Summary: like a car crash!!
Review: this may possibly be the worst movie ever made. EVER.

that said, i own and treasure my copies (first on video, now the deluxe anniversary edition dvd) of the movie, as well as the companion piece, "moments: the making of claire of the moon." although not intended as a comedy, the movie never fails to elicit riotous laughter from viewers due to its inane dialog, atrocious acting, and breathtaking display of alcohol abuse. the character of maggie (the "dyke clark gable", as ms. conn describes her) is particularly disturbing -- she utters what may possibly be the worst line in movie history.

with "moments" you get the behind the scenes view of the writer/director and her band of merry idiots creating what they clearly believe to be a true masterpiece of lesbian cinema. the laughter never stops!!! do your funny bone a favor and buy this movie IMMEDIATELY.

Summary: Entertaining love story, but no masterpiece
Review: I just purchased the new DVD including a bonus "Moments' or the 'making of' DVD. Which is good value if you are a fan of independent lesbian movies. This movie is interesting and entertaining and really worth a look. True the acting is patchy and the production values leave something to be desired, but given the small budget I think this movie does a decent job of bringing a lesbian love story to the screen.
The lead actresses are convincing as polar opposites who overcome all obstacles and get together in the final scene.
Also Trisha Todd is such a babe this movie is worth watching for her alone.

Summary: Finula Bellini
Review: I saw this movie when it was first shown at the L.A. Lesbian/Gay Film Festival, and later on video. While I appreciate the efforts of the filmmaker I find the movie to be trite and unintentionally silly. The acting is okay, but the dialog and character development leave much to be desired. The almost fully clothed sex scene was a riot. The movie is worth renting to see if it appeals enough to you to purchase. I do know other dykes who really enjoyed the film, so you'll have to judge for yourself.

Summary: Has Not Aged Well
Review: Like any gay or lesbian film, for a young or just coming out gay/lesbian, CLAIR can be an experience. It's comforting to see one's self reflected off of a movie or television screen. Unfortunantly, when there are few to chose from, anything is good. That is the biggest problem when it comes to gay films: people will take just about anything, no matter how good or bad it is.

CLAIR is low budget, first and foremost, and everything pretty much reflects that. However, the real problem with this film is the excess of stereotype, and the way dramatic moments are made overly dramatic right up to unbelievable by cliched dialog and lengthy pauses. This is a talky film, full of dialog that is not really neccessary to the advancement of the story. Once you've seen it, this becomes rather tiresome.

Also, some films just don't age well, and this is one of them. The themes still hold, but for whatever reason the film itself hasn't. It is something I would recommend others view once, but I can't honestly recommend it as something to collect or for repeated viewings.

Summary: STUPID, BADLY ACTED, but fun
Review: I'm a guy. I bought the DVD a long time ago in its first release. Well, I had the VHS long before that, but reading here now, I always thought I was the only one who saw how badly acted the film was.

I showed it to lesbian friends of mine, and they actually could care less. I figured they'd truly be inspired, but instead, they all went and got high out on the porch.

The film score is beautiful, though. It really is redemptive. That was the initial draw for me. Someone said they never saw the character Claire actually writing. I'm not sure if that's true. She was smoking on a Moore, which is pretty much how she's a total ashtray, and she's got her laptop and she's screaming, "I'M LUCID, DARNIT, GET OUT OF MY COTTAGE, I'M REALLY ON A ROLL." That was spat at the psychiatrist she finally falls for. I think the other woman was complaining about her grinding coffee beans late at night under the moon. I'm not sure.

Anyway, it really is badly acted. God, it really was.

GET IT. SKIP DINNER. DON'T BUY FOOD, AND BUY THIS FILM.

Summary: Claire, oh Claire! Where art thou?
Review: I have been a "Calire of the Moon" fanatic for as long as the movie has been released. It is a superb story, well acted, with great cinematography. Unlike so many films in this genre, the characters and their behaviour are believable. When I first saw this film it touched me deeply. I bought the VHS version as soon as it was available. I watch it frequently and it is always a wonderful experience for me. The movie itself awakened a long dormant passion within me that ultimately brought me out of the closet. For that one gift I am forever grateful.

Summary: If you like streotype this is the movie for you
Review: This movie annoyed me. I have no problem with gay woman/straight woman romance. Heck I kind of like them. This movie however was long, drawn out, soaked to the brim with sterotypes, and had way too much talking. The only thing I did like about it, was the dance scene. Heck I watch the movie for the dance seen. Still trying to figure out what the song is called. Other then that the movie was barely watchable and very predictable. Nice bedroom scene at the end though.

Summary: Enjoy the Ride
Review: I am astounded when I read negative reviews. The entertainment industry did not fund this film, and thus, the director, cast and crew made this film on a very limited budget. That, in and of itself, must have presented numerous challenges.
One film cannot be all things to all people. However, this film hit the nail on the head regarding the journey of Claire. It is true, that many people were presented in sterotypic fashion, successfully, to act as the "backdrop" for the real drama between Claire and Noel.
The message of the film was clear. Intimacy versus sex. Big difference. I got the message immediately! One mark of a good film is you keep thinking about the message. Each time I see the film and think about the message, I enjoy the ride. As more view this film, they will too.
