Rating: Summary: This thing is a zero! Review: Junk. Got it for my daughter at Christmas time, but it wouldn't work on her TV. So I tried other sets in the house and then I tried the neighbors (ah, typical me-ness, blaming my own televisions that work perfectly instead of accepting that I bought junk!) Returning it today so I can buy a therapy session to try and heal the pain of feeling totally ripped off for spending so much time trying to make this piece of junk work.Maybe next time I'll try Panasonic, Sony or (gasp) RCA.....
Rating: Summary: Excellent player at a nice price. Review: Our first DVD player, we've had this one since May 2003. It was very easy to set up and use (in about 20 minutes if I recall), and it has never given us a problem. Controls are easy to use, and the only reason I'm not giving it a perfect 5 stars is because you need point the remote right at the DVD player, not the TV, to work it. It's a very minor thing, though, and I would definitely recommend this player, even though other brands have come down in price since we got this one.
Rating: Summary: Worth the money Review: The Norcent player plays self-burned DVD+R, -R, +RWs. The picture quality is very good. It has Dolby Digital encoding. I only miss DTS but I think you cannot expect all this from a player of this price. The remote is not really handy but it has as many functions as brand name players. Overall, there is no reason to spend more money for a DVD player these days.
Rating: Summary: Norcent DVD is #1 Review: I purchased a Norcent DP300 DVD player for my son for Christmas. The price was unbelieveable and I thought it would be "good enough" for a first time dvd player. Well, was I shocked to find out that after purchasing a DVD writer and attempting to copy my own video's, the Norcent was the only DVD player in the house, out of 3, that would play my copies. I am thrilled and plan to replace all my other DVD players with Norcent.
Rating: Summary: expensive doorstop Review: Do not buy this product. I put it on my wish list early in 2003 because of the really high reviews. I was also very attracted to the dual voltage feature and the fairly reasonable price. Apparently, Norcent has decided to change the features of the model within the last year. I recently received it as a gift and was quite dismayed. It's unbelievable that a product could change so much in just one year. Read the recent reviews. VERY SIMPLE quality control could prevent such subpar players being shipped to consumers. After taking it out of the box, I was slightly disappointed that it was only one voltage. It was a major selling point for me, but I was willing to live with it. However, after setting it up, I inserted a DVD and after several minutes of a HORRIBLE grinding sound, the player displayed a "no disk" message. I tried several DVD's with the same message. The DVD's were region free or one and in good condition. Finally, it "started" to recognize a DVD. The first image loaded and paused for a very long second and continued to load pausing frequently. Finally, the menu finished loading and I selected play. Nothing happened. Stopped DVD and went through the whole process again (after several "no disk" messages). The movie began playing chopped up with pauses every few seconds with the player continuing to make loud grinding sounds all throughout. So a very frustrated two hours later, I still had not watched the movie that I should have been finished with and packed up the DVD to return to Amazon. Don't bother to waste the time that I did.
Rating: Summary: Terrible!! Review: I bought 2 of these players for gifts. One would not read DVDs or MP3s. I sent it back and recieved another defective one. I just hope the second one I gave lasts a little longer. DON'T BUY ONE!!!
Rating: Summary: Good piece at economy price Review: I bought this player from amazon.com itself. Initially I was bit skeptical that how can it have so many features with very small price, but after I tested this product I'm fully satisfied with its performance. It plays everything from audio CD to DVD. Region hack for this player is also available on net. This can play both NTSC & PAL formats. If you are not very much Brand-Name crazy person then this is good piece at great price.
Rating: Summary: An Absolute Piece of Junk!!! Review: I purchased one of these players for my brother-in-law for Christmas since it was such a great price, but you definitely get what you pay for with this thing! DVDs that are older, or have no opening menu seem to play fine, but any newer DVD, such as Terminator 3, Pirates of the Carribean, etc. will freeze during the main menu screen. It won't even recognize the Alien: Special Edition DVD!! What an embarresment!! Now, since I have already removed the UPC and mailed it for the rebate, I am stuck with an overgrown paperweight!! Now I am giving my brother-in-law my new DVD player and purchasing a replacement for myself. This time though, no off-brands!! I'm sticking to brands I know and trust.
Rating: Summary: Great little player for the price! Review: I just ordered one of these last Sunday, and got it last Friday. I hooked it up to my Sony TV via an S-video cable. I borrowed a friend's DVD to try it out. No hassles, no problems. I was amazed by how much better the video quality was than a VCR! I was not able to get the region-free setting to work.
Rating: Summary: Good Price, Bad Quality Review: This looks like a nice little DVD player that is inexpensive, but we bought 2 of them and they both broke the week we got them. When they were working they made a loud humming noise and when they did break, they "ate" the DVD and we had to pry the case open just to get it. I don't think that anyone should get this DVD player simply because it is a PIECE OF ... !
