Rating: Summary: GREAT MACHINE Review: The guy who reviewed this machine and could not get it to work with his TV...did not read the manual. You have to hit the Monitor button several times to scan through the settings to get it to show on your TV. Amazing picture...speakers are a bit weak but the headphones work great. The battery does not last long...but I am trying to get that one figured out.
Rating: Summary: Great Picture, No Sound Review: This DVD player has a wonderful picture but without using some kind of head phones, the sound is almost faint. I've heard others and the sound on both Toshiba Portable DVD's (the 8 and 9 inch) is very low and "tinny" even when turned up to the highest volume, you can barely hear it. It's a shame because the picture is beautiful.
Rating: Summary: Stunning Performance. Review: This player is amazing--the 16/9 ratio 8.9" screen produces a stunning and very film-like image. With its progressive scanning and 614,400 pixels, it can display anamorphic widescreen DVDs in their full resolution, like watching them on an HD-ready TV. The sound is great too--with a good set of headphones, you will think you're in the theater. Viewing movies on this baby is downright addictive. I haven't listened to a DVD-Audio yet, but regular audio CDs sound very good, and it plays all my CD-Rs with no problems. The only features I wish it had are an S-video input for the monitor (it does have a standard A/V input), and random play for audio CDs, but given the space constraints of a portable the former is probably unrealistic to expect anyway. All-in-all, a superb player.
Rating: Summary: A fine but quiet performer Review: This player is loaded with wonderful features. Picture quality is good, being the largest one I've auditioned. There are many helpful features for viewing chapters, segments of chapters, etc. Regretfully, I had to return the one I ordered. Compared to the other players I've tried, the speaker volume was very low and contained no middle or low frequency output. It was like listening to just the tweeter's output. The headphone output however had pleanty of volume with full tonal range. Hopefully this was just a defective unit and not indicative of all SD-P2000's.
Rating: Summary: Very Pleased So Far Review: Very impressed! even my techno snob friend, was very impressed with the sound ( via headphones )and picture quality.I considered spending a bit more for a laptop with DVD, however this dedicated unit is so much less hassle free to operate. It was interesting to read the comment regarding the battery life? That the unit still comsumes power eventhough it is turned off. Overall I am very happy with this purchase John
Rating: Summary: Toshiba SDP2000 Review: We're extermely happy with our purchase of the Toshiba sdp2000 portable dvd. If you plan on using this player in your car, make sure you purchase a "suspension theater" carrying case to hang the player between the seats. For long trips (longer than the battery life), buy a power inverter. It's much cheaper than a cigarette power adaptar. If you want to hear the dvd through the car speakers and you have a cassette player, use a CD car radio cassette player adaptar. The only minor drawback to this dvd player is you can't open the screen to 180 degrees or beyond
Rating: Summary: Like a Drive-In Theater in your pocket! Review: What can I say? I bought this unit sight unseen based on reviews, etc. and took the plunge for ($$$) big ones >>GULP<<. And guess what? It's a GREAT little unit! I was concerned about the audio quality, too...and it's not as bad as some reviewers say. ... Get a set of quality headphones. I got the SONY MDR-NC20 Noise Cancelling headphones for it, and they sound SUPERB!..especially w/the player's 3D Spatializer option on. It also has TWO headphone jacks, so you and a partner can enjoy. I also bought a JENSEN cassette audio adaptor for vehicle use, for the "Simulated Drive-In" effect! All in all, this portable DVD player has a host of connection and display options that put many component sized desktops a run for their money. For the price it should perform at the top...and it DOES! Try it on a huge SONY WEGA set. I did. SUPERLATIVE! ADDED NOTE: The CaseLogic DVD case: PDVK1 fits this player, with the external battery in a second pocket...just barely, but it does fit.

It's a GREAT little unit! I was concerned about the audio quality, too...and it's not as bad as some reviewers say. (NOTE: there are THREE sound settings-normal, 3D, and Dialogue. The later setting is best for built-in speakers). What do you expect from tiny speakers? Besides, if you are watching yours on an airplane, etc. do you really think everyone else wants to hear your video or music? NO. Get a set of quality headphones.
