Summary: Brings out the best and worst of film making
Review: "American Beauty" is highlighted, and rightfully so, by Kevin Spacey's Oscar winning performance. He really makes the film worth watching. His ability to play this middle aged man who is going through a midlife crisis is very very good. His character is very interesting and if it served as a strict character study the film would have been much better.

Every other character in this film is horrible not just in the way they are written but by who the people are. There is a character in this film that not only sells pot but is portrayed as a wonderful person who is only put down by his abusive and crazy dad who does not want him using or selling. Hollywood will take the kid's side of course and will not tolerate the father figure at all. Other chracters like Spacey's wife (Annette Benning in a pretty good performance) and his daughter are just terrible characters.

Everyone else around him was not only insane but not very good at heart either. At least Spacey's character had some decency. The film is very evil and dark but should be watched for Spacey's performance. Other than that, the film is very mediocre.

Summary: A Beauty of a Film
Review: Winner for best picture, best actor, best original screenplay, and best director, were all deserved. Terrific movie with an excellent cast what more can you ask for. Kevin Spacey plays a typical father of a typical teen-age daughter and a not so typical wife, who goes through a serious mid-life crisis after meeting his daughter's friend. Spacey is stuck is a solid job and his home life is just as redundant. This never stops being completely brilliant and provocative. So many twists and turns leave you thinking and wanting more. Too bad the ending just dies on you. Still a worth while venture and well worth your money, so please see this splendid film.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: There is only one word to describe this film: BEAUTIFUL.

So start to LOOK CLOSER and care about the right things.

WOW, Kevin Spacey is the man! I just wanted to jump into the screen and give him a big hug.

I also highly recommend it's score, it's beautiful as well.

Definitely a film worth of every Oscar it got!

Summary: You are in fact the responsible man for your life
Review: K: the man by Kevin Spacey, D: his daughter, W: his wife, G: the girl friend of D, N: the young neighbor, F: N's father

Everyone in this movie changed a lot from the beginning. Each of them at first began to be boring with his own life. All of them wanted to be very different. K wanted to be more successful in emotion. W wanted to be more successful in her job. D wanted to be more free. N wanted to touch more beauty. F wanted his son to be better. They changed. I think it is good to change. But they are not successful indeed. K was more energetic and he seemed to be more satisfied. but in the end, he found everything is delusion. He found that he neglected th beauty of surrounding but try to seek beauty he was never good at seeking. D is a girl finally becoming brave. But she is too young about freedom and she had to return home to see her father dying. She must regret. G is interesting. Just as N said, she always tried not to be an ordinary lady. Was she ordinary? Everyone is extraordinary. N is a thoughtful youth. Though he caused trouble, he was very active and brave to find beauty and seek his own style of life.

Summary: This movie, like if it was a turd, it like be the same thing
Review: Where do I begain. This movie is really BAD!!! Why does everyone like it? The whole plot is like many different movies put into one. There is nothing beautiful in it. THe girl hates her parents for some reason, and it was nice to see drugs win the day again. That was not good to make drugs help those kids out. And Spacy got killed by a gay ex-marine. What did that have to do with the rest of the movie. And I almost busted out laughing when the most beautiful thing that guy filmed was a plastic bag flying around in the wind. WOOPTY-FREAKEN-DO!!!!!!! I just must not see the wonderful things in this movie. And if there are wonderful things in this movie, I don't want to know them. Please people don't waste your time.

Summary: Oscar finally gets it right...
Review: There's something special about "American Beauty" that's hard to pinpoint. I don't think I've ever seen a film with such a great ensemble of actors - everyone is perfectly cast, from Kevin Spacey's eerily lovable Lester, to Annette Bening's loopy real-estate broker Carolyn, to Thora Birch's hauntingly disenchanted Jane. And the Fitts family...whew. Don't even want to go there.

It's one of many films lately dealing with the disparity between appearances and their underlying realities. Lester's abrupt break with his superficial world is refreshing, and the chaotic circumstances that evolve from it are both provocative and entertaining. I think that, along with "Fight Club," "American Beauty" is the best of them all. The beautiful cinematography, outstanding percussion-centered score, precise and evocative *original* screenplay, and above all first-rate acting make this movie stand above all the others. Thinking about the fact that this is Sam Mendes' first film, and Alan Ball's first screenplay, gives me hope for the future of film in America. Not every movie has to leave you nauseous.

Summary: Comedic? Beauty
Review: I saw this movie shortly after it came out with my father. A 16 year old daughter watching this with her early forties dad was a little uncomfortable at first, but not terribly. We're both mature movie goers, which helped. This movie portrays life as it really is for certain people's worlds. The problems the characters face are extremely common, yet not stereotpyed to the point where we are annoyed. I've heard some people comment on the characters being underdeveloped, but I perceived the opposite. I felt I knew them inside and out, and could put myself in any of their shoes at any moment. Amusement, disgust, fear, and pity are just a few of the emotions brought out by this fulfilling cast. If you are not comfortable with mature situations, this movie is not for you!

Summary: The best movie I have seen in years!
Review: This movie is not for everyone, but I loved it. The story is very interesting, about a man who breaks free and becomes someone he perhaps never had the courage to be. I loved the way that it made even the small things such as a plastic bag seem lovely.
