Review: Okay, I have not seen this movie, but as I sat here reading these reviews, I see how much people are complaining about the quality of the DVD...get used to it...older movies that have not been carefully archived are going to look bad. I have for the last year and a half been doing digital transfers and you can only work with the quality you are given. If the original is bad, than the subsequent copies will be the same.

Review: This movie was very graphic it's take you into pegan, rome in the time of Culigula Ceaser. This man was ruthless a pimp in his own time putting senators wife to work for him and his own. This man had no respect for any one he was even in love with his own sister. It's worth checking out

Review: I see that a couple of reviews of the dvd people were complaining about the quality of the dvd picture aND SOUND... WELL.. SINCE i DO qc AT THE COMPANY THAT REMASTERED IT.. i'M SAD TO SAY THAT DIGITAL REMASTERING CAN ONLY BE AS GOOD AS THE DIGIBETAS THEY COME FROM.. sorry about the caps.. but the film was huge.. they aded the hour long behind the scenes.. this makes for bad compression.. sorry... blame the folks at image ent. for a bad tape.. but it looks like it did when it came out... bad...

Summary: Caligula unrated
Review: I had always heard that this was a really good movie so when I saw it coming available on dvd I got it. The film is very well made, with fine performances by the actors, but it nearly blew me away. I got the unrated version, figuring they cut out graphic violence and excessive nudity in the r rated. It is full of hardcore graphic sex acts of all types, including homo sexuality. I do wish that I had gotten the r rated version, then maybe I wouldn't be to embarrassed to watch it with anyone else. It will definitly be put up from the wrong eyes. Wow!

Summary: Great Acting by Malcom McDowell
Review: The acting from McDoewl was great! He is a very good actor. The movie, even though gross, it is historically acurate. If you want to critize something, critize the Romans. Penthouse only portrayed the Roamns as they were, and may I ad they did an excellent job at it. The death of Caligula could have been better. The scenography is good, I could not find a single mistake. they even got the small details down pretty well. Excellent Job. without a doubt, the best thing the movie has to offer is the acting by McDowel. He should have received the oscar for that year

Summary: No big improvement but hour long "MAKING OF" is ok!
Review: If you want to buy this then here's some advise.The case sucks.It isn't in plastic but rather just cardboard & I can see this wearing out quickly.The movie quality also sucks.It's basically video quality so do yourself a favor & rent it.The only thing this has going for it is the hour long documentary which is alright but not worth the money.THEY DIDN'T EVEN INCLUDE THE TRAILER! This movie will shock the prudish & repressed so that's about all it has going for it.It isn't art like Guccione wants you to believe.It's a big budget porno which is entertaining to a point but highly over rated.REMEMBER BEFORE BUYING THAT THIS MOVIE IS A HARDCORE XXX FILM that is supposedly banned in 30 states(or so I hear)& it really surprises me that it's available here.This movie is worth a look if you can rent the video but if you can't then I guess you have no choice but to get this lousy quality dvd.Why wasn't it released on video as well?I can't figure that one out but it sure isn't worth buying a dvd player just to view this mess.Just my opinion.

Summary: Poor quality of the DVD
Review: I was more than dissapointed about the poor quality of the DVD. The result of the digital transfer is only comparable to the european PAL video of the uncut film which was available 20 years ago. The Sound seems to be a bit better than on the video, but resolution, sharpness and colours of the picture are far below average DVD standard.

Summary: Visual and sound quality not upto DVD standards
Review: The movie is well acted and the story is compelling enough although it deals with the depraved side of humanity. It illustrates the contrasting splendor and raunch that was Rome at the time. The film is beautifully done and impressive in many scenes, but the visual quality is lacking. The resolution and clarity is not what is normally expected with a DVD. Sound quality is also mediocre at best. It appears to be the same quality of a VHS movie that was made 20 years ago. Too bad... I hoped the original film quality could be preserved digitally on DVD.The featurette discussing the making of the film was interesting addition to the DVD. Unfortunately subtitles are not provided.

Summary: Well acted porno
Review: An worthy story about a decadent time. However the graphical sex, and nudity distract from what otherwise would be a good movie. I bought a copy of this, then had to destroy it. I could have saved myself the time and the money, not to mention the "mental invasion" had I noticed that Bob Guccioni and Penthouse were the producers. This movie could, and should have been filmed with more discretion, however it is obvious to me that it was an opportunity from the beginning to somehow legitimize an industry that is systematically destroying our culture. No thanks Bob. The sex in this film is explicit and real, including the orgies. This is something I would hope that our culture has risen above. But it seems some of us would leap at the chance to re-create it and sensationalize it. What's next? A murder movie with a real murder in it?

Summary: Remastered? or re-edited?
Review: I SAW this movie on the big screen 20 years ago. Now I see it is digitally re-edited... poor scene transitions and crops when not needed. The color and sound is still great, except when the sound STOPS at a bad edit. It's still watchable, but barely. I was going to put it in my "must keep", but the flimsy box is also disappointing. For the most part the acting and timing are perfect.
