Summary: One of the best movies of all time
Review: This is probably my favorite movie ever! I was pleased to see it listed among the AFI's 100 Greatest Movies of All Time. McDormand, Macy, and Buscemi were all GREAT. The one thing I really like about the Coen's movies is that, as someone already pointed out, they're very unique. You never know what to expect. Definitely watch this movie, you won't regret it. Afterwards, consider some of the Coen's other movies like The Hudsucker Proxy, Barton Fink, Blood Simple, and The Big Lebowski. All are equally as pleasing!

Summary: Exquisite and unique film!
Review: I love this film. I lived in Minnesota for a while, and the Coen brothers are from Minneapolis -- I don't know what a few of the other reviewers are talking about. People in Minnesota (especially in the rural areas) do act and sound like this! It's an entertaining film, yes somewhat exaggerated -- but it's supposed to be. If you don't have an appreciation for very dark humor you might want to avoid it. But one can not deny the refreshing uniqueness of this film in an era when Hollywood just cranks out one film after another based on the same tired formula. The acting and directing is great and truly deserved the Oscars!

Summary: Gratuitous violence overshadows some great potential
Review: I tried to view this highly recommended film with an open mind. I was told "the accents are great", "the acting is wonderful", "you are transported right to Minnesota". I tried to go along with the crowd. I really did. But you know what, enough is enough. The novelty is gone just about the time the first close-range bullet splatters the first brain. This could have been an interesting, satirical movie. Instead it was mind-numbing and violent. It was for the pulp fiction crowd. Perhaps blowing someone's head off, or shooting them in the back is entertaining. I missed that point. McDormand and Macy give great performances, likable and disturbing, but please...leave something for our imaginations. Make it thoughtful. The number of times I have heard someone ask me "but wasn't the woodchipper funny" makes me think about a lot of individuals trying to justify something. Stand up for yourselves, go see a good movie.

Summary: Why was this movie nominated for a BEST PICTURE award?
Review: The appeal of this film is totally lost on me! True, the performances were well done, and a lot of talented people obviously worked on this picture... still, the story itself was AWFUL! Why was this story even written? Maybe I'm wrong to see movies for entertainment purposes, but if you're looking for an enjoyable film, THIS ISN'T IT!!!

Summary: the wrost film ever made
Review: what a boring experince, this film is far from any masterpiece. It is too long, poorly writen and NO WAT IN HELL DID FRANCIS MACDORMANT DESERVE AN OSCAR FOR THIS FILM. She is a very very very very poor actress and the film is hardly compelling and makes little sense. As i see it the film stole two oscars from people who really desrved them. I also found the film way to stylish, so much that it overt took the film narrative. Every charater in the storie is either a sterotype or unlikable. THe best part of owning the tape is that there is a preview for the film Jude in it.( which is kind of ironic becaues macdormant stole that films lead actress oscar form here. ) ( I wirte reviews ofr the Long Ilsand youth film Society)

Summary: absolutely the best
Review: I've seen this movie at least a dozen times. Every time, I've seen more and more little things to laugh at. It's a definite cult film that won't appeal to everyone but it remains one of my favorites.

Summary: Typical Coen brilliance....
Review: I get the feeling a lot of people who wrote reviews didnt quite understand this film. Which is highly strange considering that, on the surface, its fairly straight forward if a little quirky. The characters are all a little offbeat, but its a film, not some definative portrayal of small town american life. I mean, in all honesty, how often do the events in this movie actually happen to occur? The camera work is subdued, compared to their other works, and the script is both simple and hysterically funny. Fargo is an almost dark comedy/thriller and one you wont regret watching. Higly recomended..

Summary: interesting...
Review: truely original (even though it is based on a true story). Steve Busemi is histerical as one of the kidnappers. Frances McDormand is also funny and oscar worthy as well. It is the Coen Brothers 2nd best film of their career(Raising Arizona being the 1st). From when I wrote this I am the first American to write this.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: unusual
Review: Fargo manages to take very dark subject matter, make it humourous at times, all the while maintaining a sense of realism. The characters are really what make this movie; they are quirky and entertaining. Great acting; William H. Macy stands out. A definite departure from the ordinary, highly recommended.
