Summary: Too psychadelic.
Review: I watched this movie and could not stand it. It's overdone sets and costumes that may have been "cool" in the seventies look just dumb now. Kubrick didn't go to any lengths to make this film look like the future as he did in 2001, which I think is boring, but much better than this film. It's portrayal of nudity (both male and female) should have awarded it an X rating, and I can't see why it didn't. Maybe because they mixed it with violence (Does that make sense. I didn't think so.) And I have absolutely no simpathy for Alex and he got exactly what he deserved.

Summary: Maybe brilliant in its day--but not today!
Review: While A Clockwork Orange may have been a brilliant portrayal of society's ills and problems when it was produced, I don't see it. On the contrary, it reminds me of modern day productions such as South Park and Beevis and Butthead. While they may be satirical in nature and very thought provoking as to society's problems, A Clockwork Orange simply seemed to be portraying sex, drugs, violence, mental illness, and corrupt governmental institutions just to be doing it without any reasoning. Again, when it was first released it may have had some social significane, but it just seemed to be stereotype after stereotype without significance.

Summary: DVD quality - almost, but the movie's all there!
Review: First, a small correction to a previous review, Alex's last name was never mentioned in the book, and it was "Alexander The Large" in the movie -- more of a joke than anything else.The quality of this DVD is pretty good. There is some dust and scratches, but overall it's excellent -- much clearer than any video tape I've ever seen. It's obvious that no attempt was made to clean it up digitally for the DVD transfer, but that's OK since it adds to the grittiness of the movie. It would have been nice to have a few extras, on the DVD, but I can do without them. I'm glad Warner Bros. got it out this quickly -- they took forever to put the soundtrack on CD... A Clockwork Orange is certainly an acquired taste, and one of the most controversial movies of its time. It's violence is still disturbing, but on a more psychological level than physical. Modern movies are certianly more grpahic, but hardly more disturbing. I hated the movie (more from not understanding it than anything else) the first time I saw it, but was intrigued by the message, so I watched it again and again (and read the book). Now I get it, I think, and I love it. I only hope a cleaned up "Criterion Edition" will come out...

Summary: A Great Movie for People Who Appreciate A GREAT Movie
Review: A clockwork Orange was controversial movie when it came out. But the them, idea, story or what ever you want to call it is a good one. A lot of what Alex and his droogs did were still not all that exceptible in the time when the book was written. But times change and the book is still just as good as it was when it first came out. I have personaly read the book and seen the movie and I think that both are exceptional.

Summary: Welly welly welly welly welly well...this movie is great!
Review: This is one of the greatest Kubrick films ever! The violence, by today's standards is pretty dull, but still there is plenty. I liked Alex more as a droog than when he has been reformed. This movie really deserves an 'R' rating, not really for violence, but has many scenes of rape and sex. I don't think people under the age of 16-17 should see it. It is considered very bizarre, but to me it isn't bizarre except after he has been drinking the old 'milk-plus', whice is laced with drugs. The film makes a lot of sense in a lot of ways. The book (which I think is better) made perfect sense. The movie is close to the book, but the book is a lot more violent and is just better all around. This movie is a classic, it is, I think #43 or so...around in the 40 area somewhere, on the AFI 100 movies list. I reccommend this movie to anyone who appreciates good acting, and filmaking. A must have for any Kubrick fan or person looking for a real 'horrorshow' movie!

Summary: Ultra-violent brilliance.
Review: It's hard to believe that this movie was released in 1971, for it's almost as powerful today. And like most Kubrick films, this brutally cold satire isn't for everyone. Kubrick has a knack of showing the world violence in a way that makes us pause, makes us think, much like Sam Peckinpaw did in the classic "The Wild Bunch". The audience is confronted with one brutal image after another, revealing the insanity of it all. And much like Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon", we have a cold-hearted hero? that we quickly come to despise. Yet, by the time the film winds down to its closing, our feelings for this vile lad has changed. But Kubrick doesn't let Alex off the hook, nor society, nor the viewer. Kudos to Malcom McDowell who played Alex, the anti-social leader of a bunch of misfits. His performance was second to none. Between 1 and 10, "A Clockwork Orange" gets a solid 9, even today.

Summary: What's the big deal?
Review: Maybe its because I'm a latecomer to seeing this movie. When it was released it may have well been groundbreaking; but in 1999 it's just plain weird. It comes across as pretentious and absurd. While there are clearly brilliant scenes, as a whole the movie is little more than an attempt to shock and offend. Those are admirable elements within a movie but insufficient to suppply its foundation.

Summary: REAL HORRORSHOW!!!
Review: It's been fifteen years since I last saw "A Clockwork Orange" and I had forgotten what master work it is. The book is excellent but Stanley Kubrick truly brought it to life. If you have never seen it, do so immediately and if you have not seen it for several years you will enjoy it even more now! Viddy well!!
