Summary: Do Not be fooled by the under $200 Price tag
Review: I recently bought one of the other under $200 DVD players from Amazon and was very disappointed in it. SO I sent it back and back and began shopping for a replacement. It was then that I came upon this player. I saw the price tag as was a little uncertain, but that quickly went away when I got this player home. It hooks up easy. Has great sound and picture. My friend has a $600 RCA DVD player and this one BLOWS it away! Believe me, buy this and you will not be disappointed. More then worth the money.

Summary: A great value player may suffer from fatal power
Review: The Konka player manufanctured by one of china's major TVmakers, boasts notable quality for the price. Aside from the slick silver styling, the 1800U is a fairly typical bottom-end DVD player. One major bonus not found on other inexpensive DVDs is both kinds of digital outputs, optical and coaxial. There's no DTS decoding, however. Despite the low price this unit is equiped with features that you only see on the more expensive units (S-video, multi angle options, etc.). One of the player's great strengths is its ability to play CD/VCD/CD-R The DD 5.1 seems right on target, but it is not DTS compatiple. BEWARE: After asking friends and people at work, I have come to question its initial performance. It seems some players have been equiped with a 300MA fuse which blows easily instead of a 350MA one. I found that the first batch of units had a power supply problem where the player would suddenly stop working, usually with a DVD in it. Konka USA will replace those units free of charge, or you can fix it yourself by replacing and power supply fuse with correct type. Regardless of the fuse, the unit generates a lot of heat. But it seams like the units on sale by Amazon are new enough that the problem has been fixed. I price is an issue and you are not sure about buying a DVD player from an unknown manufacture, try some by Phillips or RCA. Otherwise, spend an extra [money] to get a reliable player. Summary: Only plays 50% of all DVDs
Review: Most frustrating experiences with this DVD player. I do the same thing with any DVD disc. Open the player, insert the DVD and then this *** machine decides whether to read it or not. If it decides not then I get an "invalid operation" report on the top left of the screen. It makes no sense. For instance on The West Wing Series 2, it played the first and second side of Disc 1 but it refuses to read and play either side of Disc 2. I have gone to the extent of playing these rejected discs on another DVD player and they play fine. Can anyone help or is this a lost cause?

Summary: Big problem with thid DVD player
Review: This DVD player is capable to read only half of DVD's in the market place. Is a firmware exist to correct that situation? I don't know... In many cases this Konka DVD player will stop to read a DVD in some parts of a film... But when it's working images are very good... Meanwhile, it should be always good to read DVD's...

Summary: Worst Purchase Ever Made
Review: I'm rather serious when I say this is possibly the worst purchase I ever transacted. Every other dvd player I've come in contact with has far surpassed this ... machine, which has given me three-something years of agony and rage. Its response from the remote control is relatively long, it freezes up on some of my dvd's, screws up on reading the disc if I use fast foward or rewind, and is incredibly slow. When I first bough this, I wasn't expecting anything great, but at the same time, I did not expect for it to be of such low quality. I give Konka the Black Mark when it comes to this product.

Summary: Looking for a quality machine? Not this one!
Review: I had high hopes for this machine, but it locks up during EVERY movie we watch. It's O.K. for a CD player, but it's been a total disappointment for watching DVDs. When we bought the player, the Matrix was the movie to test the player, specifically the elevator scene--no problem there, but on Disney's The Emperor's New Groove, it locks up every time! It locks up on dialogue scenes, too!
The nice appearance is totally negated by its lack of performace. Forget all the features most DVDs have--the player will lock up and you'll have to power down, wait for about 2 minutes, turn it on again, and cross your fingers that this time you'll be able to finish the movie!
The "POP" it makes through my amp when I turn it on is so loud that we jump every time.
What a piece of junk!

Summary: problem dvd player
Review: I had bought this gift for my brother and his family for the holiday's of 2000. I had to buy another one to replace this one. The dvd skips on brand new dvd's, freeze's up and eject's when playing. It started just as they pluged it in. Problem's from the beginning. I would never buy a konika product ever again for if their products are like this who would ever want a problem. Plus no one in the metro New York area has ever heard of this company. Not any of the electronic appliance store's and mega electronic stores.

Summary: Great Player for the Money
Review: I got this DVD player 1 year ago for Christmas.
I had researched for 2 months.. what DVD player I wanted to get.
I wanted the best for the money. Without spending alot.
I decided on this dvd player and mentioned it to my wife.
Then for Christmas she gave it to me. I've had a couple problems.. as has been mentioned before.
Slow remote responses... picture freezing when I turn the volume up on my received (perhaps another remote related problem).. But all in all. I love this DVD player. The styling of it is amazing. I love the look of it. I just bought a new silver TV and it looks great with the dvd player. Sound and picture reproduction is perfect.
I havn't had a problem with the loudness of the drive mechanism.
I do wish it had component video out.. but S-Video works great. One year ago.. I'd recommend this player to anyone.
It was the best for the money.
But now.. there are lot's of DVD players in this price range.
So I'd do a little research first.
But if you do get this unit... you'll be pleased with it.
