Summary: Price too good to be true
Review: In spite of diligently reading the ratings, and following all the not very difficult instructions, I found that this unit did not work at all, right out of the box. All that could be seen was that the CD or DVD's were recognized as such by the lights on the front panel, but there was no output either of sound or image. The remote did work for powering on and off, and for opening and closing, so it wasn't a battery problem there. There was no image when attempting to program the thing through on-screen options either. We sent it back for a refund, being leery of a replacement.

Summary: not a dual voltage
Review: Advertised as dual voltage (110/220) but
this is not true in my case.

Summary: Great value for money!
Review: I have been using this player for about 2 months now and have been very satisfied with it. It is very basic but it gets the job done, i.e. provides excellent picture and sound quality. I have even managed to play a VCD from Singapore on this! Amazon has lowered the price even more since I bought it - so wait no more!

Summary: One of the greatest DVD Player made.
Review: I originally bought this DVD Player because of the reviews... Just got it today, its quite small, my first DVD player was huge... Now the Norcent DP300 is slightly larger than a Cable Box or Sat Receiver. It is smaller than the modern VHS VCRs that I have stacked below it. Very light and came with Component output.

CD-R (VCD & SVCD) Played nicely, I haven't tested the upper kbs yet.

MPEG Backup CD. I put in a CDR with some backup mpeg movies on it, and this thing play those nicely. I had a navigational feature that goes into a disk, list all the folder directories, you can click on a folder and it list all files within it. This is like a Windows Explorer style thing that let you explore and play files on a disk. No need to make VCD or SVCD of home movies, just an MPEG.

Haven't tested the PAL/NTSC conversion thing, but then I don't live in Europe.

For the price... I'd like to buy half a dozen of these and stock up, unfortunately I don't have the money for such endeavor.

Summary: Not a Multi-Region Stuff
Review: I purchased this DVD player seeing that it can be played anywhere (110 V - 240 V). It is not true. It plays only at 110 V. It plays the dvds okay, but with the same price if you get a better quality product like Apex, why to buy it. I returned this player in 2 days.

Summary: It works!
Review: This product is extremely cut and dry, and that's really what I wanted. I insert the DVD, watch my movie, then turn it off.
I've had it for two weeks and so far so good! I like the fact that it's small, it's not complicated, and I was able to hook it up by myself.

I am very happy with my DVD player. I think it's great for that price!

Summary: It's about what you'd expect for...bucks.
Review: It works just fine as a DVD player, and I have no need of anything better. For its good points, see the other reviews, which are quite accurate. But you should be aware of some of its peculiarities. The pilot lights are on when the unit is turned off (standby), and off when it's turned on. Even in standby mode, it emits enough interference to make broadcast TV unwatchable. There is no way to turn the power off from the remote, and no way to turn it back on from standby without the remote, except by turning the power off and on again. The remote control is almost comically badly designed, and the onscreen menus are ugly (but functional). It often takes a very long time to eject a DVD, or ignores the eject button entirely until you cycle the power.

But hey, it's incredibly cheap, and it does play my DVDs!

Summary: A decent DVD player...
Review: ...if you don't mind 1) not having power on/off on remote control 2) rather tardy DVD/CD tray 3) not having 'random' play of tracks on a music CD 4) an almost useless user manual and 5) a silver-finish unit.

Other than the above complaints, this feature-rich DVD player is definitely worth the sixty some dollars I paid for it in Feb 2003. More so, if you play DVDs from other regions or want to use this player in other regions (120/240 V, 50/60 Hz, PAL/NTSC). Yes, with the code (a sequence of button presses on te remote control) available on the internet, my player now plays DVDs from any region! Also DVD/DVD-R/CD/CD-R discs play without any problems.

Summary: Great budget player, running at 110-240V, PAL, regionfree...
Review: ...Since this is my first player, I do not have a real comparison, but the picture seems good enough, it is capable of running at voltages from 110-240V 50-60Hz, plays PAL/NTSC DVDs, I made mine region-free (OPEN/CLOSE -> Setup -> 8888 -> Next -> Version -> Region Code -> 0 :o)...) so I can even take it back to Europe when I go. I was able to play couple DVDs, also one VCD that I made. I do not have any DVD-R/RW to try, but it's supposed to handle them too as well as MP3 CDs. For [the money] what else do you want for this price? Sony doesn't even make models that can run at 220V/50Hz, nor do they make models that can play PAL DVDs, let alone region-free...(that's what they wrote me).
I highly recommend this unit. Especially at this price.

Summary: Great Deal For The Money
Review: You cant beat this DVD player for the money. I recently bought a Sony DVD/VHS Tape player for 5 times the cost and returned it because it skipped and froze while playing back DVD's. This one works flawlessly. Plus it has every DVD function that you would ever want. Zoom, shuttle, FF, plus many more functions. More than you will ever need or use. The only complaints I have are the instructions are rather lacking in detail, but hookup is intuitive and easy, also the button labeling on the remote is a very tiny font that is difficult to read. However, for the price, this can be easily overlooked and you will soon memorize which buttons on the remote you use most frequently. Definitely a best buy in my book.
