Summary: The best love story I've ever seen
Review: I love this movie; in fact it is the best love story I've ever seen. The most romantic thing about it is that Gladys and Lin Nan only kiss one time and communicate their love entirely through their looks and facial expressions! I find the development of their relationship full of the romantic tension which is lacking in most of today's movies. The backdrop of war and the knowledge of imminent death and/or permanent separation, after a lifetime of waiting for each other, is truly heart rending. This is a gem for anyone who appreciates scenary and who will take the time to listen to the dialog.

Summary: Truly Inspiring. Tears at your heartstrings. Unforgettable
Review: I saw this film as a teen-ager and have not seen it since, but I shall never forget the story. Bergman is magnificent as the English servant/wannabe missionary whose life long dream is to serve in China. Her lack of credentials results in her being initially refused the opportunity. Her dogged perseverence however, and a little help from a dear friend who had faith in her, finally allows her to realize her dream. What follows is truly one of the most inspiring stories ever to grace the silver screen. I don't think I have ever been touched more deeply by a film before or since. This film may not have won an Oscar or made the list list of top 100 films, but for me it one of my all time favorites. I am on my way to purchase a copy after I submit this review.

Summary: This is a true story of a woman with grit
Review: I saw this Movie and it moved me. It's about a seemingly ordinary woman who had an extraordinary passion on the inside of her. Hollywood used it's very best to portray this woman and her story, Ingrid Bergman, I recommend it to anyone, whether your into history, old movies, romance or your relationship with Jesus you will enjoy this movie. Further study on the woman Gladys Aylward, the person of whom this movie is about will stir you. you will see what a person with faith in God coupled with determination not to fail can do. I'm going to buy it and recommend it for the video collection of the people who like good wholesome movies.

Summary: Amazing... for everyone.
Review: I was looking over the past reviews, and noticed a trend. "Inspiring, etc." And frankly I am getting the impression it is only Christian mothers writing these reviews (don't be offended by that... I can't think of any other way to summarize what I am getting at) I have three points to make about myself. #1: I am 17, male #2: I am borderline agnostic - atheist #3: I dislike romances And you know what? This is my favourite movie of all time. This movie is NOT for only a certain group of Church - Goers, so don't be discouraged by the other reviews. I don't know if I would go as far as to say I was "inspired" by the movie, but I do love it and strongly recommend it.

Summary: All time favorite
Review: I watched this movie when it first came out, a long time ago. I was thirteen years old and I went and saw that movie three times. That was a very intense story. Even at age thirteen when I couldn't understand everything that was going on I knew Gladys loved the character played by Kurt Jurgins, I loved him too! I was raised in Hawaii and marrying someone of another race was a big possibility for me. Even more than forty years later I can watch that movie and have a good cry. Enjoy it, movies back then left a lot to the imagination and that is the best way.

Summary: This movie Distorted Christianity
Review: I watched this video, but I didn't like it.

The real life of this missionary woman might have been very moving and inspiring, but the movie made her story sound fake. The movie tried to be entertaining by mixing Christianity with politics and Hollywood affairs. It did not demonstrate how the spirit of God manifested in her life and in her thoughts, to make her became the way she was. Instead, it portrayed things as if all her strength came from her own mind. It presented things as if all her resources came from a corrupted local politician-who himself was an oppressor of the poor, full of greed, and was living an adulterous life with numerous concubines. It also left me with the impression that all her spiritual support came from a worldly, confused man who seemed to only care about his own ego.

To be honest, I think this movie is very ill made. It distorted Christianity. It portrayed what is real as if it is unreal; it presented what is true as if it is not true. It used the name of Christianity, but denied God's power and His purity by mixing good and evil, light and darkness as if they belong together and support each other.

This movie struck me as being very artificial and insincere. I really don't want to watch this video again or recommend it to anyone else. If I can think of an analogy, this movie distorted things in this way: Imagine a movie where Jesus came to this world, was rejected by the poor Jewish shepherds, but was welcomed by the Pharisees and Sadducees; and then He performed a social reform on the layman Jews, all under the sponsorship of the high priest Caiaphas and protection of the high Roman official Pontius Pilate! If you think this distorted story is bad enough to destroy your conscience, you will certainly want to stay away from this video.

Summary: Happiness doesn't begin to express your feelings!
Review: If ever a film cried out for release as a DVD production-with a little hype to let everyone know it was available-this is it. The world we live in needs heros. Real, living, breathing heros! This film shows us that they are all around us-ordinary people who do extraordinary things. Robert Donat is magnificent in his final role. Ingrid Bergman makes you wish she was around and in her prime-today. Every family should see this.

Summary: INCREDIBLE EPIC OF SELFLESS LOVE
Review: New on DVD (August, '03), this exceptional film strikes an emotional chord with universal truths.

The beauteous Ingrid Bergman portrays China-obsessed Gladys Aylward in 1958's THE INN OF THE SIXTH HAPPINESS (FOX), an epic, incredible true story about an inexperienced Brit turned down by the Missionary Society who goes alone to a remote northern China province. Although at reviled, she selflessly overcomes all obstacles and eventually leads 100 children to safety just ahead of the invading Japanese. Oh, and she finds love with a stern Dutch-Chinese military officer (Curt Jurgens).

This big, beautiful tearjerker about the risks and rewards of selfless love is exquisitely wrought and -- rarest of all -- genuinely inspiring. Don't miss it.
