Summary: A real winner
Review: I guess this is the first time a movie had me in tears at the end ... They were happiness tears - not the kind of reaction associated with sorrow and despair.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A stunning film that deserves more than one viewing!
Review: I have to say that this is one of the best films that I have seen in a long time, and as a projectionist at a first run, and art film movie house I have seen a lot! The tender interaction between the two neighbors in a time when gay relationships are usually potrayed as whimsical flings was refreshing. Although sure to touch anyone in the first viewing, I would reccomend watching this film several times in order to pick up all of the layers of the plot. I would reccomend this to anyone!

Summary: The most exciteing movie of my life
Review: I love this movie. I guess it's because it some what protanes to my life. Though i'm not gay i'm bisexal. And I think this movie should get a oscar and some other wounderful awards.Think every one that is anyone should see it even if they don't like homosexuality.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Accurate, funny, and sincere
Review: "Beautiful Thing" is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen. It deals with the touchy subject of homosexuality in a sincere and heartwarming manner. The acting is superb and was worthy of Oscar nominations. This story is both touching and important. If more directors would do justice to issues such as this the movie industry would do a great credit to itself.

Summary: A lovely movie for anybody
Review: As the middle-aged mother of two heterosexual sons, you might think I didn't come close to the target audience for a film about gay teenagers. But I loved it and found it touching, well-acted and beautifully hopeful. Everybody should see it, especially the prejudiced. Why on earth is it available only to the over-18s in the US? They can see movies full of violence but not something which affirms life. I am baffled.

Summary: Finally! The movie I've been searching for!
Review: The best movie I have seen all year. It seems like most of the gay romance movies I've watched result in the partners being either lonely or dead at the end. Beautiful Thing satisfied my need to find a gay romance with a happy ending :)

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Funny and uncomplicated
Review: So refreshing in our so-called 'sophisticated' nineties, this film succeeds because of its un-self-conscious, tongue in cheek, witty and civilised (read: British) approach to a series of complex issues.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Glorified Sit-Com
Review: While I enjoyed this movie, a recurring thought was, "If this story were about a heterosexual couple, it would be considered sweet but banal, and buried." I agree that it should get credit for being so unforced and open-minded about a gay teen romance, but most people I know are equally open-minded. Why lavish praise on an average script merely because of its political position? The cast was mostly outstanding, and there were many charming moments. But eventually I felt exactly as though I were watching TV. The rhythms, the broadly drawn characters (especially the boyfriend of the mother and the violent father), and the incessant one-liners seemed taken straight from a sit-com.

Despite the many genuine touches, it was a little mawkish, predictable, and arbitrarily plotted. Very much what would be called in the States an "After-School Special" (a series of TV-movies dealing with common adolescent crises). I admit, if it hadn't been for all the silly raves below I would've given it three stars....

Summary: A realistic affirmation of life, diversity and courage
Review: Like an onion, this movie has layers not readily perceived on one viewing. Each scene has a purpose that leads the viewer to the joy of life and the sexual diversity affirming conclusion. To be oneself and proud of who you are, demands an acceptance of self along with a courageousness of spirit not many people have attained in adulthood, let alone in the identity seeking tribulations of the teenage years. The two young male actors have portrayed in a realistic and sensitive way that compassion, caring and love are not solely within the province of the hetereosexual world.

This movie is a keeper.

Summary: Beautiful in Every Way!
Review: As others have said, there's little to add to the glowing reviews from other viewers, but I wanted to be part of the near five-star sweep for this Beautiful in Every Way film! The first several times I watched it, I was was intrigued by the actors portraying the two lads of the story, but further viewings have made me realize how outstanding the whole cast in the film is, particularly Sandra the mother and the Mama Cass devotee next door. I'm a little worried that all these repeated viewings have made me rather OBSESSED about this film. But I don't care--it's worth it! And it really DOES deserve all those 5-star ratings it's been getting.
