watching just this one movie has given me a higher awareness of the Holocauste then any book could have because it made visual all the words I read. If it takes a movie by Steven Spielburg to spread awareness of such an important tragic event in history to us "ignorant" americans the more power to it. I think this movie should be shown in every school classroom in America, and be owned by every household so we can not forget the tragic events that happened during World War II. Or those who lost all because of them.
Rating: Summary: terrific, moving, a masterpiece Review: This film brilliantly captures the plight of the Jews persucuted in the holocaust. The entire plight can be seen in the plight of a young girl in a red dress, witnessed by schindler. This does not descecrate the memory of horrors that the Jewish people suffered, it honors them, and tells their story to the world.
Rating: Summary: Great Film Review: I have to admit, I wasnt't really interested in seeing this film at all. But I kept hearing, "Oh-Schindler's-List-this" and "Schindler's-List-that", and Liam Neeson is a personal fave of mine, so I decided to take the plunge and watch it. What I found was not a comedy, like Mr. April 9th expected, nor a completely harrowing, totally heavy-handed feature like Mr. July 12th in D.C. claimed to have seen. What I saw was the story of a man who at first did what he did for the money, then he did it for humanity. By no means perfect, but more so willing to do something than anyone else in his position would've been. It was definitely dark and somber, injected with the tiniest bit of light, which gave the film balance. I was not disappointed, except for the first half, because it moved a tad too slow. Otherwise, I was engrossed in every minute of the movie. I also disagree with Mr. July 12th on another point: that Schindler's motives and inner workings should have been revealed. I think that part of what makes the movie great is that Schindler remains so enigmatic, and his reasons are never truly revealed. Spielberg did a great job on this film. My condolences to the families of the victims of the Holocaust...
