Summary: Best buy for the money!
Review: I purchased the Sony DVP-S530D last month and have watched over 10 dvd's with no lip-sync problems. I find the quality of the picture amazing and the price perfect for my buget. I appreciate all the reviews I read on the different dvd's that Amazon.com's posted and only settled on this player when the recent problems have been solved. For those who are not sure, call Sony's support line and ask questions, they were very informative. For those who are just considering any type of dvd player, your missing the only way to watch movies! I unfornately have to rebuild my video collection all over again, but I must admit it's worth it. Sony products are the only thing I have in my home and I'm not dissappointed at all.

Summary: My Panasonic A300's quality is alot better but has no DTS...
Review: I purchased this player because it was cheap it has Component video out and DTS, the setup is nice and the video output is good but non-DTS audio is much better on my A300 Panasonic. Playing the DTS version of Saving Private Ryan was simply awesome playing through my Klipsch KSF-10.5 mains, KSW-300 sub, KSF-C5 center and bi-polar Klipsch rears, I really like Digital 5.1, but DTS is definitely better! The build quality isn't what I expected and Sony's move to a single laser worried me, we'll see how this machine fares in the month's to come.

Summary: Super Buy from Sony!
Review: I resarched players far and wide. Spent a month reading reviews on and off the internet as well as "test driving" several of my friends dvd players, so you can believe me when I tell you this is absolutely the best player for the money! The picture on it is smooth, sharp, and stunning. The sound thru my digital ready receiver is absolutely earth-shattering. I have had no problems playing back any discs(both new and rental). My biggest concern before purchasing a Sony dvd player was all of the lip-synch chatter. I found that to be no problem at all. No lip synch problems,period. Before you buy any DVD player , may I suggest going to Epinons.com and Audioreview.com. I found these sights to be indespensable, along with amazon.com. I f you decide on this one, you will not be disappointed!

Summary: I wouldn't wish this player on the devil himself
Review: I am now on my second Sony S530 DVD player within one year. The first functioned fine (with the exception of the occasional lip sync problem) for the first 9 months. Then suddenly, it wouldn't power on at all! I sent it in to be fixed, and the tech told me that the integrated circuit board on this model heats up too fast, thus causing the unit to shut down. My local retailer then swapped out a new unit for me, which worked fine for just under 90 days. Then wouldn't you know it, the same problem happened with the replacement unit as well! Normally the same problem hapenning to the same person twice points to customer abuse, but I pamper all of my equipment and treat it better then anyone I know. Also, I highly doubt that the problems were due to surge problems, as my equipment is plugged into the new reference Monster Power HTS5000. I just can't believe how horrible this machine is. I have an ES reciever, a Wega tv, a Sony portable & component minidisc player, and a Sony CD player as well. All have worked beautifully and have never had a single problem. I expected a lot more from their dvd players and got lemons instead. If my second player is replaced as well, I'm not even going to bother opening it up at all. I'm going to sell it new and put my money towards a Toshiba instead.

Summary: My Sony 530 broke.
Review: I had previously written a positive review of the Sony 530 on 12/9/1999. Well, my player broke last week. It would power up, but nothing would respond. It would just sit there like a lump, and then turn off after 30 seconds. During this 30 seconds, I could not turn it off, open the disc drawer, NOTHING. I returned the 530 to the local boutique store where I shop, and they let me pay the additional $200 to upgrade to the Sony 650, 5-disc changer. Why did I stick with Sony? I own a lot of their products, have had good luck, and honestly don't think anyone else's DVD players can match Sony's. So, this is a great player, let's just hope they are reliable.

Summary: Great DVD Player
Review: After reading several Amazon reviews, and distinguishing between a DVD player with DTS decoding and one without, I purchased the Sony DVP-S530. Installation to my Sony Trinitron TV was extremely easy although I can't see it being difficult on any TV. Picture quality and sound are second to none and I have not experienced any of the problems that some have mentioned. To date I have seen over 15 DVDs and have never encountered the lip synch problem nor the color spots in the black area. I highly recommend this player, especially if you don't have an Amplifier/Stereo with a decoder. On a side note, I've played audio CDs through this player and my TV speakers and it too sounds very good.

Summary: Great DVD player - One caution, though, on DTS
Review: This is an excellent machine, and gives superb value for the price. One note of caution, though: if you want to play DTS Audio, you *must* have a receiver with a built-in DTS decoder. The technical data here is a little fuzzy on this issue, and I misinterpreted it. The 530D can *play* DTS audio. It can also play *and* decode Dolby Digital audio. But it can't *decode* DTS audio.BTW, no lip-sync problems for me.

Summary: works great so far
Review: I went and bought this DVD player from the local electronics store after reading extensively about the problems and technical details of all of the lower priced players on the market. I am not regreting the purchase. The S530D has worked perfectly for the four months I have had it, and that includes no lip-sync difficulties. It even plays the oft troublesome 'Matrix' DVD without a hitch. I don't have a sound system to test that side of it's capabilities, but from the mountain of options listed in the operating manual it would appear to be just as good there.

Review: What can I say that has not allready been said. The DVP-S530D is a great player. That is why I bought it in the first place. I would have given the player 5 stars if not for having to send it in because of the lip-sync problem. But hey, I got it back 5 days after I sent it in and it works great. I am glad I bought this DVD player and would recomend it to anyone looking for a player in this price range. By the way, it looks great with my WEGA tv. Buy it, watch it, if you get the lip-sync send it in on Monday....watch movies of Friday. Don't let the hype get ya.

Summary: Sony DVDs can't play "burned" Audio CDs
Review: I bought a Sony DVD player. It played DVDs OK, but it couldn't play audio CD's I created from my PC. I returned this machine and I bought a Pioneer DVD player instead. These CDs play fine on this machine. In fact, these CDs work on my car CD players, my computer CD players, and my 10-year old Yamaha CD player. I was surprised that a new Sony DVD machine can't handle this, since all of these other machines could. Maybe future versions will correct this oversight.
