Summary: Beware: Search Web For H07 and Panasonic
Review: I was happy with this DVD player for the 4 months I owned it before it stopped working. It started displaying H07 whenever I tried to play a DVD. I called Panasonic, who refused to tell me what the code meant, and they said to I needed to ship it to their repair facility and it would cost $85 to fix. It has a 1 year parts warranty, but only 90 days labor. If you search the internet for Panasonic DVD and H07, you will find that there are an astronomical number of consumers who have had thier Panasonic DVD players fail with-in months of purchase. Even though I was polite and friendly, the Panasonic service calls were at best answered by people who were pointedly unsympathetic, to outright rude. I shall never purchase another Panasonic product again. SEARCH THE NET BEFORE EVEN THINKING OF BUYING PANASONIC!

Summary: This one has the Sage/Faroudja chip too
Review: I was shopping for the Panasonic DVD RP-62 player because it has the Sage/Faroudja video chip and then I saw this changer with a $30 rebate (until 31 March, 2003). With the rebate, the RP-67 is currently less expensive than the RP-62. So I thought to myself, "What is the chance Panasonic designed and builds a different video board for this player?" Being an engineer, I realized the answer was "Slim to none." I ordered this player with the idea that I'd return it if it didn't have the FLI2200 chip. After taking the player apart, (Note to Panasonic: I didn't really open up my player; why would I do a silly thing like that and void my warranty?) I found the Sage/Faroudja FLI2200 chipset on the underside of the video board. Just like the RP-62, you won't find any indication on the box, brochures or player that they use the FLI2200 chip, but they both use it.

As far as video quality goes, AT THIS TIME the RP-67 has to be the best value in DVD players. Buy it before the rebate ends on 31 March, 2003. Of course, in a year this player will probably be obsolete, but that is just the nature of electronics.

Summary: A Solid Player With A Few Drawbacks
Review: I will try to keep this short. The audio and video quality on this player are very good. I have not had issues playing any type of DVDs out there, so don't worry about that. Sometimes the layer changes on this player can be a bit long, but it is livable. The biggest problem with the CP67 is speed. It takes FOREVER to change a disc and then have it read it. While playing CDs, it sounds just fine on my $2k+ system but it is annoyingly slow and the lack of automatic sequential play is just a mistake. Next time I will buy a more expensive player, but not until this one dies. Afterall, it does do a awesome job, it just does it slowly. For the price, this is probably the best progressive changer you can get.

Summary: Horrible remote, front panel controls, and manual
Review: I've owned dozens of audio/visual products and remotes. This Panasonic is incredibly frustrating to use because the remote and the front panel controls are the worst I've ever seen. Nothing is intuitive and the play/stop/rewind/forward buttons on the remote are about the size of grains of rice and are difficult to find among the sea of buttons on the remote. The play/stop/rewind/forward buttons the ones used 90% of the time -- make the bloody things larger than the others and easy to find. The remote isn't backlit either, and to activate the buttons you've got to mash them ALL the way down.

Changing discs is a pain, too. Sometimes it just doesn't want to, no matter what you do with the remote. Changing DVDs at the unit is maddening, too. I'd go into it, but I'd be writing all day. Oh, the manual is horrible, too.

That being said, once you get the ...thing playing the disc you want it to, the picture and sound quality is really good.

Summary: problem with inifinifilm dvds
Review: Only complaint I have is that the player has an issue with Infinifilm DVD's. Whether you turn on or off the option to have the Infinifilm interactive subtitle appear while you're watching the movie, the player will not allow you scan forward/reverse or pause during the few seconds of this. I've tested it with Goldmember and 13 Days. This problem does not affect any other aspect of the DVD such as picture or audio quality. It's a minor issue that affects very few discs, but Panasonic should address it nonethless in future players, seeing as more and more DVD's are becoming interactive.

480p component video output looks very clean (I have it hooked up to a Panasonic CT-30WX52 television). The extra cinema effects aren't really noticeable in my opinion, but may be moreso on regular non-HDTV televisions or 480i.

Audio is superb as well. The dialogue enhancer is a nice way to boost the center channel, but again, not a major feature if you have the right audio equipment to compensate for this.

Summary: VCD features of Panasonic CP-67k
Review: So far, this is my first DVD player. I haven't really had a chance to play any DVD's on it and from the reviews, the DVD side looks good. But from the VCD side of it, I think the video quality is not there. Opposed to playing the VCD on my computer and outputting it to the TV via my VGA RCA/SVideo port, the VCD quality way surpasses the DVD player. Also noticed that when playing VCD's, alot of functionality on the DVD player's menu does not seem to work even tho the manual says it should. Also, cannot turn off that PBC mode when playing VCD's which may be the reason why alot of functions do not work in some menus. The video quality of the regular VCD's seems to be zoomed in somewhat. Video output to TV from PC, I can see the subtitles okay in the correct position, but when viewing video output from the DVD player, the subs are almost falling off the bottom of the screen. Picture also looks blotchy at times. I think it may have to do with the 4:3 pan and scan mode. I cannot seem to get the 4:3 letterbox mode to work correctly as it is currently set to that so I can see the screen letterbox mode which is what it looks like when outputing from computer screen. So I will give VCD quality playback a poor to average rating. I am going to Fry's to see if they have the Panasonic CP85F model which from what I saw from Panasonic website, it has all the same basic features of the CP67k except that the CP85F has high speed smooth searching functions, Kodak Jpeg CD support, and the 4:3/16:9 zoom modes are not in fixed mode. It is user zoom selectable. Hope this would fix this weird VCD zoomed in appearance problem I am seeing with the CP76k model. Retail price for the CP85f is cheaper than the CP67k so I will be swapping players soon if that is the case.

Summary: average changer, but it will die
Review: this changer died a month out of warranty. it displays a "H07" error code which Panasonic says will cost $85 to repair. I can choose from dozens of single-disc players with the same or more features than this unit. google for "panasonic dvd-cp67 h07" and you'll get lots of hits. mine's going in the trash. avoid Panasonic DVD players. I have a Panasonic TV set that works fine, but their DVD players are worthless.

Summary: Bargain, great picture, annoying remote
Review: This is a great bargain, has good features, and a perfect Progressive-Scan picture. The remote control is irritating: very poorly organized, and with the important keys buried in amongst the rarely-used ones.

Summary: Adequate - but does a human use it?
Review: This is an overall excellent DVD/CD player with a microthin profile. Picture is tight on my 27" WEGA with RCA out. The 5 disc changer is easy to understand and change. There's plenty of audiophile stats and reviews to see the plus/minuses of this unit. My biggest issue is that it lags in the eject and switch discs; there are some buffer overruns making some movie watching pause. But mostly, I'm dumbfounded with the ridiculously small remote control layout. I guess Panasonic assumes you have a unviersal remote.
