Summary: Quality! Quality!
Review: I purchased this player, and I've been very happy with it. My DVDs play perfectly on this player unlike my Sony 550, which has lip sync problems. The video output is simply gorgeous, and the expanded black levels provides for deeper color saturation. Plus, it has two DVD trays for those extra long weekend DVD sittings. Audio performance is also quite excellent, not to mention its HDCD capability which allows it to rival audiophile CD players.

Summary: EXCELLENT, WELL WORTH THE MONEY
Review: Having this same exact dual tray DVD player now for about 2 months, it's the greatest. No more rewinding tapes, get widescreen when you want it or when you don't, different viewing angles(zoom), almost crystal clear picutre reception(haivg a brand new 36" Toshiba T.V. helps), it unbelievable the convience this DVD player offers. Better sound, graphics, features, color, basically everything is better than a VCR. And the dual tray also helps if you're watching a double disc feature you don't have to get up and change disc, load em up at the same time.

Summary: Great but slight Sound synch delay
Review: Great picture and great sound. However the two do not always seem to be in synch. Does anyone else have this problem. It's not extreme but if you watch the lips of the characters closely they never quite correlate with the sound. Existing CDs sound great on this player, and the second tray is very useful for this. Fast scanning could be better it just shows freeze frames spaced out in equal time intervals. On the whole, for the money this is an excellent product.

Summary: ONE FEATURE MISSING FROM THE SD-3109
Review: THIS WAS MY FIRST DVD PLAYER, BESIDES THE ONE IN MY COMPUTER.I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR OVER A YEAR AND TIME AND TIME AGAIN MY SEARCH HAS LEAD ME RIGHT BACK TO THE TOSHIBA SD-3109. NOW THAT I OWN ONE I CAN CLEARLY SEE WHAT ALL THE HIPE WAS ABOUT.THE PICTURE QUALITY IS FLAWLESS, IN EVERY MODE:SLOW,FF,FRW,ZOOM,STILL,FRAME-BY-FRAME.THE MENUS ARE EASY TO FOLLOW TO THE POINT THAT YOU NEED NOT HAVE TO OPEN THE MANUAL, I HAVEN'T YET. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED THE SD-3109 HAS ONE FLAW. I RECENTLY TRIED TO PLAY A FINALIZED CDR IN MACHINE, NO DICE, WON'T PLAY. I WOULD ENJOY HEARING ANY FEEDBACK FROM ANYONE THAT NOTICED THIS SMALL, BUT IMPORTANT FEATURE.

Summary: A GREAT ENTRY-LEVEL DVD PLAYER
Review: I just got my player yesterday. I loaded The Matrix and The Mummy and it worked perfectly! I had ordered another player before this and it couldn't even read the DVD's! Everything you'd want in a low-priced player is here. I have a DTS amp and the sound is INCREDIBLE! This is how movies should be seen in the home. Of course, having a rather large TV doesn't hurt either. The only lame thing is the remote, but since all I'll probably do is hit play and sit back, my receiver's all-in-one will do just fine.

Summary: Best Value of It's DVD Player Peers
Review: Except having an DVD player on my computer, I was new to DVD players. I purchased one over Christmas after doing a thorough consumer comparison on opinions and features of a wide range of players. I finally narrowed it down between the 3109 and the Sony equivalent. I was concerned about the lipsync problems some users reported with the Sony and even if you could get a firmware upgrade, who wants all that trouble!

Even if they Sony hadn't had that problem, I would have gotten the Toshiba anyway. What really sold me on the Toshiba was the dual disc capability, and the Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound outputs. It also not only has zoom features, but it the movie contains different angled shots, you can change viewing angles!

All other products that I viewed of similar quality/features were well over $400-500.

Summary: excellent product (poor quality control from toshiba)
Review: I bought the sd3109 about a month and a half ago and its an excellent dvd player. The sound is awesome and the picture quality is preety good. This dvd player has a lot of cool extra features too and that is the reason i bought it the only problem i had was that when i bought it the next day i had to go to the store to exchange it for a new one because the player wouldnt play anything and it would say disk error. either its really fragile or toshiba has bad quality control but since i changed it it has played every dvd and cd without skipping or taking too long to load up. I recomend buying this player from a department store and buy it one of those 4 year warranties just in case something happened to it after the toshiba warranty period ends About the remote controll its not really that bad i mean is it really that hard to open a lid to press the zoom or the other keys in it. and if you dont like it then buy a universal remote controll. the only problem i see in this dvd player is either bad quality control or that it is really fragile

(if something happens to the dvd player again i will post another message and tell you all not to buy it but till then i think that this is an excellent player)

Summary: An Amazing DVD/VCD/CD Player For The Price
Review: I've searched high and low, every site on the net that I couldfind, trying to get the most bang for the buck, with all of thefeatures that I wanted of course. All of my research led to this beautiful piece of electronics, the Toshiba SD-3109. This player has great picture quality w/ the 3 optional hook-ups (component being the best), and perfect dolby digital sound, with decoder built in (optical out being the best way to take advantage of it). The hardware has been absolutely flawless, after 2 months of use so far. It is very easy to use and control too! It plays VCD's and CD's wonderfully, and is the only DVD player under $2000, at the time of this review, to play HDCD's. Now ask yourself, what more could you ask for in a DVD payer.

Summary: Toshiba 4109X
Review: Amazon don't sell the 4109X, but it has technical specs the same as the SD3109, just with a 6 disc carousel, which I find great as it allows me to load both CDs and DVDs, saving me the money (and space) needed for a separate CD deck.

I have played all kinds of DVDs and CDs through this system and have found no problems whatsoever, so perhaps problems others find are related to their system. I have my player hooked up to a Harman Kardon AVR 45 and Toshiba TV

Make sure you buy a Digital cable though so you can get the best audio performance

Summary: Toshiba Lacks (Surprisingly) in DVD Field
Review: I have gone through both the SD-3109 and the 4109X and both were a complete disappointment. Both the 4109X's that I tested along with the SD-3109 were inconsistant in play. Problems included excessive loadup times, scrambled pictures/interface, locking up and in some cases never being able to play questionable condition DVD's. The same questionable DVD's played just fine on all Sony DVD players I tested with no problems and no delays at all.

Other annoyances included noisy tray eject mechanism and excessively slow and noisy carousel motor.

I opted for Toshiba in the first place because I have had great experiences with their TV's and VCR's. However, their DVD line leaves much to be desired.
