Summary: IT'S MY DEAL, WADE!
Review: Friends in other parts of the world who have seen this film don’t find anything all that unusual about the accents. I have to point out how weird the people in the film sound and how their accents are so… strange. And then they start to get the humour of the film. Some of the humour is just not translatable. But is there a more grimly funny film in the 1990s? Not that I can remember. Fargo came along and stunned people. Why? It was a basic and simple film, but the acting, the characters, the location… it was so simple, so perfect, so unexpected. Frances McDormand won an Oscar for her role as the very pregnant sheriff Marge Gunderson, and her performance was fine. As the incredibly nervous and shifty Jerry Lundegaard, who feebly attempts to orchestrate his own wife’s kidnapping, William H. Macy is indispensable. He hires Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare to kidnap his wife in order to extort money from his wife’s father. However, the kidnapping goes awry when the kidnappers kill a few people on the road... Jerry convinces his father-in-law not to contact the police about the kidnapping and let him handle the deal instead. However eventually, as with most half-brained ideas Lundegaard dreams up, everything falls apart. McDormand’s Sheriff is a simple woman with simple tastes, but her simple “stick to the facts” approach to police work and instinct put her on the right path... An insanely good film, like most Coen Brothers films.

Summary: More Like Brainerd Actually
Review: From the Coen brothers, who were behind the other great films "Barton Fink" and "Blood Simple" comes Fargo. Every once in a while a film comes along like no other ("Pulp Fiction", "Forrest Gump") and this is one of them. It's a semi-serious and hilariously funny film based on a true story that happened in Minnesota in the 80's. Steve Buscemi ("Reservoir Dogs", "Con Air"), William H. Macy (Jurassic Park 3, "Psycho") and Frances McDormand ("Wonder Boys", "Mississippi Burning") make this one of the best films of the 90's and probably one of the top 100 films ever. As far as the plot goes, it's about a car salesman, a husband and father (Macy), who hires two men to kidnap his wife so he can get money from his father-in law. Buscemi plays one of the kidnappers and McDormand plays a very pregnant police officer. Like "Pulp Fiction" the dialogue is brilliant and essential to the success of the film. Some of the most memorable scenes are those that aren't really important to the progression of the film. Like when Macy is selling a car and keeps insisting on the "true coat" or when McDormand's husband insists that she eat and gets up to make her breakfast in the middle of the night before she heads off to work. It's very original and one of the best in recent years along with "Pulp Fiction", "L.A. Confidential", "American Beauty" and "Traffic".

Summary: The truth is stranger than fiction..
Review: When I first heard of this movie, I thought someone was telling a tall-tale. I sat down and watched it and remained unglued to my seat until the movie was over. William Macy is brilliant as the wimpish, husband who bribes two men to kidnap his wife, so his father-in-law can dish out the ransom money, so he {Macy} can get himself out of debt. However, the plans go haywire when one of the kidnappers is a little short on patience and is quite trigger-happy. Toss in a pregnant, gumshoe cop {Frances Mcdormand} and there you have it. Excellent movie!

Summary: Best movie of 96
Review: Yes better than English Patient, Secrets & Lies, and even Breaking the Waves. Fargo is the quintissential black comedy (ranks right up there with Dr. Strangelove and Prizzi's Honor). I loved the characters and their wacky dialogue. This is one of the best movies I have seen.

Summary: Unforgettable
Review: "A totally disarming comedy"? What in the world was Leonard Maltin thinking? Yes, this is a movie which features some intense black comedy, but the only people who could happily giggle through it would be clones of the film's own depraved and brain dead kidnappers-for-hire, played so unforgettably by Buscemi and Stormare.

Summary: A 90s classic
Review: "Fargo," is the tale of a kidnapping scheme gone horrribly wrong. It is filled with great performances by its actors, and features an engaging script. Thogh Mcdormand deserved her Oscar for this role, it was William H. Macy who stole the show, with a superb performance as a car salesman who hires criminals to kidnap his own wife. A film which can move from hilarity to horror in a matter of minutes. In addition to the wonderful script, it features some of the most inventing sequences seen in a while, most notably putting someone in a wood chipper. "Fargo,' is a fun movie to watch, with a great script and performances.

Summary: A Great 1996 Drama!!
Review: Fargo was one of the best films that I have seen so far this year. Based on a true story that happened in Minnisota in 1987, the film talks about a Car Salesman named Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) who wants his wife Jean Lundegaard (Kristin Rudrüd) kidnapped so he can receive money from his grumpy father-in-law, Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare) and then..... Well, I do not want to spoil the plot!! But I will tell you that the film has lots of surprises, so keep on watching!!

This film is Rated R for Language, Violence and some Sexual Scenes.

Summary: ...the heck d'ya mean?
Review: I am a huge Coen brothers fan, and my favorite movie of their's will always be The Big Lebowski, but Fargo is not too far behind. This film is stunningly beautiful in every way, from the score and storyline to the actors and the action. William H. Macy turned out the best performance of his career in this movie (just in front of Boogie Nights.) Rarely does an actor in a film make me feel as sorry for them as Macy did in this one. He's caught and he knows it and plays the blundering, studdering fool perfectly. Watching this movie makes you glad you're an upstanding citizen and would never try anything like that and be caught up in such a mess! Rent it, buy it--don't steal it--but watch it.
