Rating: Summary: Mom's right- you get what you pay for Review: :::GOOD::: (Like) + I have yet to have any issues with this machine. It plays very well. + It's cheap and get's the job done.:::BAD::: (Definitely do not like) - The remote batteries die almost instantly. I think there must be some capacitive leak or something. Haven't had this warrantied YET but will try. Honestly they don't last more than a day or two max. :::UGLY::: (Unexpected, but not necessarily bad) * There is no LCD display on this unit. Sure the picture doesn't show one but it was one of those things I didn't notice was gone till I went to use it. My fault. Not a huge deal. But [apparently] I like to use it more than I thought because I noticed it gone right away... "Is it playing? paused? ... oh it just takes a long time to *load*!" * No menu options without remote. This seems common with DVD players and for the life of me I can't figure out why. Ordinarily it's not a big deal but when your remote doesn't work (see: BAD), it's a real bummer. You're limited to the first menu option, which thankfully, is usually "Play." * Want optical output? Keep looking because you won't find it here. If you want cheap and aren't concerned with loads of frills- this is your machine.
Rating: Summary: Great buy Review: This is one of the only dvd players left that will play super video cds and regular vcd's due to the new firmware that is put on all the new Apex dvd players. The cost is low and the quality is high. You won't be disappointed.

The one that worked for me was : 1)Turn Power on 2)using remote open/close,setup,8,8,8,8,Next(>>|) 3)A page appears ...goto version and change the region to 0 for region free. 4)Goto to main page and you are done.....hurrrray
Rating: Summary: CUTE BUT FAULTY Review: Looks cute Ok, and has many accexxories. But IT PLAYS UP TO A POINT AND JUST STOPS. OR STOPS AND SKIPS FAR AHEAD. VERY FRUSTRATING ESPECIALLY WHEN WATCHING INTERESTING MOVIES OR LISTENING TO NICE SONGS. I wonder why, or it item not really as branc new as described? Thanks
Rating: Summary: Would give it 5 stars, but.... Review: I ordered this little DVD player for my first apartment, and it's been great so far... BUT, there are some drawbacks. First, the picture often "pops" every 10 minutes or so when you are watching a DVD. Second, there is no way to turn off the player via remote control (you mean I actually have to get up from the couch!?). Third, the player often distorts the picture, cutting off the widescreen letterbox format by just a little bit. You wouldn't notice it unless you nitpick. However, it is distracting when watching your favorite movie. There are some elements to this player though - the price, the aesthic appearance, the easy set-up and of course, it's format capabilities. I enjoy the 6 different "zoom" settings and find them useful when watching movies with subtitles. All in all, a decent player for the price, but if you're looking for long-term value, splurge a little for a brand-name player.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD player for the price ! Review: I was looking for a 2nd dvd player for my bedroom. I wasn't looking for anything fancy with lots of bells and whistles. I just wanted something simple to watch movies on occassionally. I was amazed and hesitant to buy this DVD player because it was so inexpensive. I know that you get what you pay for but so far this is a GREAT dvd player. It was SO easy to set up and the picture is very clean and clear. I'm very impressed so far and hope that I'm not disappointed if it dies in the coming months.
Rating: Summary: Great little Player Review: I just got my Norcent in the mail yesterday (writing this July 12) and love it already. I plays every DVD I own fantastically (all are REGION 1). I do have a few minor complaints: my TV is so old that I have to run this through my VCR, which recognizes MacroVision. This results in a changing from bright to dark picture (if you have a Samsung VCR running with A/V L/R cables you know what I mean). I have a secondary TV without VCR and it plays fine on that one though. I have not yet tried R2 DVDs yet but it is supposed to handle them fine. I attempted to play a DVD-R and it did not play, but according to the user's manual it is supposed to. The technical details here don't include DVD-R playback as an included feature. Oh well, I have only 1 DVD-R and have a Samsung I can play that on. Multi-region players usually run 4-5 times what this player costs, and for this price it's an unbeatable deal. I am about to make mine region-free using a code I found.
Rating: Summary: Great price, but faulty player Review: After reading many positive reviews on this player, I decided to give it a try, but haven't found it to be as good as the other reviews. I received a player with beginning serial #113 (the newest version of the player). The price is great and it can be made region free, but PAL discs play back with noticeable pixelization. When playing regular movies, about 1-2 second pauses/skips occur periodically while playing almost any movie. Moire patterns are also constantly noticeable throughout movies. I have also noticed the incorrect framing problem (it cuts off a portion of the left & right side of the image). My friend has a cheap APEX that has the same features and doesn't exhibit any of these problems. I will be returning this player in exchange for another brand.
Rating: Summary: Be wary of this cheap DVD player. Review: This DVD player plays all standard movies fine, but it cannot play double-density DVDs. For example, I couldnt get it to even read Any of my Star Trek or 24 television show DVDs, also long movies like Gladiator and Fight Club were not recognized. When I pop in a short 90 minute movie like Road Trip or The Way of The Gun it reads it fine.
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended! Review: It's a very good DVD player for the price, and the codes to change it to a universal dvd player really works!
