Summary: Absolutely Delightful
Review: I've never seen a film done better than this one. The stand out acting of Ben Silverstone as a gay adolescent is truly inspirational to aspiring actors, those coming out of the closet, and everyone dealing with their demons-or society's. Based off an amazing play by Patrick Wilde, Get Real is sure to bring at least one smile to your face and a tear to your eye. Simon Shore, Ben Silverstone, Brad Gorton, and Charlotte Brittain I applaud and laud you all.

Summary: Best gay film i've seen yet!
Review: I thought the movie was well directed and the cast was marvelous especially the star and costar. The content was not degrading in any way and it let you see how gay life really is especially when you're in love, after all i am gay also. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone especially the gay community! I give it 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!

Summary: Reality, Respectibility and Irony
Review: A wonderful cast set in believable situations make this movie one that you can watch time and again without ever tiring of it. The plot depicts the trials and tribulations of growing up knowing you are gay with disturbing reality. One undercurrent that runs throughout the movie is Steven's father's obsession with Dr. Who... what is that all about anyway? If you thought "Beautiful Thing" was a good movie, you'll think this one is outstanding.

Summary: Laughter and Tears
Review: Get Real ia an excellent peice of art. Never have I seen such a film before. Especially being an English film, I thought I should not even attempt to watch it. I have never seen a finer film, it evokes emotions hidden so deep inside people, you just can't help but being changed after watching it. Steven, played by Ben Silverstone, was an excellent example of how it really is, and how it really feels to be gay and in high school, especially a prive school. I know exactly how it feels. John, played by Brad Gorton, is who I relate to more, he is practically worshiped by certain people, and it is very hard for him to come to terms with his sexuality, and once he does, he still can't admit it. A very common problem, a very sad one. I have honestly never laughed or cried so hard. This movie is for gay, or straight audiences. Maybe you will come out of it a changed person too.

Summary: How do I contain my excitement about Ben Silverstone?
Review: Is there anyone out there who feels the way I do about Ben Silverstone's performance in "Get Real?" I haven't seen any of the Best Actor Oscar-nominated ones, but if I were voting, this one would have it. I don't think I've been this excited about a child actor's gifts since I saw John Howard Davies in "The Rocking Horse Winner." Silverstone's face and presence and subtlety mark him for major stardom, I think. And that voice of his--I kept thinking Jeremy Irons all the time I had the pleasure of hearing it. I don't remember when I thought an actor so deeply filled the shoes of his character. The experience is akin to watching the 15-year-old Oksana Baiul skating to "Swan Lake." It's magical. And beyond that.

The rest of "Get Real" pales next to Silverstone, but it's funny, and tense, and thoughtful, and considering its subject matter--two closeted gay teenagers find love--one deals with it, the other doesn't--it still should be wonderfully entertaining for audiences of a different persuasion. Brad Gorton has the most difficult role to play. He's supposed to play the dreamboat, but his face doesn't take to the camera as well as Silverstone's. It doesn't light up the screen and keep you watching. But he manages to get inside his character enough for us to understand why Steven Carter is so taken by him.

And Christine Brittain, as Steven's confidante, is insouciant enough to give some needed comic relief to a story that could easily turn oppressively solemn. But it's Stacy A. Hart who rises to the occasion as the girl with feelings for Steven. They burn high on the dance floor, and Silverstone and she in those few seconds are simply captivating. There's no other words for it. Blissful.

Summary: Outstanding Film!
Review: After reading some of the negative reviews I had to respond. This movie was outstanding, if not for the difficult subject matter and the way it was handled but for the acting. Ben Silverstone was fantastic in this film and this needs to be recognized. He's heterosexual and plays the role of a homosexual with brilliant acting. The movie was very moving and it's well worth the rent for anyone, gay or straight.

Summary: Good, but ruined by unbelievable climax
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and funny story. It was well written and acted. Young Charlotee Britain particularly shines as Steve's best friend. Her character is overweight, with alot of attitude. The scene where she tells off the big, dumb jock character, who assumes she will sleep with him simply because, being fat, she must be desperate, is priceless. The two male leads are equally appealing.

What keeps me from giving this movie five stars is the melodramatic climax. I am sorry, I don't care how comfortable you are with your sexuality-no 16 year old gets up in front of an auditorium full of his classmates and their parents and announces he's gay. The film would do well to take a look at its title-"get real."

Overall, however, the movie is very entertaining and meaningful-well worth owning so you can view it multiple times.

Summary: Total Junk!
Review: Just because a movie deals with gay themes doesn't mean that it is any good. In fact, too often gay films are lazy, badly directed and written, and, unfortunately, gay audiences seem content with this. Where are the Fassbinders of today? Not here, certainly. This film is total, sentimentalized trash!

Summary: poignant and true to life
Review: I had seen GET REAL 4 times in the cinema and cried everytime. The DVD had just the same effect on me. The acting is first rate. The story, the coming out of a school boy, is someting every gay man has experienced. This is toped by a wonderful directing all in finesse. A beautifull story treated with the light touch of the best british cinema. Not unlike another masterpiece : My beautiful lauderette. A must for every film lover (gay or straight)

Summary: A movie for everyone
Review: I already wrote once about how great this movie is, but after reading other reviews, I had to add: this movie is for a wider audience than just gay adolescents. I am heterosexual and female, and I loved it. The romance portrayed will move anyone with an empathetic heart. If more straight people saw the movie, perhaps we'd make some progress in the way of acceptance for everyone. . .
