Summary: Brightness seems fade in and out
Review: I just bought this DVD and have set it up fine, however the brightness of the screen seems to fade in and out ever 90 seconds or so. I can't see anything in the manual about this. I am using the single composite video out into my TV which has a built in video. Any thoughts would be welcome! Thanks.

Summary: First one was defective on arrival, next one is working
Review: I like the player... I usually leave the subtitles on, so am not much bothered by the "default is subtitles on" problem. All in all I think the price to features ratio is great, as long as it works! Hence I am not giving it 5 stars.

Summary: ARGH--subtitle problem!
Review: I logged on with the intention of writing this review because we are very disappointed with the subtitling problem (other than that, it is a good, low-cost DVD). I am glad I did in order to find out that we're not the only ones with this problem and find some ideas to deal with it! We are going to try to "work around" the problem using some of the tips here, and if that doesn't work, we're going to try and send it back to Hyundai (if we can figure out how to do it with the lack of documentation in the manual)!

Summary: Good for the money
Review: I received this item last week and so far it plays very good. My only complaint is the subtitles go on automaticly when the movie starts so I have to go back and turn them off. This has to be done through the movie's menu not the player's, otherwise they keep going on. MP3s play flawlessly. I played about 10 movies so far and all played well.

Summary: Hyundai DVD Player
Review: I was searching for an inexpensive DVD player. I read the customer reviews on the Apex and other models and they were pretty mixed. I figured for [$$] it's tough to go too far wrong. I took a chance by buying before reading a custoer review. The installation was a snap. The remote is easy to use (this was a problem with some of the Apex reviews I read). The Dvd's I've played so far work fine. An excellent buy for someone unsophisticated like me.

Summary: Name brand, no name budget priced!!
Review: I've always waited for a budget priced dvd..and my wait paid off. It plays all vcds I've tried and most dvds'. My only gripe was when I loaded a "In The Bedroom" dvd disc, it doesn't play...I've previously played it in my PS2 and it was fine though. Weird. The disc has some bad scratches though... One of the things I liked most with this player is that it is region hackable. I've just converted it from region 1(USA)into regional code free...now I can play ANY dvd disc from anywhere!! That's what you call a dvd world player! I plan to send this to my dad overseas in the old country (Region 3)so this will be a cinch for them to use!!

Summary: Good price with high feature..
Review: It is very nice player, can play with currently SVCD,VCD,CD,CD-R,MP-3 etc,, is essential part for home theater system that has 5.1ch surround.eventhough lot of function, price is very low, unbelievable.I can feel what this is latest digital technology.
Driving is believing and utilizing is getting money.

Summary: SUBTITLE PROBLEMS
Review: it's a not problem really.. it just turns off wen you want it to and turns on when you want it to. 5 SIMPLE steps.. 1) Press the SUBTITLE BUTTON on the remote control
2) On the top left hand corner a box will appear that looks something like 01/01
BM ON
3) Press ENTER on the remote control
4) Press -> RIGHT ARROW BUTTON on the remote control
5) Press ENTER, then "ON" will change to "OFF" and NO MORE SUBTITLES! oR~ Just go to SETUP (without puttin a DVD in) on your remote control, go to languages, go to subtitle, press original and then exit this is all there is to it

Summary: so far so good
Review: My first DVD player. Hey, it plays DVD's! Most real complaint is that the 5-minute shutdown comes way too soon. I THINK I've overcome the persistent subtitling mentioned in other reviews but the onscreen menus ARE a little non-intuitive, and the manual has its confusing moments (though the subtitling was the only feature to bug me while watching my first couple of DVD's before even *opening* the manual). It comes with the cables (3-in-1) you'll need for basic setup--you only need more if you're setting up for home theater, or if you want to use higher-quality video connection (S-/composite video). The unit itself is surprisingly good-looking, the picture is beautiful (and I haven't so far seen ANY of the digital artifacts I've noticed on my computer and on friends' players), and everything seems to be working as it should. A good way to get your feet wet while you're sorting out which bells and whistles might be worth the money next time around.

Summary: A starter unit for DVD and something you need to know.
Review: My kids and nephews have built an extensive DVD library so I figured it was time to get a DVD player. I'm not going to do anything fancy so I just wanted something inexpensive and straight forward. That's what this unit is ... BUT! You should know about something that I didn't know about. The television I wanted to use it on has a built-in VHS cassette VCR. The only way for me to plug into this system is to go through this VCR. That causes problems with some copy protection scheme. Apparently this scheme is on all recently built systems. I don't know all the ins and outs of this problem. I do know that the most straightward solution is to only use this DVD player on systems where you can plug directly into the TV or Monitor, no intermediate devices. After being right on the verge of returning the player, I decided to scout around on the 'net and that is how I found out the real issue. So, in conclusion it works fine. It's a little clumsy or maybe I am. Oh! and it isn't really made by Hyundai. It is imported by Hyundai; made by E&S Electronics; and made in China. It is a region 1 DVD player in my case. If I can figure a way around plugging into the VCR, I'll be happy with the unit for my original intent.
