Summary: Nice......when its still working!!!
Review: I thought it was a good DVD player until recently. However it now says NO PLAY for any disks I put it. I'm glad its still under warranty, but I feel bad for those whose warranty has expired. I'd recommend NOT buying this product, unless you can get it for around 100$

Summary: Superb DVD Player: Highly recommended.
Review: I agonized over which low-budget DVD player I was going to purchase as a Christmas gift for several weeks. I was orignially intending on purchasing a Samsung M101, but I held off fearing the reported disc problems and access times. Instead, I purhcased the RV31K and have had no problems. Although I was intimidated by user reports of failures of this unit, it has been used relatively heavily without the slightest problem. The picture quality is superb via the S-Video connection: you have to see it to believe it! The audio quality (although I don't have a surround system) is convincing using VSS and the dialog booster really does work as long as you are listening to a standard 5.1 ch track. Access times are also very good and the remote is not nearly as annoying as I thought it would be. The optical digital output (which I use for dubbing CDs to MDs) is excellent as well.I have no problem recommending this unit to anyone... although I hope it doesn't burn out like others have reported. So far, no problems at all.

Summary: Mine died two weeks after the warranty expired
Review: I liked this fine while it worked. We only gave it light use (maybe once a week), because our DVD collection is still pretty small. It worked fine for a year and two weeks. Then it started freezing. A week later it started telling us that it couldn't play the type of disk we were using (high quality commercial DVDs). I feel especially bad because we gave one just like it to our son this past Christmas. This experience is going to make it very hard for me to buy another Panasonic product.

Summary: The worst choice possible, stay away
Review: I feel sorry for the people who are happy on receiving this player and give it four or five stars. Maybe you should wait till the parts and labor warranty expires instead of misleading other customers. You will soon realize the pain of 'HO2' or 'HO3' error. Amazon.com is only too happy to keep its positive review on this product in spite of being repeatedly informed about its problems. I guess money is more important than customer satisfaction. No wonder the price of this product keeps dropping. Opt for the more reliable Toshiba or Sony brands instead of this junk. I myself am never buying a Panasonic product again.

Summary: H02 Blues: Don't buy Panasonic EVER!
Review: Yes, I too am a Panasonic victim: worked great for 11 months then I got the H02 error code. Labor warranty has expired, and after reading others who got it fixed only to have it break again, I'll buy a different brand. This is the 4th Panasonic product in a row that had defects: my 36" TV has to be adjusted under warranty the first day out of the box, my car CD player's random play doesn't work properly and warranty repair couldn't fix it, my VCR doesn't track the audio properly (also out of warranty after 3 months) and requires a compromise in audio/video tracking to work acceptably, and now the DVD player. I used to be a loyal Panasonic/Technics consumer, but NO MORE! I'm writing a letter of protest to Panasonic.

Summary: You get what you pay for - solid DVD, limited mp3 playback
Review: This is a great little DVD player for the money. It plays DVDs, CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RW disks. The nice features include mid-range dialog boost for the center speaker, loudness, and a great remote offering a wide choice of scanning speed options. I was so glad to have a player in this price range that played my mp3 files I forgot to ask if you could shuffle the songs on an mp3 disk like you could on a regular CD. You can't with this model. Hopefully non-repeating random play will become a standard feature on future models. However, mine has been reliable. While it has some trouble reading through dust and dirt - you have to be careful how you handle your disks - I still feel this was a good buy. If you are a true videophile, spring for a more expensive model. If you are looking for an economy level player offering a variety of playback formats, I can highly recommend the DVD-RK31K.

Summary: DO NOT BUY ANY PANASONIC DVD PLAYER!
Review: My first DVD player was a 110a and it lasted about 1 year. It started having a lot of blocking problems and finally failed all together. I thought that it might be because it was in the early days of DVD and the bugs had not worked out. So, stupidly, I bought another Panasonic DVD player, the RV31. Well it too lasted aboout 1 year. I was watching a DVD with friends and it just froze. I tried tuning it on/off, unplugging but nothing helped. Then I got the dreaded "H03" error code. I just got off the phone with Panasonic customer service and they said try "resetting" it. This consists of simultaneously holding down the REVERSE + PAUSE + OPEN buttons until you see the words INITIALIZE on the screen. Then turn it off and then back on. Well, it didn't do squat. Same H03 message so they said to ship it in for repair. So if you try this and it doesn't work for you either then plan on getting it repaired. Since DVD players are pretty cheap I am not going to bother with the time and expense of an out-of-warranty repair. I'll just clobber it with a hammer until it gives me back my disc. Then I'll go buy a Toshiba, Sony, Phillips, or whatever I read is reliable. Panasonic is NOT.

Summary: Decent For The Price
Review: I received this DVD player as a gift. Is definitely a good price for a good product, however I experienced variations in video colouration (it would fade from dark to light throughout the course of ANY DVD). I am not sure if it was a single defect or a product defect that they all share.

Review: What a piece of junk! Worked for less than 3 months and now gives the 'no disk' error. Panasonic wants [money] to fix it.
NO THANK YOU...there must be a defect in the design since other people have similar problems. Buy something else!
