Summary: Great Performance At A Great Price
Review: Recently purchased the SD-1800 to complete my small apartment's home theater setup. Installation was a snap with an S-Video cable going directly to the TV and a Digital Coaxial cable going to my Onkyo receiver.

While I have found Pro-Logic II to be adequate for most of the cable (and digital cable) broadcasts I watch, I was impressed by watching movies in Dolby Digital and even moreso by those using DTS. The dynamic sound and video quality is excellent.

The SD-1800 is small, light and a snap to install, requires no real setup or programming and comes with logical and intuitive menus and options.

For the money I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better choice. Definitely recommended.

Review: Simple to setup. Controls are simple to understand.

Summary: misleading mp3 support
Review: The owners manual informs you that CD-RW's are not recommendable and sure enough it did not recognize a RW disc recorded with mp3's or one recorded in a regular audio format (non mp3). I will say that the DVD funtion is outstanding, as is the audio quality from pre-recorded factory CD's and CD'R's. Unfortunately the CD-RW non-support is a major factor for me, and all e-tailers who sell this product have not relayed the CD-RW information. If this is not an issue for you, then by all means buy this player.

Summary: Great value, great features!
Review: This is a great DVD player at an outstanding price. As a first-time initiate to DVDs, this one has all the features one would want in a DVD player. It is user friendly, easy set-up, and the remote control buttons make a lot of sense! Makes a great gift.

Summary: Great for New Grad on a Budget
Review: This is my first DVD player and I have no complaints so far. Plays DVDs well and responds well to the remote control. It has been nine months already and I wonder what all the poor reviews are about. I have had no problems and I am glad I spent so little and got so much out of it. Now I need to test VCDs and then I'll be perfectly satisified with my purchase.

Summary: Excellent machine
Review: Toshiba has done it again w/great quality for a great price. I can't see why anyone wouldn't give this a great review. It's very light weight and has a sleek design and I feel it's user friendly and easy to install. It offers a sharp picture and has great sound and amenities to the player.

Summary: great unit for the price
Review: Toshiba make great products!! There tv's last longer and are better than most leading brand names so i trusted there name and bought the SD1800 DVD player and once again i'm impressed. These guys were the first to make a dvd player and everyone else jumped on the band wagon. I like this product so much i bought one for a friend in NY for Christmas. This model is the perfect dvd player for simple viewing of dvd's or just listening to music. It doesn't have fancy features but it's perfect for the price range. Why pay [big] bucks for a cheap no name when for [a little] more you can buy a brand name product that will out last all brands.

Summary: Worked for a year, then KAPUT!
Review: When I bought an earlier version of this product (the SD-1700) last year, I was more than satisfied with it. I think I used the player about two dozen times in 12 months I have owned it and never had a problem. However, when I sat down to view a brand-new disc the other day, the movie played for about two minutes, then the tv emitted a sqawk, and now I no longer have any volume from ANY disc that I attempt to play and the scrolling menu on the front of the machine no longer works. And, you got it, the warranty has expired.

Needless to say, I guess you get what you pay for. I think I'll take a pass on any other Toshiba products from now on!
