Rating: Summary: Its ok Review: I just purchased this product two weeks ago. The picture looks great on my old Panasonic Tv. I don't like the fact that it does not play cd-r or cd-wr, but that is my fault for not checking into that before I purchased it. Also the remote control doesn't work that great. I have to be directly in front of the player for it to work. I thought it was the batteries, but when I put new ones in I still had the same problem. Should have purchased a Panasonic or a Sony. I'm really considering sending this product back and purchasing something else.
Rating: Summary: Terrible Experience Review: After buying this DVD player, I went to Best Buy and bought brand new DVD's-not used ones. I put the disc in and it would. not. play. Toshiba customer service (ha! I can't believe those people get paid to be so stupid) blamed it on dirty DVD's. Not the case here. I took the player back to where I bought it and exchanged it for another one. Got it home, got it hooked up (which took forever because I'm a little dense when it comes to these things), and it still would not play. Took this one back, got my money back, and am going to buy a Panasonic this time, even though I'm a little scared to because I'm having such bad experiences.
Rating: Summary: Good second DVD player Review: I purchased this as a second unit for home use and to take on vacations. I just set it up so I can't give any report on durability, just my first impressions. The picture quality is excellent. My little 13" TV has a very small speaker so I can't offer anything about sound quality. It has a very good remote, easy to use, but it controls only the DVD player and not the TV. There is a random function, favorites order and repeat options for CD playing, slo-mo, frame advance, FF, and other standard features for the TV. The on screen zoom information can be removed so you can watch the picture without having to have the zoom display remain on the screen, unlike my more expensive JVC. The remote comes with 2-AA batteries and RCA cables. The front display on the player can be dimmed or turned completely off. The player is a little wider than I expected, but otherwise it has a nice front display, and it is surprisingly light weight. It was easy to set up and use, but there isn't a cable type connection for older TVs. Radio Shack has a (not cheap) adapter, but the picture quality suffers. There are s-video and standard RCA, RCA analog audio, and component video. Although there was a warning about connecting it to a TV/VCR, it plays fine in my Memorex. The unit will not play CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RAM, or DVD-RW just video DVD and audio CDs. For my purposes it was a good choice. I'm satisfied with my purchase and recommend this DVD player. ----------OK, I've had this DVD for 5 months now. Great picture, remote is fine, easy to use, and no technical glitches with the player. I'm a satisfied consumer :-) Much easier to use than my more expensive one with progressive scan.
Rating: Summary: Fundamental flaw (so does price really matter?) Review: I bought this unit and was very happy with it for the first two months - good picture, audio, and price. However it now stops, or freezes, my movies at various times while I'm watching them(I've recently seen others complain of this too). This is very annoying as it totally disrupts the flow and atmosphere of the movie. What good are the other functions (or even the "good" price) if the unit can't perform its most basic function. This is a fundamental design flaw. Watching DVD movies is great and I highly recommend it, just don't do it on this player!
Rating: Summary: Wise purchase ! Review: My first DVD believe it or not ! If you are looking for a good DVD with basic features at a good price this is the one. The unit was delivered in a few days and it works great.
Rating: Summary: Utilitarian. Review: It's not expensive, and it performs admirably well at its appointed task, the playback of standard DVDs. It will also play audio CDs. There are composite video outs, though if you have a monitor/TV that can use these, I bet you opt for a fancier DVD player. There is a SuperVideo output for those who cannot use the composites (and RCA outs for those who cannot use either), good Dolby/DTS audio outputs for your sound system (or a simple RCA out if you're just going to play it back on a regular TV), and a few zoom levels and screen angles as well, but this is still considered a basic unit. In that, it will not disappoint.
Rating: Summary: Great product Review: This is the same player that was selling for two hundred last year. For the money this is probably the best player available. Quality is good and picture quality is great. If you are looking for a everyday dvd player, this is the one.
Rating: Summary: Great.....When it Worked!!! Review: I thought I was getting a great deal on an player that would be adequate for an average viewer, watching 1-2 movies a week. It was fantastic for the first three months, with no problems whatsoever...then on the 98th day(yes, that's right, a mere 8 days past the warranty) it simply stopped working. It refuses to turn on, and the cost of repair is more than half of the original cost of the unit. Very disappointing! Will not be purchasing anything Toshiba in the future. Strongly recommend spending a few extra bucks on a unit with at least a year warranty.
Rating: Summary: never come in 2nd Review: This is a pretty good DVD player. It has everything you want (even comes with DTS) at a price you can't beat. I'm sooo glad I bought this player. It's easy to set up and easy to use. A great first DVD player for anyone who is thinking of getting a DVD player. I wouldn't use it on my HDTV, home theater, but if you just want something simple that looks great, this is the one. Haven't had any problems with it, what can I say It's a good player. It was cool. Big Truck
Rating: Summary: Works well. Review: I've had a Toshiba SD1700 for over a year and a half now. I haven't had any problems with it. It seems fairly robust. The audio is much better than that from my Playstation 2. For the price, I'm satisfied. Please note that it doesn't play Video CDs (VCD), so if you want to use your computer to record home movies to a CD-R, you should look for a different player
