Rating: Summary: You get what you pay for and more. Review: Great dvd player to start out with! Even though I'm a man and refuse to read the direction to anything, this was the easiest to hook up.... plug it in, connect it to your vcr, press the open button, and put in a dvd.... that easy. And yes this does play vcds.... an improtant note I couldn't find anywhere....
Rating: Summary: THE BEST FOR THE MONEY Review: I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR A DVD PLAYER FOR A WHILE,AFTER LOOSING MY TEMPER TRYING TO GET ONE TO WORK(RETURNED IT),ALSO TOOK ONE BACK THAT WOULD NOT WORK WITH MY SYSTEM.THIS ONE WORKED THE VERY FIRST TIME I TRIED TO USE IT AND EVERY TIME THEREAFTER.A VERY GOOD USER FRIENDLY PRODUCT.
Rating: Summary: Unbeatable Price Review: I have been looking for a DVD Player that played MP3's and the GE 1401P was worth the wait. It's the first DVD Player I have purchased and was quite satified for the price. Plays DVD's, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3's it may not have all the features of some expensive players. Highly recommend it for people ready to move up and start to experiment with DVD Players.

Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I purchased this DVD player a few months ago. I hooked it up with no problems. I put a DVD in and it played. We have a more expensive unit in the living room, and I find this one much easier to use. You get more bang for the buck on this one. I love this player, and I recommend this player to anyone looking for good player without spending too much money.
Rating: Summary: Great at first BUT... Review: I've had this player for nearly three years now.
At first it was fantastic, good features, nice scanning, contrast, etc.
But after about the 2nd year the player has started to refuse to play certain DVDs. The disks are not damaged in anyway, are Region 1 and not imports. They also play on our other player perfectly.
Sometimes they will work, but in certain areas they will act as if scratched, with picture breakup and sometimes freezing. The player itself will even on oocasion inform us that the disk can not be played or that there is no disk, or that the disk is not valid for this region.
So while it was great value for money at first, the longevity is somewhat limited. Since its discontinued now, I suppose it doesn't really matter too much, but now I have to find a new player :o(
Rating: Summary: Good For Me Review: Okay, I recently bought this DVD player and it is my first one, so I don't really have any expertise in the area, but I will tell you what I like about it. First of all, it's super easy to use. I took it out of the box, plugged it in and connected it to my TV, popped in a DVD and it was actually working! And believe me, that's a HUGE triumph (I'm one of those people who can't even set the clock on the VCR). It was very easy to set up and get going; very easy to use and pretty much self explanatory. There aren't too many buttons or gagets to deal with. Of couse the player came with a huge instructional book which I haven't read and don't intend to actually, unless I have any problems with it. So far, so good. It plays exceptionally well; I've been renting DVDs and like you can guess, they are usually pretty well worn, but this machine plays them perfectly, no skips or anything. And of course, the sound and picture quality are beyond anything you can get with VHS. I've also been playing CDs on it pretty regularly as well, and I'm impressed with the sound quality alone--it rivals my stereo sometimes. I really don't know how this would do as part of a huge, extensive home entertainment system, that's why I marked it down one star, but for my needs (just hooked up to my TV for now) it can't be beat, especially price wise. I'm very pleased with this unit so far, and highly recommend it to someone who just wants to start small in the DVD entertainment world but doesn't want to end up with a piece of junk.
