Summary: Simply Amazing!
Review: If you like history or movies about war, this is a must see. Even if the aforementioned does not interest you, this is a must see. Band of Brothers is the most amazing, engrossing, and detailed piece on WWII I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. This is a mini-series, but it has the production value of a 100 million or more dollar feature length film. The attention to detail is staggering. Pay whatever your local Best Buy or Circuit City or Wal-Mart is asking, you must own this brilliant piece of work.

Summary: A must for every home
Review: Along the same alley as Saving Private Ryan this DVD series is a must for everyone. I think any effort to try and teach people the sacrifices of war and the realities should be reason enough to buy. I'm more into the Vietnam War and bought this because I loved the way Saving Private Ryan was done and I am thrilled with this purchase. Trying to follow WWII and the history and all the battles is hard and complex and this mini-series makes it alot easier. You follow Easy Company through there whole journey of War and you even get the emotions and effects of War not just shoot um up and kill em stuff. I would like to see Hanks and Spielberg do more of these kinds of films so people would see the sacrifices of many Americans for there freedom.

Summary: The Way Movies Should Be Made-
Review: When I heard "..Brothers" was being made into a movie, I was thrilled. Having read the book years before and having such a vivid picture in my mind of the characters, I could not wait to see it in movie form. The movie did not dissapoint, but it did sucseed in changing my entire view of war and war movies. The main reason is the format- HBO's 10 part series is the ideal way to watch a movie and tell a real story. Justice would not have been done to Band of Brothers if it was a 2-3 hour movie- but as it is here, you have such a deep conection with the characters after 2 or 3 episodes that you really can experience the horror of war through the process of watching it, and re-watching it. The film has been surpurbly cast- the characters are 100% believable and the acting is wonderful. It feels real in it's portral and the way it is shot. It boggles your mind to watch characters you have connected with for the past 6 or 7 hours of the film suddenly dissapear from mortar shell blasts- It left me with a profound understanding of what it was like for soldiers in the second world war, and it also left me with a sence of guilt for how frequently we glorify war and violence in the movies and our culture. I love war movies- and there have been many that impacted my thinking- (ex. Private Ryan, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket), but those movies could never make the conection between the viewer and the characters in 2 hours like Band of Brothers can in 10 hours. Above all, this movie is an incredible honor to those who fought and died for our freedom. The bonus DVD includes a documentary with the actual soldiers of easy company, and is an incredibly moving way to finish the Band of Brothers experience. It made me realize that war is never something that should be idolized, but instead, a price that had to be paid. If a film can change views that drastically, then it's one everybody should see.

Review: This movie was put together by the same people who did Saving Private Ryan, mostly. If you liked that movie, this one is up your alley.

Summary: In a word - Wow
Review: I asked for this set for Christmas because I heard it was good. I wondered if I made a mistake in getting something I'd never seen. My fears were soon alleviated when I started watching the episodes and going through the extras. Band of Brothers may be the best mini-series ever produced, topping even Roots and Lonesome Dove.

Because this is over 10 hours worth of material, this series can delve deeper than films such as Saving Private Ryan. The episodes are informational yet dramatic and poignant. You get the best documentary has to offer and the best drama has to offer. Production values are extremely high - I can't even begin to imagine how much this series cost to make.

The war scenes are portrayed realistically and bluntly, but they aren't used for shock value. Characters are complex and aren't portrayed as one dimensional heroes or cartoonish villains.

The extras on this set are simple yet incredible. On each disc you get the "field guide" which gives you access to descriptions of each character, a map of where Easy company has been and where they're at, a glossary of terms, even a list of army ranks and what they do.

Disc six has a very nice documentary and Ron Livingston's video diaries. Both are excellent. Even the packaging for this DVD is great. In fact, it might just be the coolest packaging for a DVD yet.

The bottom line: If you're even thinking about buying this DVD, do it. You will not be disappointed.

Summary: Some person below is just wrong...
Review: "A reviewer" a handful of reviews down give this series a 3/5 and calls is entertaining and not that great...I am all for an objective opinion, but this person seems to reference Titanic and the all too common claims of "pro-American" and 'patriotic" themes when it comes to war movies, with this falling into that category. Ignore that person. Some people like to hear themselves talk and pretend they are some prophet of critiquing movies. This is one of, if not the best movie ever made for many reasons.

Summary: Great overall, but with one glaring omission...
Review: Great mini-series that fires on all cylinders, but ...

Band of Brothers dvd set does NOT have english subtitles! I consider this a glaring omission that does a great disservice to the men and women who actually served during this war. Many of them are 80+ years old, and hard of hearing. How very unfortunate that the very generation that this miniseries honors may not be able to fully enjoy it!

Review: Band of Brothers is the best Waorld War Two film, documentary or mini-series. The actors are slightly unknown and incredable. This is the most powerful story out there. Buy this series despite the cost. It is more then worth it.

Summary: Couldn't Get Much Better
Review: All the way from the start you feel as if you know how they feel even if you dont really know their characters till you have watched it twice. During Bastogne you truly realise their suffering and become a bit more attached.
Sadly after watching the large documentary it makes you realise that it is actually a lot shallower than you would be made to think. Perhaps if they spent the same budget on a miniseries 1/2 as long it could have been even better, i dont know. What i do know is that it is most certainly worth buying and watching as it is much more enthralling than Saving Private Ryan and you can watch select parts whenever you want.
On the other hand perhaps we could have a series depicting another part of war than just the Americans winning the war (no disrespect) but maybe a film based on the brits with perhaps a slightly more even approach to the enemy and perhaps even a small insight into their lives. Sadly i think anyone would find it difficult to contend with this.
Needless to say this is definately worth watching even if you just rent it though it can do with watching twice because its so good.
