Rating: Summary: AVOID TOSHIBA DVD PLAYERS! Review: After owning this product for about 8 months it DIED! The product was NOT heavily used (probably 2-3 times per week). I would not recommend another Toshiba DVD to anyone.
Rating: Summary: No Luck with Playing MP3's Review: Not a bad machine overall for the low price. Unfortunately, my Toshiba SD 2805 player does not want to play MP3's. I have tried lots of different MP3's and have had very little luck with the machine reading them. Most of them cannot be recognized. The DVD features are good if a bit clumsy. The remote is small with lots of buttons and a bit complicated (this is common). The price is great for a 5 disc player. Hope you have better luck playing your MP3's.
Rating: Summary: I would not recommend this Product Review: I purchased this product in November 2002 and have probably watched a dozen or so movies on it. On day 80 of owning it the brains became scrambled and it would not open the door, rotate discs etc. After having to go through the hassle of taking it to a warranty service center it went out again this time out of the 90 day warranty. Since its has been more than 90 days since I purchased it, labor to look at it now is $70 which is not worth it. We probably only used the DVD player once a week and did not abuse it or mishandle it. The electronics seem to be overly sensitive because we barely used it. I just went out and purchased a panasonic which will hopefully have better results. I would not take my chances on a toshiba if I were you.
Rating: Summary: Was good while it lasted Review: As many other reviews have noted, mine too had defective parts. When I first got the player it worked fine. Now, the tray won't close and the disc's will not get picked up and placed in the actual player. I'm now in the process of buying a new one. I don't even want to think about how much it would cost to repair it.
Rating: Summary: It's tricky! Review: It took me about 4 months to find out how to do some things with this player. After figuring it out i'd say it's pretty damn good. To be able to access the MP3 songs directly you must put your TV on the DVD view. There you will see 8 songs listed per page and you can punch in the number of the track to get to it AND see all the song names. Very slick! Now i use this while on my treadmill. Keeping the remote handy i jump from song to song that goes with my running mood. I highly recommend this player for people who like cool features. I have had no problems with it after 6 months of ownership.
Rating: Summary: Disapointed Review: I was disapointed with the performance. When the the cd player arrived I put in a disc and the carousel would not close after several attempts I returned it.
Rating: Summary: Horrible! Review: I bought this DVD Player for my boyfriend as a Christmas present. It had not been used more than 5 times when it stopped working. I took it in to the nearest service center and it is still there! Its been since the begining of Jan '03 and its now April! Two major parts of the player needed to be replaced. One of the parts Toshiba sent in replacement was defective and they had to order it again! It seems that a lot of parts that Toshiba uses in their products don't work. Four months and still not fixed, horrible! Don't ever buy!
Rating: Summary: Not Perfect Review: I have used one since December. I am generally happy with its performance. There is however one defect with the player. It does not handle subtitles correctly for some disks. I would have subtitles off during playback, and suddenly the subtitles get turned on. The two disks that caused this problem to occur are one of "Blue Seed" disks and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Special Edition)". Since I got this player cheap, I can live with this defect. Also, since this is probably a firmware issue, this may be fixed by now. Good luck.
Rating: Summary: The 5 Disk Player That Wasn't. Review: ...i think that aside from the design which makes this device look like a spray painted brick, it's not a terribly bad DVD player. It has some excellent features for the price. However, I may return it this week though as everytime it plays a disk and that disk finishes, it simply...stops. There's no feature to address or change this amongst a sea of useless features...My Harmon Kardon that is 10 years older does all this and much faster. This is the most idiotic shortcoming of all mentioned from other reviewers - from the miniscule Pause button to wacky controls needed to change, skip and ex-change (sic) discs. If it can't play sequentially, the disks that are loaded, then it becomes merely a bulky DVD/CD storage facility. Pointless, really...
Rating: Summary: Defective out of the box... Review: Maybe this is a great value for $, but I have my doubts. I'll let you know when I get it out of the shop! The DVD player was defective out of the box and would not recognize any disk I placed in it, spinning up and eventually kicking open the tray with the display panel reading "Disk Error". I was directed to take the device into a service repair center (1/20/03). Three weeks later, the failed "pick up assembly" is on back order and not due to arrive for an additional 5 weeks. It gets better. The replacement part arrives but is found to be defective as well. Another one is ordered, received two weeks later and installed. But now another part is found to be defective (the "IC"), causing the player to only be able to read some discs. Again I wait. If all goes well. I'll have the player out of the shop by the first of April, 71 days after I took it in. By the number of reviews which mention failed parts, it appears Toshiba has a quality control problem. Recommendation: Don't buy this or any other Toshiba product! The DVD player itself is not the sole cause of my frustration!
