Rating: Summary: A true masterpiece Review: This is one of the select few movie productions that reaches the peak of perfection. It has everything and is incredibly well acted as well as directed. It will be a classic forever.
Rating: Summary: Cinematically impressive...and brilliant. Review: Everyone will find a flaw in this film but who can underrate Cate Blanchett's magnificent portrayal of the Virgin Queen? It is a wonderful companion to "Shakespeare in Love" which also stars Joseph Fiennes, Geoffrey Rush, and Blanchett's friend Gwyneth Paltrow. Who would've thought that both Paltrow and Blanchett would be Oscar-nominated for their roles in which they both have Joseph Fiennes as their lover? A lot better than other costume dramas that are mostly all talk and no action. Here you get beheadings, violence, backstabbing, sex, politics, lies, deception. Sounds like Washington D.C. doesn't it? The only thing missing is a spot on a dress. (there's a poisoned dress scene here though!) A treat for lovers of Elizabethan history. It would've been better had the writer and producers carried the plot to her old age, when she met Shakespeare. Watch this first, then pop in "Shakespeare in Love." Cate's performance is amazing and versatile, for she captures all the essence of a young queen out to rule the way she wants regardless of any man's desires.
Rating: Summary: It was good Review: I thought this was gonna be a chick flick but I was wrong. I found it really entertaining and bloody and action-filled enough to keep me entertained.
Rating: Summary: A cartoonish attempt. Review: This is one of those films which manages to make a fascinating subject trite and boring. Sacrificing historical accuracy for effect, the result is a nervous, cartoonish attempt to recount the life of one of the Western world's greatest monarchs. For those who would like to see a rendering of Elizabeth with wit, style *and* substance, skip this failed attempt and see "Elizabeth R" with Glenda Jackson. Not only is it historically accurate but much more entertaining as well. You can buy it right here at Amazon.com.
Rating: Summary: A moving story, visually stunning Review: This is a great DVD. The movie itself is involving, moving and visually stunning with its breathtaking scenes inside stone cathedrals and candle-lit castles. Cate Blanchett is terriffic in the complex role of Elizabeth. The story depicts Elizabeth's ascent from an ethically dedicated but emotion-driven young woman to a great leader who sacrifices everything for the love of her country. The DVD is of excellent video and sound quality and has many nice extras -- the direcor's commentary is particularly good and insightful.
Rating: Summary: Powerful, Dramatic and well done in all... Review: I just got a DVD player ( whoo-hoo! ) and this is my first CD, and it's pretty good. The movie is presented in widescreen and has many interactive things on it, like a photo gallery, trailers, subtitles and a full, thorough "making of the movie" featurette.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: You have to see this. I thought it was much better than Shakespeare in love. Cate Blanchette was robbed of the oscar that she deserved. The costumes were also marvoluos.
Rating: Summary: I Loved It! Review: I loved this movie simply because i loved History and this movie is a fountian of facts, Dates and important people. It may be dark and the cinamatagrophy was not great but this movie is still cool.
Rating: Summary: Response to essex22@hotmail.com from Toronto, Canada Review: You're wrong, this is not the only film that explores princess Elizabeth's life before she becomes queen. Please view the colorful 1950's movie, "Young Bess", starring Jean Simmons as princess Elizabeth, Stewart Granger, Deborah Kerr and Charles Laughton reprising his famous role as Henry VIII. In addition, although it was made for television, the first episode of "Elizabeth R" starring Glenda Jackson also shows her precarious rise to power. This last version is the most historically accurate account of her youth and the best acted than either "Elizabeth" or "Young Bess" . Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Superb in every way!! Review: Loved everything: the acting, script, music, cinetography, and costumes. It was the true movie experience.
