Rating: Summary: Beautiful pictures. Stunning for $100 Review: I've had a string of players with what I imagine are [bad] video decoders; my Onkyo would sometimes just freeze up at one screen for about five seconds, the RCA not only did that, it produced horribly pixelated scene transitions. The RCA also seemed to put out terribly low audio levels; I had to crank the TV to hear the silly thing. The American Beauty DVD seems to break on most DVD players. I was pretty frustrated. Then I got the Toshiba. For [money], all I wanted was good, smooth, colorful images on DVD and a decent audio output level. And I got that... this produces the brightest, clearest DVD picture I've ever seen. The remote buttons are too dang small but then they're ALL too dang small. And it plays American Beauty without a hiccough.I didn't want Video CD, SVCD, CD audio, or MP3, and I didn't even care about the DVD changer; they were all gravy for 100 bucks. I *did*, however, like the changer when watching _24_ on DVD! If you have a cheap DVD player that you hate, throw it away or put it in the kid's room and buy yourself one of these. You won't be sorry.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely amazing value. Review: This Toshiba unit has more tricks up its sleeve than most users will ever need, and many you're likely to ever know about unless you study the manual closely. Suffice it to say it will play virtually any format CD or North American DVD you throw at it with considerable aplomb. While I have not found any real need for a DVD changer just yet, its CD changer makes this unit great for handling all the music at your next party. Its DVD features zoom magnification of any point in any image, and its digital processing allows for nearly perfect freeze frame or zoom. Audio outputs are plentiful, as are video hook up options. The remote is fairly well laid out and the menus are logical. This is a great all-purpose player at a great price.
Rating: Summary: DO NOT BUY!!!! Review: This player is not worthy of even one star. Yes, the picture is beautiful and the sound is excellent. However, the player worked for only one year before malfuntioning. The door always comes open, no matter what button(s) I push, including 'play,' rendering the machine useless! MP3's disc's occassionally did not play either, even before the complete malfunctioning began. From what I have heard, I am lucky that this player even lasted one full year. I bought one for my parents about 6 months ago and it is still working - thank God. Due to the poor craftsmanship of Toshiba, I will not buy their products again. HELLO SONY!
Rating: Summary: We've really enjoyed it. Review: We purchased this DVD player in September of 2002 and with a weekly average of 5 uses it still performs very well. It plays all of our CDs very well and plays our DVDs with excellent clarity. I find the functions easy to operate as well. I don't see a need to have a 5-disc DVD player, but for the CDs it is very convenient. We love this DVD/CD player.
Rating: Summary: Picture Freezes Review: I bought this DVD player in December of 2002 and it started freezing during playback about 2 months ago. I hardly used it for the first 6 months and then when our daughter was old enough to watch some of the videos we have, the player starts to freeze and then skip forward. It's very hard to watch the disappoinentment on your daughter's face as she is entrenched in an Elmo video when it freezes and she stares blankly at the screen and then me. I also agree that that the controls are agonizingly slow. Since this is my first DVD player, I didn't realize that until I saw other players. I was going to replace with a Sony, then I started reading some of Sony's reviews and they have similar problems with the playback freezing. Bottomline, don't spend more than $80 on a DVD player, because it will probably be dead shortly after the warranty expires.
Rating: Summary: What a waste!!! Review: Player lasted from December '02 until October '03. Worked great for awhile, but now it makes grinding sounds and "Disk Error" appears on the display. No discs are lodged in the player and after reading some of these other reviews I'm throwing in the towel. While Toshiba in my eyes is a good name, spend a little extra and get a better quality product.
Rating: Summary: A skunk of a machine Review: We bought this particular machine because of Toshiba's good reputation and the great price for the features. Picture is fine but the discs do not want to stay in their appropriate trays! When you start the machine the tray automatically rotates to scan how many discs are present. Very frequently a disc will become dislodged and at least once every 3-4 weeks it get dislodged enough to be flung to the back of the machine! We then have to take the cover off to retrieve it and hope it isn't scratched (which has happened!) We've taken it in for service and they could find nothing wrong. Wrote to Toshiba - no reply. I'm going to be wary of buying Toshiba in the future and will NEVER buy a multi-disc DVD from them again.
Rating: Summary: Great Player that just doesn't last Review: Bought the Player in November to have for Christmas. It lasted until about March (Just out of service warranty). Then the carousel door would only open halfway - the electronics are messed up, because the door is mechanically OK. Great price, and it worked great while it lasted. If you buy this, get the extended warranty for sure!
Rating: Summary: Very good value Review: Sometimes it puzzles me reading negative reviews for a product that I've had nothing but good experiences with. I've had this DVD player for about a year now, and it's worked fine with reasonably heavy use (I probably watch 5-6 movies a week). I don't use it for CDs or MP3 playback, so I can't really comment on how well it performs there, but with movies it provides excellent picture and sound quality (hooked up to my TV through S-video connection, and directly into my stereo system). The only complaints I have about it are with the remote, which is on the small side and does not have buttons to select a specific disk, just a Disk Skip button to advance one disk at a time. The disks also change rather slowly; when you hit Disk Skip the carousel has to turn, and then there's several seconds before you can hit the button again to advance to the next disk. An annoyance to be sure, but a minor one. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase...
Rating: Summary: Not stylish, but a good DVD player Review: The looks of this DVD changer didn't grow on me over time as it is too big and bulky looking. However, it played DVDs well with no problems, even DVDs from the library which were scratched up. Consumer Reports had it as one of its top models in the lower-priced categories and the picture quality is excellent.
