Rating: Summary: Played everything in India Review: I have taken three of these DVD players to India as gifts. I was afraid that they won't play in India due to the 110-220V issue (none of the players I bought had a 110/220 V switch). None of the players are actually being played at 220V in India, because the giftees wanted to play safe. They have either bought a cheap 220V to 110V converter, or have combined two manual voltage regulators, both set to the lowest settings, in series to get almost 110V. In any case, they all are playing fine, and have been made region free using the hidden hack. I have burned a bunch of DVDs in the US and they all play fine there. Indian DVDs rented in India play fine too. Can't beat this deal!
Rating: Summary: Johnny J Review: The dvd is cool, However, customer service is very BAD.
Rating: Summary: JPEG feature doesn't work, unit unreiable Review: We chose the Norcent for it's JPEG capabilities as well as the good reviews that we found on the web. Sadly, I'm in the process of sending back my second Norcent DP300 DVD Player to Amazon.com. Neither one would play my JPEG photos reliably. About half the photos would not be displayed properly. Only the top portion of the photo would be displayed or nothing would be displayed and the screen would say "JPEG decoding error". With identical jpeg files on the same disk the Norcent would display one file but not the other. I can't understand this inconsistency. I used quality IBM CD-R media and made three different disks. The Norcent had the same inconsistent problems with all of them. I even reduced the resolution on photos with which the Norcent had problems but that didn't help. To make sure that the CDs and .jpg files were good, I tested one disk extensively on two different DVD computer drives, including one that is highly media sensitive. The CD was read perfectly by both drives and all the photos displayed perfectly so, there was nothing wrong with the CD or the JPG files. The second Norcent also lost its ability to send any image to the TV after being in use for about an hour. Not even the Norcent logo screen would display except as a very faded ghost. To make sure that the problem wasn't with the TV, I then hooked up my old RCA DVD player to the TV and everything worked perfectly. The Norcent manual wasn't helpful regarding the JPEG problems. An email to Norcent went unanswered. This whole experience was a waste of time and effort. I attribute the difference between my experience and those of the good reviews to the fact units sold under the same model number can actually contain different internal components and firmware, to poor engineering and to poor quality control.
Rating: Summary: Excellent DVD player for the price Review: This DVD player is an excellet DVD player for the price. Pro: It plays every format and media.Con: There is NO 120/240 V selection. As for rebate, Do NOT hold your breath. You will NOT get the rebate.
Rating: Summary: 3 months to the day of receiving it, it broke. Review: What a horrible piece of .... well, I won't say what I'm thinking. I bought this based on the price and the reviews here, but I was wrong. You certainly get what you pay for. I haven't even received the rebate yet. It just stopped working. I went out and bought new batteries, nope, nothing. No one here in town can fix it for less than it cost, and of course, the company only guarantees the thing for 90 days. Convenient, isn't that?
Rating: Summary: Quality Control Problems Review: I purchased 2 of these units 4 months ago and they worked flawlessly. Recently though, I purchased another unit and it made an anoying high pitched wine and the picture would freeze constantly. I returned this unit for another one assuming that I had received a rare "bad" unit. The replacement came a week later and had the exact same problems with the high pitched wine and the picture kept freezing. This has led me to believe that Norcent has some serious quality control problems.
Rating: Summary: Near disaster--stay clear Review: I purchased the Norcent player two months ago and still don't have a usable machine. The first unit that I purchased through Amazon was quite defective. Half the time that I inserted a disk (whether CD, DVD, or MP3), it would not recognize the disk and stated "no disk". Sometimes re-inserting the disk tray a few times would get it to recognize the disk. I sent off requesting an RMA to return the unit to Norcent, and after some delay received the RMA. After I couriered off the defective unit with the RMA clearly marked on the package, nothing happened. No replacement unit ever arrived. After a few weeks I finally e-mailed Norcent, and they said, oh yeh, they would send out my replacement unit within a few days. When the new unit (a freshly packaged unit) arrived, I tried it and found that the remote gave scrambled results. For example, pressing "play" would yield "stop", and many other wierder results from other keys. I e-mailed Norcent about this problem, with no response, then e-mailed again after a reasonable passage of time. Still no response after waiting another week. Then I phoned them and got a technician to understand the problem. He said that the wrong remote for the DP300 had been packaged with the unit. He sent out a replacement remote, supposedly the "right" one, but when I finally received, I found that it had all the same strange results. It looked like the same remote model and had an almost identical model number as the original. So here I am two months after the original purchase, and still no properly usable unit. Yep, if I can remember to recode the keys on the remote, I can get most of the functions to work using the recoded keys, but even then some odd results. Both the product and the service on this unit have been totally unacceptable. If you're lucky and get a unit that works properly out of the box, count your blessings--lots of features for a low price. But if you value your time and peace of mind, stay clear. Spend a few more bucks for a player from an established manufacturer with proper quality control and a decent service department.
Rating: Summary: Good but the mail in rebate never came Review: The DVD player is nice, thought the remote is clunky. The one I got does not have a 110-120 selector. I also never got my mail in rebate :((. It does play almost everything that I have fed into it. Well worth the price
Rating: Summary: Value for Money !!!!!!!!! Review: Hi, I recently purchased Norcent DP300 DVD before buying this DVD i did some research on the internet to find out if this DVD works in different region as that was one of the criteria and found that it does work in different regions not just North America. I purchased and used all its features such as viewing my picture taken on digital camera and later burnt onto CD on a bigger screen.... The best part i took this to India and it works there too as i mentioned it works in different region... so later it became so famous my friends asked me to ship couple more of them .... Worth it,
Rating: Summary: A little bundle of joy. Review: I am very pleased with the Norcent DVD player. It has shown itself to be able to play mp3's, cdr/w's without any problem whatsoever. What really caught my attention was its ability to play mpeg file formats directly burned onto cd.
