Description:

Offering abundant features and more than a dash of elegance at an entry-level price, Onkyo's DV-SP301 DVD player is built to demanding audio and video specifications. It offers everything from surround sound outputs to high-resolution audio/video DACs (digital-to-analog converters) and MP3 music compatibility on homemade recordable CDs.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DV-SP301 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Component-video outputs, switchable between 480p and standard 480i, help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any set.

For audio, the player's 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters, exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry, for smooth digital to analog conversion), and Direct Digital Path wiring (which transfers the digital signal from your discs directly to the output connectors using a high-purity, heavy-duty, shielded cable) deliver clean, precise sound. If you're using an Onkyo or other advanced surround receiver, you can select a high-resolution 96 kHz output sampling frequency (for signals capable of reproducing audio frequencies as high as 48 kHz, such as complex, if inaudible, musical overtones), or choose standard 48 kHz output for other receivers.

Other connections include left/right analog-audio outputs (which can channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions) and a pair of digital-audio jacks (one each RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for routing both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround signals to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Unlike most DVD players, the DV-SP301 includes a digital-audio interconnect (coaxial only), so if you're already using a compatible receiver, you'll be truly surround-ready, right out of the box.

What's in the Box
DVD player, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, a stereo analog-audio interconnect/composite-video cable, and a coaxial digital-audio interconnect.
