Summary: I loved this movie!!
Review: Even though I really liked Braveheart I was very surprised when this movie didn't win the Oscar for Best Picture of 1995. I thought everything from the performances to the excellent cinematography was dead on. I can't believe Ang Lee wasn't nominated for best director. The story is deep and you start to really care about the characters. It should have been a toss up between this and Leaving Las Vegas for best picture of 1995.

Summary: WOW
Review: This is a deeply satisfying movie in all regards. The writing is superb---witty and sad. The performances are excellent! Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant, in particular, are especially endearing and inspired. The scenery makes you breathless. This film made me laugh and cry. I have not read the book, but I fail to see how it could possibly be better than the movie. Of all the Jane Austen adaptations I have seen (Pride and Prejudice, Emma), I found this to be my favorite. Watch it! You won't regret it. How did Ang Lee NOT win an oscar?

Summary: Depressing with a slightly happy ending
Review: The story of the Dashwood sisters is an interesting look at how women perhaps lived just for their wedding day. The story is based on Jane Austen's classic novel.

This movie needed more romance and less silliness. To be quite frank, it was not believable. If you don't mind eternally slow movies, you might enjoy it. There just is only one thing that will make you laugh out loud as promised on the cover. For me, this was more of a tragic romance than a romantic comedy.

You won't feel that Marianne actually gets what she deserves. There is no way a woman would get over love that fast! I felt the characters were cheated in some way. The happy ending didn't really seem that happy. So is life.

Summary: Wonderful, Romantic and Brilliant!!
Review: I just finished watching this movie for the fourth time and I loved it just as much as always. This is truly a brilliant film and adaptation of the novel. Emma Thompson did such a swell job as Miss Dashwood that I cry every time I watch! She is so talented and I can't say enough about this film. The story is of course so very romantic and even comical and the way the cast portrays each character is simply wonderful. I highly recommend this movie to anyone as it would be a shame to miss out on such a fine performance. I know I will watch this movie again in coming years. It's a classic.

Summary: I Loved It
Review: I absolutely loved this movie. It is one of the few movies I've seen which I've liked as much/more as the book. It's an excellent adaption, which doesn't cut too much out. Emma Thompson does a fabulous job as Elinor Dashwood, the "sense" part of the duo. She may be older then the real character, but she plays the part so well, you don't really notice it. She's kind of the voice in the movie, being the strong one for everyone to lean on. Alan Rickman is great as Colonel Brandon. It's really great to see an actor who can play both evil and tender, sentimental characters. However, great as I think all these actors are, none of them can compare with Kate Winslet's portrayal of Marianne Dashwood, the "sensibility" part. I can't read the book without thinking of her as Marianne. Kate Winslet does a truly wonderful job of playing the sentimental, artistic, romantic Marianne. She's high-spirited, and holds high ideals on love. When she finally does get married (I won't tell you to who), you can see she's matured a lot since the beginning of the film. This is a great movie, and I suggest that everyone see it!

Summary: Excellent Adaptation!
Review: I love Jane Austen and her time period, so of course I loved this movie! The sets, costumes, acting, music, and story are all beautiful and enchanting! This movie is a timeless love story and will be remembered for generations to come. Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson were perfect for their roles, I was very impressed.

Summary: A delight
Review: If you like period films, wonderful heroes (some dashing, but flawed - others not so dashing, but true!) and intelligent heroines. You will enjoy this film.

Ms. Thompson's adaption is great. A few bad "guys", wonderful good "guys" and a happy and tidy ending. The acting is first rate - from the main characters to supporting. If you purchase this film, you will not be dissappointed!

Summary: One of the best adaptations of Austen
Review: I had just watched this video for the hundredth time and I am still in love with it. I cried at times being the tear jerker movie fan in me. It is a stunning movie filled with romance and comedy. If you are a firm believer that there is someone for everyone, I would recommend you watch this movie. It is an emotional movie that moves me to tell others that this is one of the best adaptations of Jane Austen's books.

Summary: one of the best!
Review: One of the best movies I've ever seen. I'm not into classics at all since I find them boring, but this is a wonderful, wonderful movie. It's been awhile since I've seen it, yet the memory of how much I enjoyed it stays with me. Kate Winslet was nominated for an Academy Award here, and while I don't know the other contenders at the time, I think she gave the best performance of anyone else in this movie. I'm a fan- of Kate's and this movie.

Summary: A beautiful adaptation...
Review: As gorgeous as the 1996 Miramax adaptation of Jane Austen's _Emma_, this film is at once accessible and fantastic. It's got everything - romance, humor, dispair, recovery, and renewal, and all of it right in step with the spirit of the novel itself. While the ages of some of the actors may offend some Austen purists, I believe that the casting choices were brilliant. Sometimes, accurate age casting does not make for accurate character portrayal. Fans of Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, and Kate Winslet will not be disappointed.
