Summary: For the $money$, you can't ask for more..
Review: This is a basic (non progressive) DVD player, but it is simple to connect and use... ... you can't ask for more. Best of all, it plays Kodak Picture CDs, MP3, etc. A great DVD player for the bedroom (on a simple 20" TV) or a big-screen TV (provide it's not HDTV ready) since this DVD player does not take advantage of HDTV resolution.

Summary: #1 Defective, #2 works great
Review: Much like paulandjulchen, I received my first unit and it was defective. Would not recognize any discs. Made the return and Amazon shipped out a replacement right away with 2 day shipping. It seems like quality control might not be a top priority at Norcent. But the second one arrived and worked as promised.

It's a basic player, small footprint, lots of plastic. But when it works, it works as advertised and plays my cdrs and mpegs too. We thought a $... VCR a while back was a great deal, this is even better. If you are just looking for an entry level DVD player and don't need all the bells and whistles, this is a good first step into the world of DVD. Our one seems to play fine through the VCR so not sure whether Macrovision is enabled or not. There are various hacks online to edit various functions of the player but it sounds like it is hit and miss.

Added 09/03 - three months later.
Ours is still working fine. It gets used every day to play kids DVDs. AsIt also plays VCDs and mpeg files but not DivX. Some other reviews mention that you can only turn the unit on and off by the button on the machine. That is true but you can put it into standby mode via the remote.

Summary: Can't beat this deal
Review: Got mine, hooked it up, and it works great! I have used it about ten times and had absolutely no problems. I am giving it 5 stars only because there is not an option for 4 1/2 stars- my one complaint is that the remote control only works up to about 2' away, which is kind of limiting. I am very pleased with this product so far and highly recommend it.

Summary: I love this player!
Review: I hooked this player up yesterday straight to my TV, and what results I got. It even played a Region 2 DVD PERFECTLY, even though it says it won't. The picture quatlity was perfect; it played several of my VCD's with no problem. I love the added features that come with it, and it's a wonderful player for a wonderful price. HIGhLY RECOMMEND.

Summary: Such a deal
Review: I'm a cynic. I found it hard to believe that a dvd player for $ would be anything but a piece of junk. It works great. It even looks nice. No problems.

Summary: Disappointed!!
Review: I bought this dvd player because it played both Pal and NTSC regions and it played cdrs/cdrws. Much to my disappointment, it will not play a single one of my cdr/cdrws. The dvd player looked very nice and had great features but I am very disappointed by its incapability to keep up with its promises. I called the Norcent company's help line and they simply said that it must be defective. I don't know if it all these dvd player are like this but Iknow that I am very unhappy with the one I recieved.

Summary: Great Value vis-a-vis Price
Review: I had read the reviews here before purchasing, but was still a bit wary because of the low price and was bracing myself for a defect. Happy to report that despite its tinny and fragile appearance and feel, it's been working without glitches since it arrived a week ago. It plays my DVDs and video CDs fine.

Summary: Fantastic Deal !
Review: This is budget minded for everyone's budget! But it is packed with power and options that make it appear a much more highly priced item. Picture adjusts to various sizes to your liking. Plays CD, DVD and MP3. Sound and picture are razor sharp in clarity. ...

Summary: A true bargain!
Review: First, the "bad" stuff. There are several versions of this machine, and I have the newer "Q4 2002" version. There is NO voltage switch on the back panel; perhaps there was on older versions, but not this one. The manual does not explain many things. I still don't know what "STANDBY" is for certain. Also, there is no readout on the face of this player. If you want information about which track you're on, you have to use the remote and see the information on the television screen. Also, if you use the "A-B" repeat, or the "Chapter", "Title" or "All" repeat feature, the Icon that says this function has been selected does NOT disappear! It stays on-screen while being used. The same is true if you enlarge/shrink the picture using the "ZOOM" button. And the remote control could have had better placement of it's buttons. It's just too easy to hit "NEXT" when you're trying to hit "REV".This machine does work very, very well (so far)! It has played all the DVD's, Audio CD's and one VCD that I have placed into it with no problems whatsoever! It is not difficult to use this machine as far as the basic functions are concerned, but you will have to basically teach yourself how to use some of the gimmicks. One more thing.....the rebate coupon is something that you will have to print and send in yourself. If you don't have a printer (or have a friend who has one) you won't get the $...rebate!Oh, and one more thing: I was able to make this machine into a "multi-region" player by hacking, but I was not able to turn-off the Macrovision. I believe this is true of all the newer models. So now I should be able to play any DVD disc, even if it's format is PAL instead of the domestic NTSC. This could be very useful because some titles (such as "Shogun Assassin") are only available on Region 2 discs at this time.
