Summary: Cheap, dependable, region-free . . . but used to be better
Review: From what I understand, the original versions of this player had secret ("accidental") options to turn off the region-codes and the copy-protection; and you could switch the voltage in the back so you could take the player to the U.K. and Japan, etc . . .

But the newer versions usually don't have all of these features. For instance, I can turn off the region coding via a secret menu, but I can't turn off the copy-block. And the firmware that certain "DVD Upgraders" modified to force this player into being copy-block free (among other cool things) is not relevant to the chip placed in most of the newer versions of this player (mine included, regrettably). Another bad thing (which the "official" amazon.com editorial review now gets wrong, although it used to be correct) is that this player no longer has an option to switch the voltage from U.S. to U.K. standards. This is really too bad, since it makes the PAL output function kinda pointless, in a way (well, unless you buy your own voltage adapter and you're taking the player with you to the U.K. to output to a PAL TV. . . in which case it's still a handy bonus). I bought this player because of the above benefits -- and because I'm moving to the U.K. next year, and maybe Australia after that, and I was hoping I could take this handy little player with me. The lack of a voltage switch in the back makes it tougher, though.

As far as I know, the region-free menu can still be found, although there are a variety of different codes you'll need to try to figure out which code will work with your player. I suggest giving this player a full google search, and include the words "region free" in your search, and you'll find a lot of cool stuff. And if you happen to have (or get) one of the slightly older models of this thing, then you'll have really great fun hacking/modifying the firmware and playing around with both the "hidden" and overt options.

All in all, though, this player has worked wonderfully for me and is nice and super-light-weight and I've never ahd a single problem with it. Great player at a great price. And the Mp3 play-back can be quirky but works pretty well (it can't display long ID3 tags, but it plays fine).

Buy this with free Amazon.com shipping and you won't find it anywhere else at a better price from a more reliable dealer. One last problem, though: I't been almost 3 motnhs since I bought this thing and I still haven't received the promised rebate. In fact, the rebate center says they never even got my rebate submission. But then, that's why dealers and suppliers love to offer rebates -- half the time customers either forget to turn them in our they forget that they did turn them in but never actually got sent the check . . . and then when you complain the "rebate center" can simply deny they ever got it. But this isn't a problem with this awesome player -- it's just a problem with rebates in general (or maybe I'm just consistently unlucky when it comes to rebates?)

Summary: Plays everything!
Review: Pros: 1) Plays everything I throw at it: DVD, VCD, SVCD, MP3, things burned from CDR. Didn't try DVD-R/W since I don't have any. 2) Plays disks with rather poor quality. Those disks that my Apex DVD player wouldn't play now work perfect in Norcent! 3)Can be made region-free (see nerd-out forum). 4) Small, and 5) [low priced]!

Cons: 1) Looks [low priced], feels [low priced]. 2) Not 220V compatible as advertised, but I don't care. With the money I paid for it, I still rate it 5-star.

Summary: It's not as what the editorial review said
Review: First, this dvd player can only use 120V 60 Hz, not 100-240V 50-60Hz as said in the editorial review. That means there's no way to use it in Europe or Asia.

Second, I think there some problems with the mp3 playing function. I've got an mp3 cd-r. When I played it with this player, in some songs, the drum sounded funny. It sounded like a box was beaten, not a drum. But when I converted that mp3 song to cd audio, I didn't hear that funny sound. So I think the mp3 playing function has problem.

Finally, this player is cheap, but there are some other players with the same functions being at this price, but I haven't got a chance to test others.

Summary: Norcent DP300 DVD Player (Silver) One Great Little Player!
Review: I bought this player recently as a present for my daughter and granddaughter because of the different formats it plays and the great reviews. Not to mention great price. I have to say I am tickled pink by it's performance. I played everything I could think of and was not disappointed. Great picture and sound! I have a Cyber Home 402 and love it, but this one has added features not on the Cyber Home. My daughter took it to class as a demonstration of DVD players and impressed the instructor enough that she's buying one also. I don't think you can beat this one for performance and price.

Summary: Unbeatable at this price point
Review: This player simply can't be beat for the price. I purchased this as a second player specifically for playing Region 2/3 and PAL DVDs. Yes, this player not only does the PAL/NTSC conversion automatically but it can be set to Region 0 (region free) via a hidden menu. It's also suprisingly small and compact, so it takes up very little shelf space. Features s-video and component video out, which is unusual for such a low priced player. I definitely recommend purchasing this player, even if you don't necessarily want it for it's "special" abilities I think it would still be a fine back-up player.

Summary: decent player, but no dual voltage / not region free
Review: I bought this DVD player because of:
1. [price]
2. It has very good user reviews: good quality, can play nearly everything, dual voltage, PAL/NTSC, may set to region free...
Well, it turns out to be that user reviews are not always true. My player supports only a single voltage, and does not allow "region free" [access]...
However, it played everything I throwed into it up to now: DVD, VCD, CD, CDR and MP3, and the picture quality is good enough for me. For [the money], it's still a good deal.

Summary: Newbie in the DVD area

Summary: Decent overall, bad MP3 decoding
Review: Got this player recently. Overall, am happy with the product.

Good:
Decent video quality (for the price)
Good audio
Nice JPEG decoding (a little slow though) with different picture transitions
Interface and remote are OK

Bad:
The only bad thing I feel is the MP3 decoding. I can't tell if its popping noise or the decoding, but the quality is bad. I can see a clear difference. I use coax digital out.

Summary: A great play all, DVD player
Review: I got this unit a few months back because it will play just about anything you put in it. In the tradition of the APEX line of products but it has a much better remote than most of those units. If you are into making VCDs and SVCDs this is great unit. The on-remote zoom is a great feature. Picture quality is a little better than average and it does not have an optical output as the editorial suggests, just one coaxial. If you are looking for a play-all, this is it.

Summary: Cheap, but not nasty...
Review: The player itself is actually very good, when you consider the price and the features, plus the ability to make it region free.
Only complaint is that it was advertised as dual voltage, (one of the reasons for my purchase), but it is not.
In summation, 4 stars for the machine, No stars for Amazon.com for misleading product details.
