Rating: Summary: A fantastic "must see" video Review: This is absolutely THE BEST movie of all time! The storyline is exceptionally well written with meaningful dialogue as well as being historically realistic. Although not a war movie, the scenes of World War I and the Russian Civil War elicit the horror of war. The cinematography of the Russian landscape during winter is astoundingly beautiful. Omar Sherif turns in a stunning performance as Yuri Zhivago struggling with forbidden love amidst the turmoil of the Russian Revolution. Sir Alec Guiness gives a solid performance as his communist brother also. However, the true star of the movie is Julie Christie, who looks absolutely breath-taking as Lara, Zhivago's mistress. I watch this film every year and it always leaves me with a lump in my throat. If I could only have one movie for my collection, this is it.
Rating: Summary: Utterly breathtaking. Review: I'm an avid movie watcher and when I heard my English teacher recommend this one while reading "Animal Farm", I just had to see it. I rented it, thinking it would be some ordinary movie. Little did I know it was a masterpiece. The academy award winning music score by Maurice Jarre was brilliant (I rushed out and bought the soundtrack). It caught every moment of the movie and added lovely Russian sounds (the balalaika was wonderful) in with it. One can not forget the beautiful & famous "Lara's Theme." The cinematography took my breath away, from showing the vast frozen tundra to the Ural Mountains rising out of the plains. The story was another well done point. It was intelligent and captivating. The acting was superb, the actors made the wonderful characters of Pasternak's novel come alive. All around it is one of the best movies ever made, period. I also learned a lot of historical facts, that helped with a report. The second time I watched it, I rented the 30th Anniversary Letterbox Edition. The theatrical preview and Omar Sharif were interesting before- try seeing that edition.
Rating: Summary: Its better than great Review: This is one helluva great movie. There is nothing quite like it. You will be satisfied and fulfilled at its conclusion. I remember my Mother taking me to this as a kid, and there are some images from the movie that stayed with me. When I see it now, I get nostaglic because its part of my own history, as well as one of the greatest movies ever made. ALL involved were at or near the top of their game. I love this movie very much.

Rating: Summary: The Best Movie I've ever seen! Review: I have had several favorite movies. "Titanic", "Gone With The Wind" etc.etc. Never in my 11 years of life have I liked a movie as much as this. The story of the Russian poet and doctor(Omar Sharif), who marries the pretty Tonya (Geraldine Chaplin). She is his dream until he meets the beautiful Lara (Julie Christie). His life has changed until... If you have not seen this movie then, what the heck do you watch?
Rating: Summary: Better than the book! Review: David Lean did an excellent job of transfering the essence of Pasternak's novel to the screen. All actors were good but I thought that Rod Steiger was particularly compelling in his role as Komaroffsky. The wide screen (letterboxed) video displays itself poorly on a TV screen.
Rating: Summary: this movie is really great Review: i thought this movie was going to suck but it didn'
Rating: Summary: A stunning Russian love epic of grand proportions. Review: This is the film that set off a fashion trend at my high school when it was released in a 30th Anniversary edition. This film is a grand scale drama about a Russian poet/doctor who dearly loves his sensitive wife yet wants this other woman named Lara. The backdrop is Russia during the Revolution around 1916, or something like that. Zhivago and his family are swept up in these fleeting events that put him in self-conflict between his wife and adulterous lover. His final choices concerning her and his family forever alter his remaining years. Based on the Nobel-Prize winning novel, it won 5 Academy Awards in 1965--Best Screenplay Adaptation, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, and Best Music Score, which introduced the hit tune "Lara's Theme" a.k.a. "Somewhere My Love." It was also a Best Picture nominee. Omar Sharif won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Zhivago. Julie Christie and Geraldine Chaplin also star. Christie won the Oscar that same year for Best Actress in the film "Darling", which I also reviewed. Not rated upon its release, but the anniversary edition denotes a PG-13 rating for mature themes and situations. This is one of my favorite films ever and is one of the films listed on AFI's Top 100 Films of All Time. The acting is great, costumes exquisitely detailed, gorgeous photography, lavish sets, and a famous score all add up to one of the greatest films of this century.
