Summary: Cute farcical fluff
Review: The key to enjoying this movie is to forget that the Coen brothers are involved. It is little like the rest of their work and does not compare, it is not of the same ilk as their other works. It works great, though, as a light farce, as long as you don't take it too seriously and don't expect too much. I thought Zeta-Jones did a great job, very funny. I thought Clooney was only "ok," passable, but someone better could have improved this somewhat. As the film goes on, it gets more and more ridiculous, but I think that was the intent. The fast dialog between the two main characters is very funny, the script does have a few high points.

This is not something I would ever watch a second time. But if it comes on cable and you have little else to do, it will be a fun and entertaining 2 hours or so and you will be pleasantly surprised given the horrible reviews it got. For what it is, a very light farce, it's delightful for one viewing.

Summary: Deadly. Dull. Dud.
Review: This movie has about 2 1/2 minutes of laughs in it. Geoffrey Rush is totally wasted & yet just about the best thing in it. Ed Hermann is fabulous but again is seen too little & his talents are way under-utilized. George Clooney is amusing & he sure tries hard but he can't carry the movie alone. Catherine Zeta-Jones is no help. She has all the charisma of a cardboard poster. Whatever happened to comediennes on the order of Kate Hepburn & Roz Russell?

The Coen brothers should stick to 30 second TV commercials which is how long an attention span their recent movies justify.

Summary: The Coen Brothers actually disapointed me!!!!!
Review: Let me just start by saying that I'm a DIE HARD coen brothers fan! I love every single one of their movies, except this on of course! I put this movie off for a long time because it just didn't seem like the Coen Brother's material to me! Finally I said what the heck and gave it a chance! I hated it from the start! The film's plot just didn't catch my interest and the whole movie is just too HOLLYWOOD for me! Others might like it though, because there are a lot of brain dead people out there who just love seeing the same hollywood plot over and over again. If you're a true Coen brothers fan then this film will disapoint you. Hopefully the Ladykillers will be better......a lot better!

Review: Don't waste your time, I hate to see really good actors sell themselves out for lousy scripts.

Summary: Peters out towards the end...
Review: George Clooney stars as slick city lawyer Miles Massey. Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as his golddigging counterpart-Marilyn. When Miles falls for Marilyn during her divorce trial from her first husband, Marilyn plots revenge. What follows is a cat vs. shark fight to see which conniver will end up on top.

I really think the movie started out well. But it lost steam about halfway through when Miles begins to truly fall for Marilyn. After that, Mile's character transforms abruptly, and I found the transformation unbelievable. Also, I thought Marilyn was rather an unsympathetic character. Her motives were worse than Miles' in my opinion. And I felt no real chemistry between her and Clooney.

This was a cute film, but the second half of the script could use some work. This was an entertaining flick, but I had to deduct a star for uneven characterization and the second half which seemed 'tacked' on.

Summary: Let's put it like this...
Review: 2 hours after finishing it and I couldn't for the life of me remember the outcome of Intolerable Cruelty. Don't waste your time with this one. Clooney and Zeta Jones had their moments but they weren't fab enough to hold up this lame story line. Nothing happens in this movie and in the end you're left scratching your head wondering, "Did I miss something?".

Summary: What were Catherine and George thinking???
Review: How could I not like a movie with Catherine Zeta-Jones and George Clooney...I think the answer is when the movie is called "Intolerable Cruelty". Well one thing is for sure...the title says it all. This movie is not only intolerable but it seems cruel to be so stupid. There are many recognizable actors in this movie which surprised me. Billy Bob Thornton makes an appearance and he is probably is the most fun and likeable character in the whole movie. WARNING: THIS MOVIE HAS NO PLOT, NO CLIMAXES, NO FUNNY MOMENTS, NOTHING, NADA, ZIP! Unless you have absolutely nothing else to do with your time, DO NOT WASTE IT ON THIS MOVIE! And please, Catherine and George and Billy Bob...I love ya'll but think again if approached for a sequal.

Summary: A grossly under-rated movie that is a lot of fun!
Review: I loved "Intolerable Cruelty." Maybe my expectations were lower since so many reviewers didn't like it. Or, maybe everybody else just missed it. George Clooney is perfect as a lawyer who is, shall we say, a few writs short of a full briefcase. He meets Catherine Zeta-Jones in a divorce case, and instantly and completely falls head over heels for her (and what lawyer wouldn't). Even though he knows she is going to try to get his money, he thinks he has outsmarted her and pursues her anyway. The plot twists and turns from there. But it isn't the plot that makes this movie funny, it's the little things. You've got to pay attention! For example, when George Clooney gets married, the priest lists his law firm after his name. This cracked me up. Plus, the expressions on George Clooney's face are really funny, like his role in "Brother, Where Art Thou?" The characters are all somewhat exaggerated, and this separates "Intolerable Cruelty" from your average comedy. This movie relies on a pretty brutal form of humor, in the same vein but not as rough as "The Fortune Cookie." If you're able to let go of people being nice to each other, you'll be in the right mood for "Intolerable Cruelty." I also think people who have some knowledge of legal processes, either as a lawyer or as a litigant, will find this movie funnier than people who have never experienced this particular joy. "Intolerable Cruelty" is definitely worth a look.

Summary: There's definitely something intorlerably cruel going on...
Review: ... and it's what the film makers are making you sit through. Ok, so it's not desperately bad, but is it just me or does this film seem like a completely pointless hour and a half? This is a romantic comedy without any romance, and any comedy. One of those films with such great potential, that falls down on a poor script that can barely manage some average 'smile' humour, and a few trite speeches about love and life that make you cringe rather than shed a tear. The film basically centres on a man-eating divorcee out for wealth and independence and a sharp divorce lawyer bored of money and independence who wants more from his life. They meet, some stuff happens, you're never sure who's dong who over, and who has the upper hand, and then they fall in love. Or do they? Etc etc. I really wanted to like this film and thought it had a lot of potential, but somehow it just doesn't work. If you ask me the best scene, and best performance comes from Geoffrey Rush and his wife, and the pool man. Worth watching for that! However, I give the film two stars. One for Catherine Zeta Jones who looks totally gorgeous throughout, and another one for Catherine Zeta Jones (See above).

Summary: Boring!!
Review: Need I say more? I thought that regardless of the plot at least I would have George Clooney to look at. Unfortunately that wasn't even enough to make this movie interesting!
