Summary: What could go wrong?
Review: Meg Ryan in a dark edgy, sexy role - you ask yourself what could go wrong? at worst a misguided but valiant attempt at changing Megs squeeky clean image tied into a taut, psychological thriller. Well within 5 minutes you can tell things can go very, very wrong and you were going to be in for a long evening. First the quick cut cinematography - didnt we see enough of this on MTV in 1994? Is this supposed to add visual interest to an otherwise horrible film? And the script - awful and unbelievable - you cringe or laugh when you hear the actors overreact to these lines. Ruffalo succeeds in making his character extremely unlikeable - but i wasnt certain this was the intent. Ryan earns a modest plus for her role but walking around looking glum hardly merits much of a workout. The plot? - obvious and uninspired - an R rated Homicide: Life on the streets. OK...Did i mention the quick cut cinematography? Jane Campion has some legacy directing credibility with The Piano and she is borrowing on it way too much...

Summary: legal porno? how far can they go!
Review: Ok, lets cut to the chase, the unrated dvd is basically porno-
most video stores cannot or will not carry this dvd.-In the future Meg should think about what she is doing-she will not win an oscar for what she does here-she needs some grooming tips!
What I do not understand is why the studio did not tell the truth
about what they were releasing-alot of video stores had to return this product to their dist.
Perhaps in the future we can have some truth in advertising!

Summary: Dark, clever thriller -- just like the novel!
Review: I won't bother to write a complete plot synopsis of the film (you can look for the book review of In the Cut I wrote a while back). I will, however, give praise where praise is due. Most films taken from novels fail to translate the novel's language and resort to turning the film into mush. This film isn't one of them. Director Jane Campion captures the darkness and starkness of a New York that is seldom illustrated in films. The cinematography is excellent. And the acting is superb. I loved Mark Ruffalo's portrayal of Detective Malloy. He really brought the character to life. But the biggest surprise in the film is Meg Ryan. She's branched out of her America's Sweetheart image with a bang. She's proven that, above all else, she is an actress, and a versatile one at that. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kevin Bacon also do a great job. The ending was disappointing though. The book's ending was far more gripping and disturbing. Then again, the film cannot be identical to the novel. All in all, Hollywood managed to capture this dark erotic thriller without sugarcoating the events. The sex scenes between Ryan and Ruffalo are the best ones I've recently seen in film. The DVD is a great investment. The Unrated and Uncut Director's Edition is a must-have. I couldn't recommend it enough!

Summary: The worst movie I've seen in years
Review: Fortunately, I saw this movie on DVD so I could fast-forward through the worst scenes.

The movie has awful characters. Meg Ryan plays the part of a women desperate for sex. The detectives are foul-mouthed. The only likeable character is a black English student. Yet later into the film he tries to commit rape.

Why would anyone pay money to produce such trash? And why would Meg Ryan agree to play a main character that no one will like?

Summary: All men are beasts
Review: A disturbing mood, disjointed photography, and a puzzle hold the interest for a while, but the ending is a disappointment. Not a nice guy in the whole movie, and why does she stay with the one she ends up with. Men have to be chained up to be trusted. You'll see what I mean.

Summary: "In The Cut" Makes Gigli Look Good
Review: The worst movie of this, or any other decade.

Review: I would say that this movie is above average. Also the movie was terific.

Summary: Oh look there's a stain on the wall - better clean it
Review: This is pretty terrible as Hollywood films go. I had more fun watching the walls than watching this since there is nothing going on here. And by that I mean nothing interesting. The characters are completely useless. Cardboard cut outs would have acted better than this. And as the plot plods along you can't help but think when the hell does this end

The only person I really feel sorry for is Kevin Bacon. The guy is woefully underused as Meg Ryan's "intense" ex boyfriend. He gives the film a brief glimmer of hope but is then gone for almost the rest of the entire film.

Save your money on something better unless you like seeing Meg Ryan have sex in a movie.....but even then that's much of a highlight when the film is as boring as can be.

Summary: HOW COULD MEG RYAN MAKE THIS MOVIE..........
Review: I honestly cannot believe Meg Ryan could/would make this "movie". It is nothing more than a soft-core porn movie with a lot of famous actors in it. It was way over the top.
Everyone makes a mistake...And this was a big one.

The cops were annoying with the constant foulness and aggressiveness. I just don't get it.

This is an all-time new low for Hollywood.

Summary: Porn with A list Actors
Review: Horrible piece of crap all around. The story and acting were both awful. This was merely a soft core porno with a-list actors that should have never been made.
In fact, I enjoyed "House of the Dead", "Swimming Pool", "Feardot.com" and "Gigli" more than this movie. Now, that is bad.
