Rating: Summary: Great product for the money Review: Great product, has been without faults since I received it. The best thing is it's region free via a code entered through your remote control.
Rating: Summary: Great price and great product Review: The Norcent DP-300 DVD player is great. It is reasonably priced, looks great and plays great. I called tech support and got through right away and got the help I needed to get it hooked up. For the money you cant go wrong.
Rating: Summary: Can't beat it!!! Review: This unit is awsome. The Multi-region feature is worth is weight in gold. Unlike the units the Big box retailers bring you in on this one plays all of my discs and does NOT skip and is everything I need or want in a DVD player. The picture is great and the sound blew me away.
Rating: Summary: Broke After 15 Months Review: Sure it has a warranty for a year, but you are SOL if it breaks after a mere 15 months of useage. I bought this player in Feb 2003 and now it's May of 2004 and I have no working DVD player. Amazon you have the perfect system. You will certainly sell ANYTHING and there's no recourse for some of the crap you sell. I have a CD player that still works from 1988 and a VCR from 1991. Is technology getter better? No it is getting cheaper.
Rating: Summary: Guaranteed to Break, Terrible Customer Service Review: I purchased this dvd player from Amazon. It was perfectly satisfactory for about 7 months until it died. Wouldn't play more than a few seconds of a dvd, and would degenerate into a horrible screeching noise. Norcent agreed to replace it, as long as I paid the shipping costs, which were half the original cost of the dvd player. A month (and many dogged phone calls later) I received a replacement. What a joke. It had somebody else's rented dvd in it, and though it played the picture fine, there was a repetitive clicking noise, which was probably why the previous customer had returned it. But instead of fixing the problem, they just sent it to me. Norcent admitted the mistake and agreed to pay for the shipping costs to replace the replacement. Another month and a half and many irate phone calls later, I got my third dvd player. This last one (and it will most assuredly be my last) held out for about a month before emitting a sharp click and dying completely in the middle of a movie. Please, save yourself time, misery, and money. Get a real dvd player from a real company.
Rating: Summary: IT's A JuNK!! Besides, Customer Service Department is TraSH! Review: BE AWARE!!!! NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM NORCENT!!!! MINE Norcent DP 300 was out of order after A week! I called them. Thier reply was laughing at me and saying "Can you operate HIGH-TECH Machine???" I just hung up the phone and returned it back to Amazon!!!
Rating: Summary: DVD Player didn't work Review: I sent this item to a friend. She just told me when they put a DVD in the machine it would not play. It never worked. Too bad it is too late to return the item.
Rating: Summary: Dead unit - Pruchased 7-2003 died RIP 10-2004 Review: This unit was OK but not spectacular. It often did not read a disk IE: You had to re-insert them at times. When it worked it worked well though.
Bottom line: After a year and three months this unit has quit working. It will not read any disk that is inserted. It cannot be used as a paperweight because it is too light LOL. I paid a low price and got what I paid for I guess.
If I were purchasing another DVD player or any other electronic item I'd shy away from Norcent - or is that AVorcent (Notice the "N" in Norcent's products is composed of the letter "A"and then the letter "v" to look like an "N"
That was the coolest thing about this unit. Now I'm going to put my old Toshiba DVD back into service.
Rating: Summary: Overseas and back... Review: I'm amazed at all of the bad reviews for the DP 300. At first I was very sceptical due to the extremely low price. When I did my research on the net about it, though, I discovered that it was popular among those who enjoy hacking DVD players (Macrovision, region hacks, etc.). I didn't even have to hack mine in order to play my foreign DVD discs.
Furthermore, I took this player with me to Russia for a year (going through X-ray machines on many occasions) and not only did it survive the spikes and surges over there (with no power bar!!!), but it's still going strong. I've had it for about two years now.
Rating: Summary: Lesson learned Review: I bought the product a year and a half ago and used it probably 12 times. It was a great price for a feature rich dvd player and while it worked, I really liked it. But now it no longer powers up and because it is out of warranty, Norcent will not repair it for me. Their suggestion is that I go to a local shop to get it serviced. Parts and labor to fix it will no doubt be more than what I paid for the product so now it's just a book end. Don't waste your money on a non-brand name product! I learned a valuable lesson: if it's too good to be true, it usually isn't true.
