Rating: Summary: Piece of Crap Review: I bought this unit even though there were warnings that the remote control features were slow. They were very slow and if you push two buttons back to back the machine would crap out and you would need to turn it off and back on to get it to work again. Now the machine has died all together and it has only been three months. I am trying to get my money back now.
Rating: Summary: not so new on the market Review: If this company sounds new to you let me ease your doubts (KONKA) is a very old and well established company, the larger companies that your more familiar with i.e. sony, panasonic, mitsubishi,yamaha... have all been using this chinese based corporation as a subcontractor for many years. so in essence you've been buying their products all along you just did'nt know it. since this companies name is so new to u.s. customers their marketing stratgies are to under bid the larger more recognisable corporations. this my friends will not last long as soon as it becomes a little more recogniseable you can be sure you will be jumping through hoops for their products.
Rating: Summary: Loud! Review: Overall the component performs as advertised. Great image, good looking, and cheap. Issues are with the remote control, which others have covered and is easy to become accustomed with, and the obnoxiously loud drive motor sound. Only one other reviewer mentioned the sound on this machine, which leads me to believe it may be a random flaw. I plan on returning the item but giving it one more shot.
Rating: Summary: Bummed out! Review: I wanted just a basic DVD player, but this is a little too basic for me ... even at that does not work really well at several critical junctures. It takes a long time to load and read a new DVD or CD and does not always respond to commands. I have even had to unplug it and turn it on again to get it to eject a DVD it did not want to play. Its' lack of a component output is a real bummer, too! Slow motion is jerky and sometimes does not work at all. I plan to give it away and get a (hopefully) much better player soon.
Rating: Summary: Great price, great player Review: I got this player just over five months ago now and it's still going strong. Not exactly feature heavy, but at <($), what do you expect? Mine may be a slightly different model than the one reviewed here by amazon.com, because mine does have DTS and what sounds like a totally different remote control (same product number, though). Anyway, there are some minor problems with this player that I've experienced. It doesn't seem to like my TV remote, because if I use it too much while watching a DVD, the picture freezes (but the sound continues) and I have to turn of the player completely. Also the remote can be slow to respond. Niether one of these is a big deal to me (I guess I'm pretty patient), but these minor issues might bug another person. The bottom line is, this is a great player, and if you want home theater on a tight budget, this is definately worth a look!
Rating: Summary: BE CAREFUL Review: I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY 76 YEAR OLD MOTHER WHICH MEANT THAT I HAD TO SET UP THE SYSTEM. SINCE SHE HAD AN OLDER TV, I HAD TO RUN THE CONNECTION VIA AN EVEN OLDER VCR. FORGET IT. I ENDED UP BUYING HER A NEW TV/VCR 25" COMBO TO ACCOMMODATE THE DVD. WORKS WELL AFTER ALL THE ASSOCIATED PURCHASES.MY PET PEEVE - AND IT IS EXEMPLIFIED WITH THIS UNIT - IS POOR MANUAL DIAGRAMS AND EVEN WORSE WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS. WITH THIS UNIT, IT'S WORSE THAN POOR. THESE COMPANIES WOULD BE WELL ADVISED TO HIRE ENGLISH GRADS TO REDO ALL THEIR OWNERS MANUALS. INSTRUCTIONS ARE POOR - POOR - POOR - HAIR PULLING TERRIBLE.
Rating: Summary: Happy with first DVD player Review: I purcahsed this DVD player after browsing through reveiws and prices...I wanted a DVD player and didn't want to spend a lot of money and that's what I got. The set up was easy. I hooked it up to my older stereo equipment with out a problem. I watch a lot of DVDs on this player and so far everything has been okay. My only complaint is that the directions were only in French. The remote is tempremental. It doesn't always respondthe first time. I've had to figure out how it works on my own because I don't speak French. A couple of times while watching foreign films, the subtitles will catch on a scene and the movie will keep playing. That's happened twice.
Rating: Summary: Konka DVD Player Review: Drive motor noise is unacceptable. I returned my unit. I didn't bother to find out whether this is a model problem or a unit problem.
Rating: Summary: excellant choice for entry level player Review: So far I haven't had any problems with this dvd player. Easy to set up and use. Besides dvd's, I've tried various cd-r's on this unit without significant difficulties. I haven't had any problems with the remote control. I've also been able to keep my vcr connected to the television at the same time as this dvd player which makes it convenient for times when I want to play vhs tapes. If you just want a basic dvd player that will play a variety of formats, then buy this one.
Rating: Summary: Easy to get video/audio out of sync, strange controls Review: The problem with this player is it is easy to get video and audio out of sync when searching within chapters. The only solution is to power down. Additionally, the controls are very nonstandard compared to other DVD players, especially for moving within and between chapters. Clearly a first-generation product from an inexperienced company - spend $20-$30 more and get the low-end player from a major manufacturer.
