Summary: Great Series - Good History
Review: If you want the whole story of Easy Company read the official unit histories, but if you want an emotional and pretty accurate telling of that unit's experience from training in 1943 until it's last action at the end of the war this is great storytelling.It has the look and feel of "Saving Private Ryan" for obvious reasons (i.e. Hanks/Speilberg). At times it has an almost documentary feel to it and I think that helped the series a lot. The uniforms, weapons and gear are all pretty accurate. There were a few things pictured in the movie that simply never happened or never would have happened (i.e. all of the guys huddled around the jeep singing songs after they take the town of of Foy - - I read an interview with Carwood Lipton (the Donnie Walberg character - - sadly he passed away shortly after the series was released) and he said it was the most glaringly inaccurate scene in the series), but the serious on the whole "gets it right" far more often that not. Even the casting was well done - - the actors all resemble the actual guys they portray circa 1943-45. The history here is the real drama -- there's no need for phono BS Hollywood add-ons . . . the story of these men and what they did is incredible enough. Stephen Ambrose borrowed heavily from some earlier works that detailed this unit's history and it's combat record in the war when he wrote the book and the surviving members of Easy Company held him to a pretty high standard as far as getting the story right so the history is all there. The series is a pretty good condensation of the book as well - - probably about as good a job as anybody could have done in turning a book into a mini-series. There were lots of combat units that endured the same sorts of hardships and made the same sacrafices as these men, but the story of the 101st Airborne, 506th PIR, 2d Battallion, Easy Company is a great microcosm of the whole story of the war on the Western front in Europe. Truly a great series worthy of all the acclaim in received.

Summary: Entertaining, but not great.
Review: Another World War 2 show by Speilberg; adventure, heroic acts, everyones excited! You quickly rush home with your new Box Set. Happy as a little clam, you slide the first dvd into your player. 10 minutes later you feel about as excited as a kid with a melting ice cream cone.
Why you ask? Well there he is in all his glory, "Ross" from Friends, playing the part of a mean army officer. OK you think, I can watch a movie that suffers from bad casting, heck I made it through Titanic 5 times with my girlfriend. You carry on happily eating your popcorn. First ground battle happens, Americans get ready to ambush a small convoy of Germans (your shaking in your seat with excitement) The guns start going off, all the Germans start running around bumping into one another screaming like school girls, the Americans prove there military strength once again {yawn}. This is a good series if you want another GI Joe America type of flick. Considering how long it is more angles should have been covered. Heck why not go out on a limb and follow a German character defending his homeland from the grip of Communism on the eastern front, or at the very least another group of allied soldiers. Of course this would be unheard of, why display a more detailed look at the war that could be enjoyed by intellegent people, when you can just follow the same characters for ten episodes.
The Veterans comments are interesting, and despite poor casting and Americans are the burning core of the center of the universe storyline, it does have its moments. Ill stick with Sopranos.

Summary: The best ever
Review: Im just facinated with WWII. I have seen almost all the movies made including the early black and white films such as "The Longest Day" and up to "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Thin Red Line" I never thought anything as good as "Private Ryan" would ever be created untill Spielberg got back to his wounderful doing, and created this. Band of Brothers is the best film, mini series, whatever you want to call it, to ever be created. Its a whole look at the major campaigns in the European war. You feel the soldiers, and the war, and it makes you ahh yet truely proud.

Summary: Band of Brothers
Review: I loved this piece of art. It is truly a masterpiece. The actors that played these real life heros did an excellent job of showing the hardships that the Easy Company had. You can tell that they were a unit as actors. They wanted to tell the story of the heros of WWII and they did so with such a vigor and intelligence. I loved this story and I felt for those men as one by one they lost someone close to them or they themselves were lost.

Summary: Greatest Movie Ever Made - Hands Down
Review: Every person with a tv and video player should see this. It is simply the best movie ever made (it's not a mini-series! Nothing "mini" about it!)and I don't even really get into war/history stuff. The cinematography, the acting, the plots of each episode, and what I see as very realistic illustration of battle and war, is just second to none. One of the more birlliant, yet subtle aproaches to the writing was how each episode comes from a different angle of the Company. It focuses on different elements that come into play throughout life as a soldier. Very crafty, but not overdone. Sometimes simplicity shines brighter than complexity. No one can do this movie justice by describing it, it is just so well done I don't know what else to say. Thanks to everyone involved in this. What a treasure.

Review: I read the book "Band of Brothers" written by Stephen Ambrose, concurrently with watching the dvd series,(which I rented one disc at a time). As soon as I am finished with this review, I am ordering the set. This is definitely a keeper! I enjoyed this mini-series more than any other, possibly more than "Saving Private Ryan". The series follows the book better than any two hour movie could possibly hope to, and the book was excellent. The attention to detail is oustanding. The actors are mostly unknowns,(with the exception of David Schwimmer, (Ross from "Friends"),who does a great job as the infamous hardass Capt. Sobel of the Toccoa boot camp days), and they perform admirably. If you are at all interested in WWII, YOU MUST SEE THIS.

Summary: Just Incredible!!!
Review: I knew right from the first episode that this was a collection I needed to own. The story is complete and detailed, leaving no stone unturned. The various episodes interspersed with actual recollections from survivors really brought the whole experience to life. The care with which this mini-series was filmed is unbelievable. It is something everyone should see to gain a true understanding of just what previous generations went through for our continued freedom. Incredible and chilling at the same time. Watch it, Love it, Buy it!!

Review: this is probably the best screen presentation of g.i.s in world war two ever made. the authenticity of the equipment, the uniforms and the fact that the actors actually sounded and acted like my father and uncles ( all veterans of ww II ) truly made this the best. the book itself is wonderful and perfectly represented in this series. we all owe steven ambrose a great deal of thanks for insisting they " get it right", and of course we owe the men who sacrificed so much to save us. the debt we owe them can never be repaid, ever!

Summary: Absolutely breathtaking
Review: I must say, I have NEVER been as inspired and in awe of any WWII movie or story. Not just WWII, any war movie. It blows "Saving Private Ryan" right out of the water. I bought the book after watching the DVDs, and I read it completely in 2 days. After reading the book, I'm watching it again....and this is all since I received the DVD set for Christmas. You will be amazed at the massive undertaking which allowed for this great miniseries to be produced. You will also enjoy the additional features of the DVD set, which includes interviews, behind the scenes footage, a great training video journal from Ron Livingston, who played Nixon in the film. I HIGHLY recommend this set - too bad 5 stars is as high as it goes.

Summary: Best War Picture I've ever seen
Review: Every American needs to see this entire movie to be able to appreciate not only the soldiers who served but also the freedom in which we live. If it weren't for people like this, we wouldn't be living the way we do today. Anyone who doesn't understand or like the military needs to see this, and gain a new understanding.
