Summary: Please explain!!!
Review: I feel compelled to ask everyone that I know to rent this dvd. It's not because I recommend it, but because I need someone to explain it. My husband watched it with me and the only reason we didn't shut it off after the first 1/2 hour is because we thought it would get better or perhaps we would start to figure it out. Well, neither of the two happened. I was very confused as was my husband. I am a big fan of "thrillers" but this one was way out there. If anyone understood it please explain.

Summary: Excellent movie, [bad] dvd
Review: For starters, I'll try to give my word without spoiling any of it. The first time I saw Mulholland Dr. I was left with a little bit of perplexity and disappointment. I gave it another meticulous viewing and was amazed at the things that escaped my understanding the first time. Believe me, almost everything in this movie fits perfectly with the plot, and everything is important. If you didn't liked it is probably because you didn't understand it. Give it another try as I did, and believe me, you'll love it when you come to understand it. I gave this a 4 star instead of 5 because of the poor disc features (or lack of for that matter). No chapter selection (at Lynch's request), but an amazing transfer and sound (DTS and DD). If you need any hints or you absolutely want to spoil the fun and be told everything you can find an explanation of the movie online or e-mail me and I'll try my best. HINT: The movie is in chronological order (so don't try Memento-ing it)you just need to watch closely at every little deatil and just watch everything unfold.

BTW- A little bit of advise, if you're planning on buying it, wait a little longer, who knows, maybe we'll get a special edition later on.

Summary: Still with me a week later!
Review: How many films can one say were still in their head a week after first seeing it? This one was a joy to watch! I've viewed it 4 times this past week. I'm amazed at the number of ("highly educated", as one reviewer put it) people who are dismissing this film as nonsensical, pretentious, etc. Do these reviewers have two operating synapses?? (I guess that's who direct-to-video-Movie-of-the-Week releases are marketed for.) For the clueless who have to have a synopsis of the plot, reviewer Anthony R Faust did an excellent job. (I'm glad I didn't read his summary until this morning!) For those who want to be delightfully surprised, skip the explanatory reviews and rent/buy/borrow/steal this DVD and plan to put aside at least 5 hours for two viewings of it. It's clear why Lynch didn't want chapter stops put into the DVD version (although it'd be fun to scramble the scenes around to their "correct" chronological order) so I don't see why all the whining about that. Thank God there aren't too many films like this, or I'd be spending most my life in front of the TV!

Summary: What a ride!!!!!!
Review: Wow! I couldn't believe this film! I was getting tired of the smae old movies with the same old boring plots. Then this! I must say the first time I saw it I thought "What the heck was that"?!? But trust me this is one to see over and over again! David Lynch has again proven that he is an awesome movie maker!

Summary: a work of art
Review: There are no chapter stops because the film should be seen as a whole. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a work of art.
Many have tried to "solve" the puzzle of Mulholland Drive. Some feel they have. It has been a couple of weeks since I first saw this movie and I'm still thinking about it. I enjoyed it even more the second time.

This movie is to be experienced! Naomi Watts is fantastic.
The supportive characters are classic David Lynch.
Open your mind to a refreshing thriller that doesn't do all the work for you and understand that there will be many things that will qualify as "loose ends".

Summary: Short Changed!
Review: This movie was an extreme disappointment. David Lynch created an initial story line that was near film greatness. A wierd, lush, wonderfully dreamy Val Gal version of "The Player." After all the buildup, we have to watch Lynch pour gasoline on this beauty and deconstruct it into something so awful and cheesy. I don't think TV is that bad any more. But even that could have been acceptable IF there hadn't been so many 2001 movies that had the same concepts. Amelie, Moulin Rouge, Momento, and Donnie Darko all created their own strange dreamy worlds, and no matter how successfull or unsuccessfull they were, at least their creators had the guts to see their vision to the end. David Lynch couldn't even do that much. I believe this man needs guidelines and restrictions to channel his visions. Without them his ideas degenerate into films that include everything but the kitchen sink.

But OOHHH how gorgeous it is until the last hour! Naomi Watts is wonderful and worth wading thru the mess. Her two audition scenes are jewel like in their perfection. Her highly charged sexual scene with Chad Everett was Hollywood sleazy and her Thunderbolt glances with Justin Thoreaux were touchingly tender. More longing and heat were generated in her wordless scene with Thoreaux then with any of the lesbian scenes that follow.

Then the film turns into another story that seems to be shoehorned onto the original. Lynch didn't even make an attempt to hold his narrative.

I won't even discuss the storyline. Lynch ultimately betrays what he setups with a TV cheesy explanation. This was supposed to be a protest against ABC? They were right to turn down this murky mess.

Summary: See what you think.
Review: I am a huge fan of imagery and surealism. However, this film wore down my patience. There is no way to ever completely understand a Lynch film. The enjoyment in his work comes from mood and intrigue. Mulholland drive did not have nearly enough intrigue to compensate for the lack of logic. Scenes were strung together in a frusterating order. I kept anticipating some funtctional link tying previous scenes together. But as the movie went on, all the audience is treated to is mindless vignettes that only confuse the plot until the only sensible explanation to what you are watching, is that Lynch wrote the script after waking up from a dream. A very tedious dream at that.

Summary: Confusing is not the same as artistic...
Review: That's what most people wrongly believe. This movie will truly confuse your true self. There were some smart reviewers before me who taught they had the answer to what the movie acually was about. Well, in my opinion, the meaning of this movie all depends on one's own perception. There is no definitive answer to it, period. Ok, it's true that I rented this Dvd and I saw it only once; but I have better things to do in my life than watching a two and a half movie for five times in order to figure out what the plot really is about.

The plus points of this movie are undeniably the great performances of the two lead actresses, especially the blonde one. The movie also creates a certain atmospheric feel which will keep somehow keep you interested even if you'll not figure out what the hell is going on. These three positive factors explain the three stars.

The negative points are that the movie is confusing, way too long, and there are no absolutely any interesting special features on the Dvd. My opinion is that you watch "Memento" instead of this. That is one true, artistic, original movie...

Summary: Don't buy this movie unless you are SURE you want it
Review: Not for everyone, Lynch's latest film is an amazing exploration of lost dreams and distorted realities. Thank god there are still film makers out there who are creating art instead of just Cosco-style films like "Spiderman". Okay, so it's an art film with a hot lesbian sex scene.

But remember, much great art is controversial - hated by as many people as it is revered by. Don't buy MD on a whim as it is not an easy movie to absorb. You will need to watch it twice at a minumum.

Note to an earlier reviewer who complained about the lack of chapter stops: Unfortanately Lynch requires that with his movies. I find it very annoying as well. Lynch and Kubrik are the greatest directors to put out [junk]DVDs. :-)

Summary: great movie...not so great dvd
Review: This is the ultimate in mind-screwing movies! This film blew me away, and is one of the few recently released movies that I've seen that actually keeps me thinking and re-thinking every detail of the film. The four stars are only because the dvd has no extra features to speak of, and believe me, you'll want more after viewing this movie! Beware: Those who need nice-tidy-no-loose-end stories will not find it here. However, those with a twisted sense of adventure...
