Summary: One of the Coen's Better movies
Review: I have seen all of the Coen's movies except Raising Arizona. My personal favourite is Barton Fink, with The Big Lebowski close behind. Right now, The Hudsucker Proxy, in my opinion is their weakest movie, eventhough it is incredible too.

O Brother Where Art Thou is one of their better efforts.

The as-usually-marvelous script is accompied by an amazing set of visuals. Roger Deakins, whose credits include some other Coen movies and The Shawshank Redemption. He has a great talent, and I hope that he is not forgotten when such movies are mentioned.

I used to hate George Clooney. Before this movie I would always remember him as the man who finally destroyed Batman. But I have come to like him, thanks to his great preformance. Other cast members include John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, John Goodman and Holly Hunter (all of these people have acted in at least one Coen movie). All of them show us their great talent, but it's Clooney who really shines.

The music is great. I already have the soundtrack. I love to just put it in and start writing stuff.

Overall, this is another great movie from the Coen's. Along with Dr. T and the Woman and Vizontele (a beautiful turkish movie, which has a kind of Coeny feel) and Herkes Kendi Evinde (another good Turkish movie) this is the best movie of the season.

Prefer this to Pearl Harbor anyday, anytime, anywhere.

Summary: Men of constant sorrow...
Review: A terrific, but extremely weird movie. Only the Coen brothers could conceive of re-staging Homer's Odyssey in the deep south (complete with a couple of foxy Sirens and John Goodman as an evangelical Cyclops), mixing it up with with a gang of pea-brained runaway criminals, the legend of Robert Johnson, some cross-burning, a weird guy with a dog, a local election and a totally impromptu - not to mention utterly gratuitous - cow-poke country song performance, which the whole film then proceeds to snag itself upon - or congeal around really - and still come up with a thorougly delightful picture. George Clooney isn't even slightly irritating, and the Soggy Bottom Boys' "Man of Constant Sorrow" has made instant bluegrass fans out of more people I know than probability would dictate.

Summary: Anyone else having trouble with the dvd?
Review: I just wondered if anyone else was noticing glitches with their dvd of Oh Brother? I have had trouble with jumping chapters and rewinding or fast forwarding parts. At times the picture will totally freeze and I have to turn off the power and turn it back on to get out of it. Also the voice track has gotten out of sync with the picture on at least 2 occasions when jumping around in the movie. Lastly, when the layer change occurs, I get a streak of color running through the picture. One of the worst layer changes I have encountered. As for the movie, ( and a couple of plot moments will be mentioned if you wish to stop reading now) I ,like a previous reviewer, really hated Fargo, but Raising Arizona and Big Lewbowksi are two of my favorite comedies ever. This one is not as funny as either of those, but is not that far behind. Defintely merits repeat viewings. I do have a problem with the treatment of animals in the movie, especially given how the sorrier element in the world we live in now tries to emulate everything they see ( note MTV's Jackass!). My other big point with the movie, I cannot figure out why Clooney's character would just sit there asking questions after seeing Goodman's character hit Delmar with a stick and approach him with the stick raised!! Overall I STRONGLY recommend the film, but if these glitches are existent in a majority of the discs, maybe the studio needs to reissue the film.

Summary: See this, if, like me, you are selective about movies
Review: I congratulated myself on going to see this film, which was rewarding on intellectual, emotional and artistic levels. It was enlightening to see that George Clooney is much, much more than a pretty face. The gorgeous sepia tones in which the movie is shot and the fabulous music would have made it worth seeing, even had it not been such a well-crafted movie in which all the parts hold together well.

Summary: dvd is duel layered?
Review: I already wrote a reveiw detailing how good this movie was. This is to the person who says there is a glitch in the dvd. All dvd are duel lawyered now expect for maybe a couple like good fella's which is a flipper, this means that the movie will breifly pause at one scene in the film to pick up the other layer, This may not be the problem you had but i just thought it something you might like to know. The scene is in the last 20 minutes of the movie on my dvd. This is great considering a few years ago you had to flip the disc over halfway thourgh the movie. The only dvd now that I know is like this is goodfellas.

Summary: Great fun!
Review: For some reason, the previews for this movie did not make me want to run out and see it. It wasn't until I heard raves about the soundtrack that I thought it would be worth checking out the video. What a wonderful surprise! Just an absolutely terrific movie! We watched it last night and had to watch it again today -- even funnier the second time around. Tim Blake Nelson absolutely should have won Best Supporting Actor. I am probably going to have to buy the video -- something I almost never do -- but this is one that will be fun to watch again and again.

BTW -- the music is as wonderful as I've heard. I am not particularly a blue grass fan, but I may be now! I'm just not sure whether to buy the sound track or the movie first!

Summary: Loved it...this movie has a lot going for it...
Review: This movie has a lot going for it:

1) A story line loosely based on Homer's Odyssey...as good now as it was thousands of years ago. This adaptation is a lot more interesting...filled with humor, adventure, sorrow and suffering in the dirt-poor 1930's of Missippi instead of the Agean.

2) Good music...I don't know what the genre is exactly...hillbilly? country? blues? I guess it doesn't matter, the vocal harmonies are great, the guitar playing reminiscient of Robert Johnson blues, and the lyrics so alternately mournful and optimistic to be funny.

3) Good acting....George Clooney is great in one of his best roles, John Goodman makes a great Cyclops, and the other supporting actors and actresses are all great.

4) Good directing...the Coen brothers are a great writing/producing/directing team. My only caution with them is that some of their works are sometimes a little...hmm...odd. This movie is just great, not odd, but unique, well-written, well-shot.

What can I say, I loved this movie.

Summary: Brother it art here!
Review: While this movie is definitely not for the kids, it's a great movie. Never a dull moment! George Clooney at his unexpected best. You won't regret spending two hours to watch this flick. Got a hairnet?

Summary: Excellent!
Review: You just gotta love a movie that can make a KKK rally so ridiculous. For me, the "dancing Klansmen" was one of the funniest scenes in the movie. And, even better than that was George Clooney's excellent performance.
