Summary: Ate It Up
Review: A DVD/VHS combination is a great idea for those with insufficient storage. This might have been a great buy, but I am returning it after a few days of use.

After playing a VHS tape for five minutes, it stuck when I tried hit eject.. This was very annoying. I called GO-VIDEO, and they had a special 800 number for those who bought the DVR4000 and one of their other products. I finally got through after several hours, and the technician told me a way (other than the manual's suggestion that you unplug the machine over night!) to un-jam the tape. After several tries (all of which, I believe, may have tampered with the warranty had I damaged the machine in the attempt), I finally saved an old favorite tape. (The 7th game of the 1988 NBA championship. The Go-Video person said that the tape age may have had something to do with it, but that, in any event, this should not have happened.)

I'm returning the machine even though it didn't stick with a few tapes I tried afterwards... I just don't quite trust it. I had trouble getting the main setup menu to appear--this happened very inconsistently.

All that said, this has great features, fairly easy hookup (especially for newer televisions), and their customer service was very prompt and friendly. If you purchase this, I hope you'll have a better experience than I did. Note: It seems that the other DVD/VHS machines have their share of problems as well, read the reviews for the Panasonic and, especially, the Samsung: User experiences seem to vary greatly.

Review: For those wishing to get into DVD without throwing aways VHS videos, this is a great deal. I am not an audio or videophile, I can say this is definitely a quality piece of merchandise.

Summary: Liked it at first, bought 2nd one...... now both are dead!
Review: I am really disappointed in this product. As the title says, I bought one and loved it. Bought a second one for living room and was happy. After about 6 mos, (of course post warranty) mine started showing all DVDs very dark and then light. You couldn't watch a DVD. VCR worked ok. Then the second one started with the same problem. I was VERY upset about this and had no recourse. So I am writing this note hoping it will stop someone else from buying one and experiencing the same problems. As I said, at the get-go the unit was terrific. I expect a DVD to last longer than these did. They were both used by adults and probably used for a max of 2-3 DVDs a week.
Did I replace mine? You bet. I bought a JVC and am happy with it. Just have to keep reading the manual to see how it all works.
Skip Go Video..... save yourself a headache in the long run!

Summary: A Perfect Transition Piece
Review: I bought the DVR4000 about 4 months ago and I have to say it's a sturdy, reliable system. The VCR player is 4 heads and chock full of recording and playback features. The DVD player is easy to use and has presented no major problems so far. I noticed that some scenes skipped on the DVD player and the sound went in and out, but I think it's the result of a faulty DVD rather than the player itself. This happened on a total of 2 DVDs out of a dozen or so that I've played in the interim.
Overall, this is a good system to have if you're not quite ready to ditch your entire VHS library, but at the same time build your DVD collection.

Summary: Gotta love it
Review: I bought this a while back and I love it. I can play cd's, dvd's or tape a movie. Its great to have a combo, I'm glad this company thought of it. However because of the type of satellite that I receive I am not able to record a movie and watch another channel at the same time. But that's a minor complication for me and not big of a deal. Though it might be to some other people.

Overall the quality is great! Its easy to use, and what could be better than a combo? Its great I would highly reccomend it to anyone. However before you go use it, like anything else read the directions, if you're a movie junkie you'll come to appreciate this beauty.

Summary: Covers the Bases
Review: I bought this locally and have had mine for a couple of months. Why would anyone buy this thing? Saving shelf space is the main reason. Reducing the number of remotes on the coffee table is probably another. If quality and price were the only issues, you could get better separate VHS and DVD components for a lower total cost, but at a sacrifice of convenience.

I echo the other comments on audio quality, except that quality is not the issue, volume is. The audio signal from the box is noticably weaker than the signals that come from my other audio components. This occasionally leads to an "ear blast" when I switch my receiver to AM/FM or CD music.

The DVR-4000 has at least three different sets of connections to get you from the box to the stereo system (or TV for simpler setups). Newer systems, particularly those with Digital Optical connections may give different results, but my 15 year old receiver is not up to that task.

Summary: Had for over a YEAR works great even after move to Italy!!!
Review: I bought this one almost a year and a half ago in maine. I was thrilled to get a machine that didn't take up much space and is a cinch to connect. I am a military wife and we moved to Italy. We now connect it through a transformer due to the electricity and a satalite box. I am able to connect my surround sound speakers to it with ease. Very simple hookup I have not had any problems. I love this machine! Thank you GO VIDEO!

Summary: GOTTA LOVE A COMBO
Review: I BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT BECAUSE OF ITS SPACE SAVING QUALITIES AND DVD FEATURES. MY OLD DVD PLAYER, WHILE GOOD, DIDNT LIVE UP TO TODAYS PLAYERS FEATURES.(I HAD NO ZOOM OR SMOOTH REVERSE ETC.) MY OLD VCR WAS GOING ON 8 YEARS OLD SO IT WAS A MOVE UP FOR ME THERE TOO. I SOLD MY OLD STUFF FIRST SO I COULD JUSTIFY HAVING A NEW ONE. IT WAS SO NICE TO RUN JUST A COUPLE OF CABLES TO MY HOME THEATER SET-UP INSTEAD OF MANY FROM BOTH UNITS. PLUS THE DVR4000 LIVES UP TO ITS CLAIM OF BEING A VERY GOOD DVD PLAYER. THE VCR IS ONLY AVERAGE BUT WITH VHS ON ITS WAY OUT I WILL ONLY USE IT FOR MY EXISTING TAPE FILES ANYWAY. ITS MY BELIEF THAT COMBO UNITS WILL BECOME MORE AVAILABLE IN ALL SORTS OF UNITS. ONE DAY WE MAY HAVE A DVD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-R PLAYER RECORDERS ALL IN ONE UNIT.AS FAR AS THIS UNIT GOES - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Summary: DVR4000 - Not the most reliable DVD for the money
Review: I had no complaints about this combo, until the DVD feature stopped working this past weekend. I only have it for 9 months, and now it no longer plays DVDs, doesn't matter what DVD I put inside, it does not recognize it. Since it's under the guarantee, I took it to have it serviced, but the guarantee only covers the parts, not the labor! Much to my surprise when I found out that the labor was going to cost me [money and I'll still have to look through my old receipts in order to get my guarantee for the parts, otherwise I'll have to give another[amount]for the part! Needless to say, I went out and bought myself a new DVD combo (from a different brand) because the money was just not worth it! Not even that, if it breaks again after 3 months, than I'll have no guarantee at all! Now I use this GoVideo combo as a VCR only... Use your money to buy a brand you can trust.
