Summary: Great region-free player!
Review: I bought this player mainly for it's region-free ability so I could import Region-2/PAL DVDs from Europe. It worked great right out of the box and all it took was a quick remote-sequence to unlock the region-free ability. This player plays pretty much everything I've thrown at it. You can download your favorite shows off the internet, burn them to a CD and watch them in this player.

OK, it doesn't have progressive-scan ability and the unit looks a little cheap. That's about the only knocks I have against it. For ~[this price], it's hard to complain!

Summary: A Happy little viewer
Review: I am very happy with my norcent purchase. It is an inexpensive DVD and does the job just fine in playing US DVD's, CD's Mp3's etc. I am not a video junkie, so i cannot comment on other features.

For regular viewers, A dvd is a must purchase- it gives better picture quality than a VCR or regular TV. The norcent does most of what you would expect out of a DVD- At this price, this DVD is a winner.

Summary: Runs off any voltage and plays back any region to any TV
Review: Just a note to say that this player does function fine on 220-240 volts, I have taken one overseas and it works. Just plug it in via the appropriate plug adapter, no need to convert voltage. The Amazon specs say the voltage switching is manual, but it isn't -- it's automatic.

The multi-region facility works fine too once you find the secret menu (use Google to find out where it is), and the player can output to a PAL TV as well. I've bought two of these so far and used them with TVs in different parts of the world and DVDs of several regions, everything works. I plan to buy more of these -- they really are a great bargain.

Summary: Fantastic player!
Review: Cannot beat this deal! This inexpensive (wont call it cheap, it's feature RICH!) DVD player is amazing! Made it reigon 0 with no problem. Plays EVERYTHING I throw at it.. DVD, VCD, SVCD, MPEG, MP3... if it's on a disk, it plays it!

Dont expect a super slick unit or remote for this price... I LOVE MY NORCENT!

Summary: What a Deal
Review: I kept expecting some of the peculiarities described below, but aside from noticing that the tray takes a few seconds to eject, nothing in my experience so far has altered my satisfaction with this purchase. I don't think I'm as technically savvy as some folks so I can't speak to their concerns. For my purposes (playing DVDs on a regular TV with no bells and whistles) this little machine works just fine. The image quality is better than my videos and far surpasses the picture I get on my broadcast channels. Best of all, it was $39.99-plus shipping. I'm happy.

Summary: davemac
Review: Price was (literally) too good to be true. Returned mine after first use - due to defect. The picture would become very bright and lose color every 15 or 20 seconds. Only other gripe was that there is no way to turn unit on/off via remote.

Summary: A GREAT BUY
Review: This was a great find. I needed an extra DVD player for my office, and this more then filled the bill.
For a big surround system this might not be what you want. But, if you just want to play DVD's on your TV this is a GREAT BUY. There are more bells and whistles on the more expensive models, and I have two of those. But you will probably hardly ever use those functions
It's very compact, the remote works well, and the picture and sound quality are great.
Save yourself some money, buy this one.

Summary: Norcent Decent
Review: *My screen is rolling and is black and white?
On the DVD remote there is a button called N/P, all you need to do is press this button once and it should fix the problem.
* I cannot get any picture on my TV?
Make sure that your connections are correct, that all plugs going to the DVD player are in the outputs, and the ones going to the TV are in Inputs (see below for audio connection). !!!Then go ahead and switch your TV to Video: to switch the TV to Video on your TV remote (it may have to be the original remote to the TV and not a universal) there is a button called "Input" or "Source" (TV/VIDEO, TV/AV, AV, GAME, TV/AUX, AUX). Once you find this button go ahead and press it once, it should take you right to the DVD screen.
* I cannot get any sound from my DVD player?
First make sure that you have your red and white plugs on the DVD player on audio outputs, and on your TV on audio inputs, once you have checked your connections and they are correct, and there is still no sound go ahead and resett the DVD player, to reset the DVD player press setup on the remote, go down to preferences press play, it should take you to a new menu screen, then go all that way down to defaults move the arrow to the right then press play the screen should flicker real quick once you have done this go ahead and check if you have sound.
* Universal Remote Code?
1003
*my TV has a yellow RCA video jack, but only a white audio RCA jack?
plug the yellow one in using the supplied cable, and whichever of the audio ones you want (you'll get mono sound). you might want to plug your audio into a stereo amplifier instead of the TV, to get stereo out. or, you can put both audio channels into the TV's single RCA jack (using a splitter from radio shack.)

Summary: Region Free via a hidden menu
Review: I was initially quite skeptical about the Region free claims but....with a little detective work of my own, found their claims to be true. If you're willing to tinker around a bit there's a secret menu difficult to discover but ultimately accessible hidden under...well, I don't know ecactly WHERE it is. But I do, however, have a good idea of HOW to find it.

1. Open the DVD tray and keep it open.
2. Press 8 four times.
3. Press Setup
4. Press Next

If this doesn't bring up the little menu for regions (I think the selection for regions displays 'version' rather than 'region') then I'm challenging you to figure it out for yourself. Search engines were made for such things. For starters, the msn search engine came in handy in deciphering my own DVD.

Anyway, I think this is a great, cheap little DVD for what it offers.

Summary: Almost Perfect...But It Mis-Frames Widescreen Discs!
Review: I have no problems with anything on this unit...it plays everything, including SVCD's, VCD, MP3, JPEG, is region-free hackable, etc and plays everything very well. Picture and sound quality are stellar. BUT...I noticed that it misframes ALL widescreen discs. Try this and you'll see what I mean; pause a scene then zoom OUT to "1/2". Look at that image, and then cycle back to the normal view. You'll notice that the player crops the left and right sides of the picture on widescreen movies. In my estimation you lose about 1/8 to 1/6 of the picture, depending on the aspect ratio of the movie. I tried adjusting the player's TV settings between 4:3 LB, 4:3 PS (16:9 obviously does not do it either), and I tried adjusting the other settings too, but to no avail. It was tested on multiple TV's also. It's really too bad because otherwise it's probably the single greatest DVD player value out there. However I like to see the full picture as the director intended, and this unit does not deliver that. I'm not going to watch a movie zoomed out, because WS is small enough on a square TV, I dont need black bars on top AND on the sides. Hence, I am going to return it. If they fix this bug I'd gladly get another one, but until then forget it. I would encourage anyone who has this unit to check this flaw out for themselves before (or after) getting it.
