Summary: Great player -- Best electronics I've ever bought
Review: I just bought this item. It's the best piece of electronics I've ever bought. The whole thing is engineered very well. For example, instead of one headphone jack, there are two -- so that you and a friend can watch a DVD on a plane without disturbing others. Another example: unlike many other models, the LC20 can charge it's battery independently of the player -- so if you have a pair of batteries, you can charge both at the same time, or watch using one battery outside while the other one charges.

Note also that unlike several other players, this model has the option of buying an extra-long extra battery, for 6.5 hours -- with the battery that comes with the player this is about 10 hours of DVDs.

Summary: Ultimately a great buy!!!!
Review: I just purchased a Pioneer LC-20 Portable DVD Player last week. I am very impressed with the quality of the screen. The picture is very crisp and clear. However, the sound quality I think could be better. But then again, many people use headphones and external speakers with this unit and others like it. This changes the sound and makes it better. Also, I thought the battery life was decent. I lasted about three and a half hours. There are a few options which I would recommend purchasing to make the money you spend on this player worth it. I would advise purchasing an extra battery pack. Also, you should purchase high quality headphones with noise reduction so if you're on the go, you can concentrate fully on the movie and you should purchase external speakers because the sound is not all that good. Finally, I would advise purchasing an S-video cable and an RF Modulator so you can hook the player up to your tv as a regular DVD player. Altogether this player is very good and I would highly recommend it to someone if they have the money to pay for it.

Summary: Beautifully made, and Upgradeable!
Review: Pioneer PDV-LC20 is a very well-made machine. It can play both factory-stamped and recordable DVD's. Same for audio compact disks. Extensive research has revealed that it can also be upgraded (for a reasonable fee by reputable non-factory service centers) to be multi-region and VCR Friendly. This is great for people who obtain DVD's from all regions of the world and need to connect the PDV-LC20 through the VCR because there is only one A/V input set (or only an RF connection) on the TV/monitor. The PDV-LC20 has a great picture, great lithium-ion battery pack, and two headphone jacks (great for sharing with a companion during airline flights). The overall quality, workmanship, and upgradeability make the PDV-LC20 a great value.

Summary: Did not meet expectations
Review: Player did not work properly. Did not detect proper aspect ratio for non-wide screen commerical DVDs. Screen froze during playback. Should never have made it through QC. Disappointing. Item returned

Summary: Gizzmo Knut
Review: This is an excellent DVD Player for the money. The sound quality is a little above average but with a decent pair of noise canceling headphones this is an excellent companion on long flights or for the kids on long road trips. I should have purchased the extra battery thought for flights over 4 hours.

Summary: The best portable DVD player on the market
Review: This is the best portable DVD currently. Forget the Panasonic, forget Sharp and even forget Sony. The Pioneer LC20 is the best around. The 7" LCD screen is crisp and sharp and more than good enough for the road. Having read a lot of reviews which gave the Panasonic machine superiority on the display, I can say that there in NO DIFFERENCE between the two. Frankly, you are not going to get HDTV quality viewing on the road anyway, are you? The second misconception is the battery life, Pioneer offers a 6.5 hour option over the Panasonic's 5 hours.
The DVD player itself if exceptional, Pioneer is renowned for making quality DVD players and this shows on the portable. Excellent for hooking up to TV's in hotel rooms.
The credit card remote control is user friendly and more portable than the Panasonic's.
Also the Pioneer beats the outdated Sony, I am a Sony fan but Sony needs to come out with a new model, if it is to get one over Pioneer.
Forget what the reviews say and save yourself some hassle.
You wont go wrong with Pioneer
