Summary: For the price, it's quite a bargain
Review: Everything worked fabulous, except could not get the Component connections to work but S-Video and Composite video connections worked. Actually the S-video connection was pretty good. Played my SVCD Matrix Reloaded fabulously, it even has digital audio outputs! Can't complain, I already have 2 of these.

Summary: Great dvd player
Review: I dont know much about dvd players. We bought this one while the price was still up there but definatly worth the money. We have had no problems. We got it to replace the HORRIBLE apex one we had and can not belive that apex sells for higher. Shame.

Summary: JVC XV-S200BK DVD Player
Review: Tested many of my own VCDs, all on various CD-R and CD-RW media - played all of them just fine. Supports VCD titles, not sure about backgrounds. All of my VCDs were mastered in Nero 5.5, encoded with either ATI MMC or TMPEGEnc.

Played NTSC SVCD sample w/CVD subs fine. Menu worked.
Played NTSC SVCD sample w/SVCD subs fine. Second audio track was selectable, but seemed blank?? Maybe I just wasn't listening.

Played PAL SVCD Sample w/CVD subs fine. Menu OK, Both audio tracks OK, couldn't get subs to work. Video was OK.
Couldn't test CVD, XVCD, or XSVCD, as sample file download was down.

Plays MP3 discs fine. Tested down to 64Kbps and up to 320. Browsing discs leaves a lot to be desired however. You kind of have to guess what order the player will put the directories in, then choose that "group" and then the track. In this way it does support sub-directories and sub-sub-directories. VBR MP3s playback as well: the display will show the closest constant bitrate as the file plays.

I'd skip it if you're looking for X(S)VCD playback, as it does seem to be the same as the XV-S300BK and that one doesn't like the high bitrates.

Summary: Great dvd player
Review: The SV-S200 is a great DVD player for an incredible price. Makes a great first or second DVD player in your house. The black styling is, well, stylish, and the player is thinner than many more expensive models. Plays DVDs and DVD-Rs and also many Asian video formats... yes, great for watching those cheap kung-fu movie VCDs from Chinatown. :) Get this. It's so affordable, you have nothing to lose.

Summary: Solid DVD Player
Review: This is a solid DVD player and is a steal at the low price. My only problem is that it won't play burned CD's (that problem is pretty consitent with most DVD players).

My roomate purchased this JVC and I liked it so much I gave one to my dad for his birthday.

Summary: More like a VCD player than a DVD player
Review: This product serves me fine as a VCD player, which is what I was looking for. However, this is an inferior DVD player and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to buy a real DVD player, especially since there are better ones out there for only approx $$$$$ dollars more. The reason I purchased this item was because my Sony PS2 couldn't play VCDs and there were a couple of movies out only on VCD format that I wanted to watch. To be fair, this bargain priced item serves its purpose but I was shocked about how tacky and cheap this player looks. Its performance is almost just as bad, for example, a simple remote controlled command literally takes this unit a full second or two to response. ......
