Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player

Summary: I agree with preceding reviews.
Review: Based much upon the preceding evaluations, and finding that the Toshiba 2109 was the entry-level DVD player recommended by a well-regarded retailer serving this region, I bought a unit, and agree, the 2109's quite good at what it does. DVD-only titles, such as the "Brazil" edition from Criterion, conveniently available from our host, Amazon, increasingly justify such DVD-player purchases for motion picture enthusiasts. A word of caution: if a viewer "zooms" Pandora Peaks, the result is analogous to both car airbags deploying at once, and should be done only when seated at safe viewing distance.

Summary: Nice entry level DVD play, not so good for CD use
Review: Everything works, good quality video output, supports anamophic 16:9 (for this with widescreen displays). My one complaint is that the drive is very noisy. This is not very noticable for video use since most movies make plenty of noise what with music, dialog, sound fx, etc. But the drive noise is much too loud for listening to CDs during quiet passages the drive motor is clearly audible from across the room.

Review: Excellent player for the price. If your TV does not have an"S" video connector or red, yellow, white audio videoconnector slots, only a coaxial cable type connection, just go and pick up a Video RF Modulator, which works fine.

Review: Excellent quality. Most DVD players for this price do not include a DTS decoder. Therefore, unless you get a DVD player like this, you may have problems viewing movies such as the Matrix. Additionally, the remove is not complicated like many other systems are. The only problem that I could see is that you may need additional cables if you have an old TV that does not have separate audio and video inputs. However, I got around this by connecting my DVD player to my VCR. I am getting a A/V receiver (JVC RX-6000VBK) for the surround effect so hopefully it pulls through for me again.

Review: FANTASTIC player! I had so much trouble viewing some DVD's (The Matrix, WWW, etc) on a Zenith DVD player that was the same price as this one. I sold the one I had and immediately purchased the 2109. Great pic & sound, easy to set up, and perty! Doesn't have some of the fancier stuff, like the fiber-op output, but who does? Definately the best buy for the amount of $$$.

Review: Great and easy DVD player to operate. Picture & Sound are perfect.You get 5.1 Dolby sound, zoom levels (great for the annoying wide screen versions)... It doesn't play my CD-Rs (bummer), but then I did not buy it to play CDS.

Summary: just be sure you have 1999 TV
Review: great DVD player, however if you have an "older TV (1992) and do not have original remote and/or button to swap from TV to Audio you are in trouble....it took about 6 hours to get someone at RCA to answer the phone --once that happened they were very helpful. If you have an"older" set without a TV/VIDEO button on the set, try setting TC to channel 00, 90, 91, 92, 93 or 94 -- according to RCA one of them work -- it is better than a new set....once it get plying the pic is terrific.....

Summary: sd-2109 is the right one to buy
Review: I bought one, and it's perfect, much better than the SD-3109 which costs abt $100 more for features like 2 CD drives, and 5.1 audio output, which are not important to me. The only minor caveat is the small buttons on the remote - the play and stop buttons are as tiny as the rest of them - but other than that it's perfect for my needs. took all of 30 secs to setup - didn't have to open the manual once!

Review: I BOUGHT THIS PLAYER AND I THINK IT IS GREAT, I WOULD CERTAINLY RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE. AC-3,DTS(OUTPUTS)GOOD FEATURES, AND GREAT PICTURE AND SOUND QUALITY FOR A GREAT PRICE.
