Rating: Summary: A great entry-level DVD player Review: I've had my Toshiba SD2700 DVD player for several weeks now. I hooked it up to my 7 year old 27" Panasonic TV using the S video connection. The picture is absolutely stunning!! It breathed new life into my opinion of my TV. I also tried a Panasonic DVD player before getting the Toshiba, but liked the remote control and user interface much better on the Toshiba. I haven't really had a chance to evaluate the sound (for movies any way) as I don't have a surround sound setup at home. And with 2 little one's at home, most of my listening is through headphones. However, the N-2-2 technology does seem to provide a sense of surround sound even in the headphones. This is a great player for the money!!
Rating: Summary: Unless you own a sound studio..... Review: ...there would be no reason to spend more on a DVD machine than this. The Toshiba units have always been top-notch, with great reliability and connectivity (as in stereo and TV connections). This one certainly adds some wonderful features, like being able to play any type of video or audio disc on the market today, and having a host of fun effects like multi-zoom for playback. Nevermind the hype you've read by the know-it-alls about the remote being confusing; it's a simple and powerful unit and I'll bet nobody will be disappointed to find this machine under their tree!
Rating: Summary: Sounds quite unreliable, regardless of features Review: Interesting to note that the vast majority of people who give this DVD player excellent reviews "just got it," while multiple people seem to have problems after 3 months. Given that the thing only has a 90 warranty on labor costs (coincidence?), I can't imagine buying this.
Rating: Summary: Excellent 1st time DVD player Review: This was my first DVD player and I love it. Simple to connect and operate. I highly recommend it.Remote control could have glow in the dark buttons, but other than that..no problems.
Rating: Summary: unable to review Review: since this item is apparently available for shipping only within the US, I am unable to order it, even though it sounded like just what I was looking ofr.
Rating: Summary: Good but Quirky Remote Control Review: For the most part I am happy with this DVD player. The remote control is a bit quirky (player does not always respond right away when a button is pressed). Also, I have had a few rental DVDs that would get an error and stop playing mid-movie. My PC's DVD drive was able to play the same movie just fine.
Rating: Summary: HDCD incompatibility Review: This DVD player has trouble playing HDCDs. I returned the unit back to the store where i purchased it and got a replacement unit, but still the second unit suffers the same problem. I was told by Toshiba to bring the unit to one of the authorized warranty service center to have the BIOS upgraded. i haven't done so, but those who are thinking about purchasing this particular model 2700, consider yourself be warned.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD player for a great price. Review: EXCELLENT!! Playes CDR and RW. Perfect DD and DTS sound. Both digital connections is a nice touch. Who cares about MP3 if you got CDRW??? Besides, this is a DVD player, not a CD player. IF you want to waste the $$ on MP3, get the SD2710. I don't know about dude and his 3 month problem. I've had mine 5, and it plays as if it just came out of the box. HDCD is nice, too bad all that is encoded in HDCD is country, and you have to use analog cables for the HDCD to work properly. With digital cables you get no HDCD. Overall: VERY GOOD entry level DVD player.
Rating: Summary: Toshiba SD2700 Makes me feel like a schoolboy again Review: Nothing bad to say about this DVD player. haven't used the cd-r capability, but i'm sure it works. excellent overall player. has several different picture and sound settings for particular folks and operates without having to read a manual. toshiba makes one of the best dvd players i hear and this is an incredible bargain.
Rating: Summary: Yuck Review: Over three months, this DVD player's performance has slowly eroded to the point that rental DVD's will almost never play. It is beginning to develop problems with new DVD's also. An earlier review noted these same issues. After contacting Toshiba and waiting on hold for thirty minutes, Toshiba referred me to a mom and pop repair shop. The repair shop would not look at it for a month and recommended throwing the DVD player away. $... down the drain! Yuck!!!
