Summary: Great service from Toshiba
Review: I received this DVD player yesterday 11/30/99 and my son tried to install it. He is not a genius at electronics. We called the Toshiba service 1-800 support line and were patiently assisted with the installation. This was extremely helpful to us. This is easy to install but if you aren't an electronic wiz, this is a very good asset. The DVD player itself seems flawless to us at this point. I would recommend it highly.

Summary: Great Bang for the Buck
Review: This player is hands down the best value in it's class. The SD-3109 offers more features than any other in it's price range. The most usefull feature is the dual tray...you can watch two movies back to back without getting up, or use it like I do and keep your most used Audio CD in the lower tray so it's always available. I had purchased a Yamaha RV-902 (digital ready) over a year ago, and I was waiting for the right DVD player to purchase...this one was it. The 5.1 audio blows me away every time I play a DVD. You will want to see every movie you have seen on VHS just to hear the difference. The video is crystal clear with no jitters or flutters. The remote is lack luster, but it does the job. This player is highly recommended.

Summary: Great Value At A Great Cost
Review: This was my first DVD player, so I was excited about recieving it. I did a lot of comparison shopping and decided on the 3109 for it's full features. I have a digital ready A/V receiver,so this unit had what I needed, a digital decoder. Once I hooked up the unit to my theatre I was blown away by the picture quality and the sound was extremely impressive. I have to agree with a lot of comments about the remote. It is adequate at best, but if you buy electronics for the remote, buy a theatre remote that will do it all. Thanks to this DVD player my family walks by the video tape isle without stopping and goes right to the DVD selections. You can't ask more for the dollor value in a DVD player.

Summary: Outstanding
Review: Very high points to the graphical menu driven user interface. With a grey background, upper/lower case, clear on-screen prompts, and icons, it is attractive and very easy to use. The remote is a work of art.

I rented the Matrix, and even with a big greasy fingerprint on it, it played flawlessly.

The Extended Contrast option is a must, to get really dense blacks. And the Dolby compression option is also welcomed, to reduce the dynamic range, so you are not straining your ears at one moment, and having them blown off the next. Granted, I am running it 2CH.

Two trays? Not sure if I will ever really care. 3DO? Can't say that I could tell the difference.

Overall, a class act. After one day, highly recommended.

Summary: Great player all around - video/audio/remote
Review: The 2-disc feature is great! You can just leave Barney in one all the time! I haven't run into a movie that needs two discs yet.

The Dolby Pro Logic was pretty good. I just hooked up a Dolby Digital receiver a couple of days ago, but I haven't had time to set up it properly. There is noticeably better separation and more info on the rear channels.

No complaints - looks good, works good, great price...

Summary: Impressive package of features and value.
Review: I have had this player for about a week now, so I cannot speak to the long term quality. What I can say is that so far I am quite impressed. The sound blew me away, and using the S-video provides for an excellent image.

I am a complete idiot when in comes to setting things up, and the fact that I was up and running in about 10 minutes speaks volumes. I will post a followup if I experience any problems, but so far so good.

Summary: Well, it's o.k. ... if you don't ask too much of it...
Review: I have had this player for close to 3 months now. It has performed well until now. With the release of Disney DVD's, I have begun to notice some flaws. First off... Hercules (I've exchanged 3 times) freezes in the middle of "Zero To Hero" (Chapter 17). Next off, Mulan... at least it plays all the way through except for the sound fading away in some sequences. I guess if someone asked my opinion, I would say, "better get an extended service contract and keep your Disney on VHS". As an after thought I would mention that the Hecules DVD ran fine on my PC-DVD drive.

Summary: A great player!
Review: Judging from a few of the reviews on this site, I was wonderingif I had made the right decision in buying it, after a week of proudownership I can safely say only the impatient would find mentionable faults with this player. The Dual disk capability is, once used,...... considered essential, there is nothing like it in the price range. The video quality is solid even with composite out. I haven't sampled the audio potential of DTS but the N-2-2 stereo surround was very good. When I recieved the box I thought it was empty, this player is that light! As for problems playing popular DVD's....what are those other guys talking about? Matrix plays flawlessly, and being able to pause, slow forward and reverse at increments of up to 32x is amazing. If you can't figure this remote out in 4 minutes ...

As for glitches, during a slow reverse attempt I did have the "Casino" DVD freeze up on me, the only recourse was to restart, but I was being rather impatient with the pressing of the buttons at the time, and the glitch hasn't happened since. The remote is big, but the button's are relatively well placed, prior to purchasing the SD3109 I connected my computer DVD player (Creative labs Encore 5x) to the TV, let me tell you it is pleasing to be able to stop, pause, slow and scan without having to get up and hit the keyboard.

All in all very recommended.

Summary: Great cheap player
Review: The man below with the pops between each track does not have a problem with his DVD player, the reciever does this when switching audio sources. Mine pops too, but this is only between music tracks. The sound plays flawlessly when listening to a movie or a cd, and the movies contain none of the popping noises. It is not the DVD player! The 3109 works well. Sir, if you want a cd player, then dont buy a dvd. Buy dvd for the video with the cd audio as an extra. The 3109 works very well, and some people write comments that have nothing to do with the dvd player, but the software/other hardware.

Summary: Instant entertainment
Review: I have been looking into DVD players for about a year now. I am a college student with a pretty limited budget and I wanted to make a good decision. I firmly believe that there is no better dvd player value than the SD-3109. The features are excellent, it is very easy to hook up, and it plays the Matrix (despite the warnings by some web sites). I have had absolutely no problems with the remote or the scan features. I highly recommend this player to anyone!
